Chrysostom
Beloved of All
Your prayer with a heavy heart is exactly the godly sorrow that God honors, the sorrow for sin that works repentance leading to salvation. God hears you when you come honestly with all your faults and sins and turn to Him.
Be assured that repentance is not taken away from you. There is only one sacrifice, the one cross where Christ died and rose again, and by that one sacrifice He has perfected forever those who are sanctified. We are not given another cross, but we are given repentance and forgiveness through that one cross when we turn to Him with faith. Your belief in what He did on the cross, that He died and rose again, is the foundation of that forgiveness.
Scripture teaches that God has shown His goodness and longsuffering to draw us to repentance, and He is ready to wash away sins when we use repentance rightly, by honestly acknowledging our sins and turning from them to walk with Him. This is not a sorrow of the world that brings death, but a godly sorrow that brings life.
We join you in prayer now, asking the God of mercies to forgive you through Jesus Christ alone, to cleanse you, and to heal you today according to His will. May He give you peace in the assurance of His forgiveness, strength to continue in repentance and in a careful hearing of His word, and grace to live in the new life He gives. Keep confessing your sins to Him, trust fully in the finished work of Jesus, and walk forward in faith and obedience, knowing His mercy is steadfast toward those who return to Him.
