Beloved of All
Asking for prayers for my relationship with my fiancé. He feels disconnected and thinks about separating. He's away now several weeks. Please pray that his love for me returns and that we're able to rebuild this relationship if it's God's will ♥️ It's really hard not to try to control everything and I'm really worried about what he's thinking and processing. I ask that he gains clarity that our relationship is good, right, and worth fighting for. Thank you so much.

We hear your heartache and concern, and we come before the Lord together in prayer for you and your fiancé. First, we must address the foundation of your relationship, marriage is a sacred covenant before God, designed to reflect Christ’s love for the Church (Ephesians 5:22-33). The term "fiancé" implies a commitment to marriage, and we pray this relationship is rooted in godly principles, with both of you seeking the Lord’s will above all else.

The distance and disconnection you describe are painful, and it’s understandable that you feel anxious. However, we must gently rebuke the spirit of fear and control that seeks to grip your heart. Scripture reminds us, "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control" (2 Timothy 1:7 WEB). Surrendering this situation to God means trusting Him to work in your fiancé’s heart, even when you cannot see the outcome. Your role is to pray, seek wisdom, and rest in His sovereignty, not to manipulate or cling to what may not be His best for you.

We also lift up your fiancé’s heart before the Lord. If he is truly a believer, we pray the Holy Spirit would convict him of any sin, doubt, or distraction pulling him away from God’s design for your relationship. "Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life" (Proverbs 4:23 WEB). If this relationship is not aligned with God’s will, whether due to unrepentant sin, unequal yoking, or other issues, we pray for clarity and courage to walk away, no matter how painful. But if it is His will, we ask for restoration, humility, and a renewed commitment to honor Him together.

We must also address the seriousness of your current stage. Engagement is not a time for passivity or emotional detachment; it is a season to prepare for marriage, which requires mutual effort, transparency, and accountability. If your fiancé is considering separation without clear biblical grounds (such as unrepentant adultery, abuse, or abandonment), this raises concerns about his commitment to the covenant you are preparing to enter. Marriage is not to be entered into lightly or ended lightly (Matthew 19:6, 1 Corinthians 7:10-11).

Let us pray:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this sister and her fiancé. Lord, You see the pain, the fear, and the uncertainty they are facing. We ask that You would draw near to them, comforting them with Your presence and filling them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Father, we pray for this man’s heart, that You would soften it, remove any hardness or distraction, and rekindle his love for You and for his fiancée. If this relationship is Your will, Lord, we ask for restoration, unity, and a renewed commitment to honor You in their marriage. If it is not Your will, give them both the strength and wisdom to walk away, trusting in Your perfect plan.

We rebuke the spirit of fear and control in this sister’s life. Help her to release her grip on this situation and trust You completely. Teach her to wait on You, to seek Your face, and to find her security in You alone. Lord, we also ask that You would reveal any areas in their relationship that do not align with Your Word, whether it be unconfessed sin, lack of accountability, or emotional unfaithfulness. Bring these things to light so they can be addressed with humility and repentance.

Father, we pray for godly counsel for this couple. Surround them with mature believers who can speak truth into their lives and hold them accountable. Help them to seek You first in all things, remembering that "unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain" (Psalm 127:1 WEB). Give them clarity, Lord, and help them to discern Your will with wisdom and discernment.

We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the Author and Perfecter of our faith, the One who holds all things together (Colossians 1:17). It is only through His name that we have access to You, Father, and it is only by His blood that we are saved. We declare that no weapon formed against this relationship will prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and we trust You to work all things together for good for those who love You and are called according to Your purpose (Romans 8:28).

In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Sister, we encourage you to cling to God’s promises during this time. "Cast your cares on the Lord, and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous be shaken" (Psalm 55:22 WEB). Seek Him first, and allow His Word to guide your steps. If your fiancé is a believer, remind him of the vows you are preparing to make before God, vows that should not be taken lightly. If he is not a believer, we urge you to prayerfully consider whether this is the path God has for you, as Scripture warns against being unequally yoked (2 Corinthians 6:14).

This is a season to wait, to pray, and to trust. Do not rush ahead of God, but do not shrink back in fear either. Walk in faith, knowing that He is with you. If this relationship is meant to be, He will restore it in His timing and in His way. If not, trust that He has something better prepared for you. Either way, He is faithful.

We hear the worry in your words, waiting while he’s away and your mind churns with what he’s thinking can feel so heavy. It makes sense that you’d want to fix this, to hold things together. But we’ve seen how peace often starts growing when we stop trying to manage every outcome and instead place the whole situation, and the person we love, into God’s hands. That’s not giving up; it’s an act of trust, and He can carry what feels too heavy for you.

The weeks apart, painful as they are, can become a space where God does real work, not just in your fiancé, but in you, too. When we let go of the need to control, we make room for His timing and His kind of clarity. That doesn’t mean you’ll have answers right away, but you’ll have the steadiness of knowing you’re not alone in this.

While you wait, you might find it helpful to write out your prayers as a way to hand each worry to the Lord as it comes. And if you have a trusted Christian friend or mentor who can pray with you regularly, that kind of support can hold you steady through the ups and downs.

Lord Jesus, we lift up this sister and her fiancé. You see the distance and the ache it’s causing. We ask for Your will in their relationship, give him genuine clarity about what is good and right, and quiet her heart so she doesn’t have to control the outcome. Hold them both, and draw them closer to You. In Your name we pray. Amen.

You are tempted to make a god of this affection and to fret because the idol seems broken. But hear this and let it sink into your trembling spirit, it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that showeth mercy. You say it is hard not to try to control everything, and indeed it is hard until you learn the sweetness of lying passive in his hand, and knowing no will but his. That very wrestling to seize the reins is itself a quarrel with the Most High. It is of no use to quarrel with God; it is disgraceful, ungrateful, and wicked for a child of God to do so. You will never be happy till self is dethroned, till you bow your head with reverent agreement and say, Not as I will, but as thou wilt.

You ask for his love to return, but you are drinking from a broken cistern if you place your peace there. There is a love far more sure. Hereby we come to know love, because he laid down his life for us. Do you perceive it? If Jesus so loved you, then you are as much loved of God as if he had not another child to love. Let this eternal flame burn in your sight, and your little candles of earthly affection will not cause such feverish anxiety. Should we not labor to realize more of him, taking in the whole truth concerning his Person and love by meditation? Drink abundantly, O beloved, from that chalice which never runs dry. Eat, O friend, the marrow and fatness of the feast, and your heart will be steadied.

While your fiancé is away, will you consider whether you have kept back a part of yourself from surrender? Any little reserve you have made will be the channel by which your life bleeds away. The Spirit often urges us to deep repentance for some ugly temper of worldliness or want of submission into which we have fallen. If you love God’s law, you can stand on the hilltop and in the valley, you can be slandered or face an uncertain morrow, because you have meat to eat that the world knows not of. Let love take its holy vengeance upon those inward Baals, the idols of needing certainty, the craving for a fellow creature’s perfect constancy. He says, I will take away the names of Baalim out of her mouth. Cry to him to do this purging work, that you may speak no more of control and worry in this idolatrous fashion, but instead rest in his faithful grasp.

Yes, pray that if it be God’s will the relationship be rebuilt, but pray with hands unclasped. Instead of begging only for a restored engagement, beg to know more of that love which passeth knowledge. The great peace belongs to those who love God’s law, who reach forward to resignation and acquiescence. Delight yourself also in the Lord, and then, in that secret place, you may safely bring the desire of your heart, leaving it as a child leaves a broken toy at a father’s feet, waiting to see whether he will mend it or give something better. The Lord makes the desires of his saints to be the foreshadowing of his own actions; he will either grant the request or so enlarge your heart that the request is swallowed up in a greater joy.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
