Renewed strength

You speak of renewed strength, but know this: true renewal comes not by seeking some new offering or fresh start apart from what Christ has already accomplished. The one sacrifice of Christ was offered once for all, and it is sufficient to cleanse the conscience from dead works. Those old covenant sacrifices were repeated daily because they had no power to remove sin; they were but an arraignment of weakness. But Christ, once offered, is the medicine that heals entirely. You need not be healed again as if His work were defective; what you need is to draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having your heart sprinkled from an evil conscience.

The renewal you long for, strength and resilience, is the work of the Spirit in the spirit of your mind. It is not a return to some former brightness that you may imagine you once had, for that was all of grace. But the Spirit can make you new in your inner being, so that the same person who has grown old through abuse and trauma is transformed in the accidental qualities of the soul. Do not enfeeble yourself by nursing your wounds as a luxury; true strength comes not from ease but from breaking off the flabbiness of despair and self-pity. As Sarah received strength to conceive by faith when she was past age, so you, though worn out by suffering, may receive power for endurance through faith.

When you feel most weak and full of shame, remember that woman who cried out, “Help me.” She did not rely on her own confidence or strength but thrust forward her very shamelessness for entreaty. So you, even in the weakness brought by abuse, may approach the throne of grace. The enemy’s assaults have no strength as though they could injure you eternally, for Christ’s sacrifice has overcome the world. Yet do not indifferently partake of His table if you are clinging to the old leaven of bitterness; let the sprinkling of His blood cleanse you afresh by repentance.

Let not the ongoing struggle convince you that you need a new crucifixion of Christ, that would be to put Him to open shame. Rather, let the one offering settle your conscience: it is an exhibition of strength, not of weakness. Endure, for the air of cheerfulness in the soul, born of faith, will make your countenance shine again. Rely not on your own resilience, but on the grace that is sufficient for you. For His strength is perfected in your weakness.

It takes real courage to ask for strength when the wounds of abuse and trauma keep pressing in. The very fact you are reaching out tells me God is already stirring resilience within you. That request itself is a seed of hope.

Many people assume strength means pretending you are not hurting or mustering enough inner toughness to push through. But the truth is far deeper. The secret of lasting strength has always been separation, lives set apart to trust in the Lord rather than in themselves. When David faced overwhelming battles in his youth, he did not lean on his own skill. He went in the strength of the Lord his God. Decades later, as an old man, he still cried out, "Forsake me not when my strength fails." He had learned that self-reliance crumbles, but God never lets us down.

Your own reserves may feel depleted right now, and that is nothing to be ashamed of. God does not ask you to summon strength from within yourself. His promise is different: He gives strength to His people. He blesses His people with peace. The man or woman whose strength is in the Lord turns the dry, sorrowful valleys into places of refreshment. They go from strength to strength, not because the pain disappears overnight, but because they have a fountain of life that does not run dry.

When thoughts of the past try to overwhelm you, let your heart take hold of God’s Word. David constantly went back to what God had spoken, drawing strength from those promises. That is why prayer and Scripture are such fortresses for a child of God. In prayer, you are brought into a place of victory and confidence, not in yourself, but in the One who holds you. The Lord is your light and your salvation; you do not need to be afraid. He is a strong tower. He is your shield.

Sometimes the greatest test of strength is not striking back, not giving in to the urge for revenge or bitterness. That kind of restraint is not passivity; it is the power of God holding your wrist, steadying your hand. His strength is made perfect in your weakness. So you can honestly say, "Lord, I have nothing left," and He answers, "Good. Now you are ready for My strength to carry you."

Keep bringing every burden to Him. He who lifted you up before will not let your foes rejoice over you. May you walk in a renewed consciousness of His love and goodness. May He strengthen you for each day, until that glorious day when Jesus makes all things right and every tear is wiped away.

We are so grateful you shared your heart with us and allowed us to lift you up in prayer for renewed strength and resilience as you continue to walk through the pain of past abuse and trauma. It is a sacred privilege to stand in agreement with you before the Lord, asking Him to fill you with His peace, healing, and unshakable hope in Christ.

If God has answered this prayer in ways you can see—whether through moments of unexpected peace, fresh courage, or His gentle presence carrying you—we would love to rejoice with you. Please share a praise report so we can give Him all the glory together.

If the weight still feels heavy and the journey long, we want you to know we are still here. Please post this request again, and we will continue to pray faithfully, trusting that our Father hears and holds you close. He is near to the brokenhearted, and His strength is made perfect in our weakness.

May you feel His love surrounding you, His grace sustaining you, and His Spirit empowering you with every step forward. We pray this in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
