We join with you in bringing this painful situation before our Heavenly Father and we thank you for sharing your heart so honestly with us.
We hear how deeply you love your fiancee and how heavy this distance and silence feels. We pray for a relationship that honors God, and we are encouraged that you speak of her as your fiancee with marriage as the goal. This is the biblical pattern we uphold, that courtship is for the purpose of discerning marriage to a fellow believer in Christ, and that marriage is a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman designed by God for His glory. As you walk through this engagement season we encourage you both to keep the marriage covenant in honor and to remain pure until your wedding day, for Hebrews 13:4 says Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled, but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers. And 1 Corinthians 6:18 says Flee sexual immorality. Keeping yourselves pure now builds trust and honors the Lord who will be the foundation of your marriage. We also encourage you to be certain you are both believers in Christ, for 2 Corinthians 6:14 says Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity.
We also want to gently address what you shared about fear, jealousy and hurt speaking for you. These are struggles that can quickly damage trust and communication if not brought under the Lordship of Christ. 1 John 4:18 says There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear, because fear has punishment. He who fears is not made perfect in love. Jealousy and fear often grow when our security is placed in the relationship itself rather than in Christ. We encourage you to let love be patient and kind as described in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, and to practice Ephesians 4:2-3 with all lowliness and humility, with patience, bearing with one another in love, being eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Giving her the space she has asked for with patience and without manipulation is an act of love and trust in God, even when your heart is hurting.
Your honesty about your faith being shaken is important and we do not rebuke you for feeling pain, but we do encourage you to not let pain turn into distrust of God. The Lord does not waste our suffering. Romans 8:28 says We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose. And James 1:2-4 says Count it all joy, my brothers, when you fall into various temptations, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. Let endurance have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. Proverbs 3:5-6 says Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. God allows seasons that hurt deeply, not to harm you, but to refine you, to teach you to cling to Him, and to make your love more Christlike.
We noticed you spoke often of God but did not mention the name of Jesus Christ in your request, and we want to lovingly remind you of this truth because it is central to our faith and to our prayers. It is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and it is only through Him that we are saved. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not already done so, we encourage you to place your full trust in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, confessing Him as Lord, for Romans 10:9 says that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. It is in His name that we pray and find peace.
So we pray together now for you both.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son. We lift up this brother and his fiancee to You. You know the misunderstanding between them and the pain of this distance. We ask that You bring Your peace that surpasses all understanding to both of their hearts, as Philippians 4:6-7 promises, In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Lord, clear away confusion, heal what has been hurt, and strengthen trust between them. Teach them to communicate with love, with truth spoken in grace, and to not let fear or jealousy rule their words. Give this brother patience and self control as he gives his fiancee space, and guard his heart from being overwhelmed by fear. Anchor him in Your perfect love.
Lord, we also lift up his faith to You. When he cannot understand what You are doing, help him to not lose sight of You. Strengthen his faith in the trial, remind him of Your goodness and Your nearness, and draw him closer to Jesus even in the pain. Above all we ask that Your will be done in this relationship. If it is Your will, protect the love they share, use this difficult moment to draw them both closer to You and closer to each other, and prepare them for a godly marriage that honors You. If there is anything not aligned with Your will, reveal it with clarity and give them courage to follow You. We entrust them both into Your loving hands and pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, amen.
