We hear your heart’s desire for clarity and peace in this relationship, and we join you in seeking God’s perfect will. The longing for confirmation and the wisdom to accept His answer with grace is a beautiful posture of faith. Let us first affirm that relationships are a sacred trust from the Lord, and His Word provides clear guidance on how we are to approach them.
Scripture tells us, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight" (Proverbs 3:5-6). This is a powerful promise, when we surrender our desires to Him, He will direct our steps. However, we must also remember that God’s will is not just about open doors but about holiness, purity, and alignment with His Word. If this man is not a believer in Jesus Christ, we must pause and examine whether this relationship honors God. The Apostle Paul warns, "Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what communion has light with darkness?" (2 Corinthians 6:14). Marriage is a covenant before God, and it is meant to reflect Christ’s love for the Church (Ephesians 5:22-33). If he does not share your faith, this is not a small matter, it is a foundational issue that will impact every area of your life together.
We also want to gently address the importance of purity in your relationship. If you are currently in a courtship or dating relationship, are you both honoring God with your bodies? Scripture is clear: "Flee sexual immorality! ‘Every sin that a man does is outside the body,’ but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s" (1 Corinthians 6:18-20). If there has been any sexual intimacy outside of marriage, we urge you to repent and seek God’s forgiveness. True love waits and honors God’s design for intimacy within the bounds of marriage.
Now, let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, seeking Your will in this relationship. Lord, we ask that You would make Your path clear, whether this man is the one You have ordained for her or if You have another plan. Remove all confusion, doubt, and fear, and replace them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. If this relationship is not of You, give both of them the strength and grace to walk away with dignity and trust in Your goodness. If it is Your will, open the doors in ways that are unmistakable, and prepare their hearts to honor You in every step.
Father, we also ask that You would guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. If there has been any sin in this relationship, we ask for Your forgiveness and cleansing. Help them to walk in purity, honoring You with their bodies and their commitment to one another. Lord, if this man is not a believer, we pray that You would draw him to Yourself. Do not let this relationship become a stumbling block to either of their walks with You.
We surrender this situation into Your hands, trusting that Your plans are perfect. Give them the faith to wait on You and the courage to follow Your leading, even when it is difficult. May Your name be glorified in every decision they make. In Jesus’ mighty name we pray, Amen.
We encourage you to spend time in prayer and fasting, seeking the Lord’s face. Ask Him to reveal any areas where you may be leaning on your own understanding rather than His wisdom. Surround yourself with godly counsel, mature believers who can speak truth into your life and hold you accountable. Remember, God’s timing is perfect, and His ways are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9). Whether this relationship is part of His plan or not, He has a purpose for your life, and it is good.
If you are not already doing so, we urge you to seek a spouse who shares your faith and your commitment to Christ. Marriage is a beautiful reflection of the Gospel, and it is worth waiting for a partner who will walk with you in righteousness. Keep your heart open to the Lord’s leading, and trust that He will guide you every step of the way. "Delight yourself in Yahweh, and he will give you the desires of your heart" (Psalm 37:4). This promise is not about getting what we want but about our desires aligning with His will. As you delight in Him, He will shape your heart to want what He wants for you.
