Beloved of All
Asking for prayers that God would show me and my fiancé His will for out relationship. We're both hurt and confused, not knowing whether we should continue this relationship or part ways. I'm really tired and torn and suffering from menfal health issues and struggling also in other areas of my life. Please God, show us what we should do and give us peace knowing we made the right decision.

We hear your heart in this request and we are lifting you and your fiance up together before the Lord in this season of hurt, confusion, and weariness. It is painful to feel torn about the future of a relationship that was intended to lead to marriage, especially when you are also suffering with mental health struggles and difficulties in other areas of life. Please know we are praying for you both with compassion and we thank you for asking us to seek God's will with you.

We believe God does want to show you His will and give you His peace, and He invites us to ask Him for wisdom when we feel we lack it. James 1:5 says But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him. Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. And Philippians 4:6-7 reminds us In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. That peace is not just a feeling that you made a good choice, but the guarding presence of God Himself when you surrender your decision to Him.

As you seek God's will for your relationship, we want to encourage you biblically. Engagement is a courtship with the goal of marriage, and marriage as God designed it is a lifelong covenant commitment between a man and a woman that is held in honor. Hebrews 13:4 says Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled. If you are engaged, we encourage you to pursue purity and to abstain from sexual intimacy until marriage, for this is the will of God, that you should be holy, that you should abstain from sexual immorality, that each one of you should know how to possess himself of his own vessel in sanctification and honor, 1 Thessalonians 4:3-4. If there has been fornication, we lovingly urge you to repent and to set clear boundaries going forward that honor God. We also urge you to examine whether you are both truly believers in Jesus Christ, for 2 Corinthians 6:14 says Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers. A marriage that honors God must be between two people who are both submitted to Christ, and that foundation affects every other decision. We encourage you to seek wise, godly counsel together from a pastor or mature Christian couple who can speak truth to you both, not just when you are exhausted and hurting but with clear biblical perspective.

We also want to gently address your mention of being tired and suffering from mental health issues. The Lord sees your weariness and your suffering. Psalm 34:18 says Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Jesus Himself says Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest, Matthew 11:28. We encourage you to cast all your worries on him, because he cares for you, 1 Peter 5:7, and to continue to seek help both spiritually and practically, including pastoral care and, if needed, professional counseling or medical support. Mental health struggles do not mean you are forgotten by God, and making a major decision about marriage while you are exhausted and torn can be very difficult, so we pray God gives you rest, clarity, and support around you as you wait on Him.

We noticed your request asked God to show you what to do but did not mention the name of Jesus Christ. We want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and it is only through His name that we are saved. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. We encourage you to come to God in the name of Jesus, trusting in His death and resurrection for the forgiveness of your sins, and to place your relationship and your future fully in His hands.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son and we lift up this dear one and their fiance to You. Lord, You see their hurt and confusion, their tiredness and their mental health battles, and the struggles in other areas of life. We ask that You pour out Your wisdom upon them liberally, make their paths straight as they trust in You, and guard their hearts and thoughts with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Show them clearly Your will for this courtship, whether to continue toward a marriage that honors You or to part ways in a way that honors You. If it is Your will for them to marry, we pray You would strengthen their faith, help them to remain pure, to be equally yoked, and to build a Christ centered marriage that lasts for life. If it is not Your will, give them courage and grace to step apart with forgiveness and without bitterness. Heal what is broken, bring rest to the weary, and draw near to the brokenhearted. Help them to seek You first above all else, and to trust that You work all things together for good for those who love You. Lead them to godly counsel and surround them with support. We ask all of this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and our peace, amen.

Thank you for reaching out and sharing where you are. We hear how tired and torn you feel carrying hurt, confusion, and questions about your future together, while also struggling with your mental health and other pressures. It makes sense that discerning next steps feels so heavy right now.

We are praying for you both to have wisdom and a calm, settled peace as you seek God's will, not just about the relationship but for each of you personally. When we are hurting and exhausted, it is hard to think clearly, so giving yourselves some unhurried space to pray, listen, and talk honestly can be important, rather than feeling you must solve everything at once.

One step that often helps in a season like this is to not carry it alone. If you have a trusted pastor or Christian counselor, consider inviting them to walk with you as you both seek direction, and to support you individually as well. And since you mentioned mental health struggles, we gently encourage you to reach out to a qualified care provider for support alongside prayer, so you have steady care for your overall health.

Father, we lift this couple to You. You see their hurt and confusion and weariness. Give them wisdom to discern Your will, strength for each day, healing and steady support for mental health, and Your peace as they trust You with what is next. Lead them gently and make Your way clear. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your cry in this season of hurt and confusion has been heard, and there is a word of comfort for those who are perplexed and carried away captive. The Lord knows you are tired and torn, and He sees also the burden of mental heaviness and the other trials that press upon you. Remember that the infinite God has thoughts of peace toward you, not of evil, to give you an expected end, and His Word will stand when all other voices fail.

As surely as God's will is the axle of the universe, so in grace we may rest assured that He is King, having mercy on whom He will have mercy, and working all things according to His wise and holy purpose. Nothing happens but what He permits or ordains, and all things have an appointed place in His plan. It is foolish for us to say we will go and we will do and we will gain, as if we could both propose and dispose without asking God's consent. Rather, we are taught to feel in our hearts, if the Lord wills, we shall do this or that. Knowing this is meant to bring rest, not fear, for His will is not against His people but for their good.

There is a revealed will which we must not violate, even while many of His purposes in the future remain hidden from us. Peace is not found by trying to pry open what God has not yet shown, but by loving His law and staying the mind upon Him. Great peace have they which love thy law, and the promise is, Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee, because he trusteth in thee. The blood of Jesus whispers peace within when conscience is enlightened, and to do the will of Jesus is rest even when duties throng and sorrows surge around.

In seeking His will for your relationship, bring your will to delight in God's will, for then the fangs of sorrow are extracted. The work of the Spirit, which is the effect of the will of God, is to change the human will and make men willing in the day of His power, working in them to will and to do of His good pleasure. Pray therefore not only to know what to do, but to be made willing to do what He shows you, whether that be to go forward together in holiness or to part in holiness.

Consider His revealed will as your lamp. Marriage in Scripture is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and the gift of intimate union belongs within that covenant alone. Any path forward must honor that holiness, with purity, truthfulness and integrity before God. If you are to continue toward marriage, let it be in the Lord, with a shared faith in Jesus Christ alone for salvation, with a commitment to keep His law because you love Him, and with counsel from godly and wise believers who know you both. If you are living together outside of that covenant, the way of peace will include turning from that to what is obedient and upright, for if we have taken our own way peace will not visit the heart, but if we keep to the way of strict integrity there is an angel of peace within to strengthen us in sorrow.

Do not make so weighty a decision only in the moment of exhaustion. In your weariness, come to Christ who says, Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Seek help for the heaviness you carry, through prayer, through the Word, through the fellowship of the church, and through wise and caring counsel for your mental health, for the Lord often brings healing through means He has provided. Bear your sorrow with Him and you will find that perfect peace which can dwell even with loved ones far away and with the future still unseen, because in Jesus keeping we are safe.

We will pray for you both, that the Lord would show you His will and make you willing to follow it, that He would grant you a mind stayed upon Christ, that He would heal and strengthen you in body and mind, and that He would give you not the false peace of getting your own way, but the great peace that comes from loving His law and trusting His mercy in Christ. May He lead you into all that promotes His glory and your true good, and may you know that whether He betroths you to one another before Him or leads you apart, His thoughts toward those who trust Him remain thoughts of peace.
