Relationship Strengthening

Disciple of Prayer
I ask that you please join me in prayer for me, ###, (nope, that's not a typo, that's how my name is spelled) my boyfriend ###, and our relationship.

Heavenly Father, I come to You seeking Your blessing upon our relationship.
Grant us the patience to understand each other's perspectives
and the grace to respond with kindness rather than anger.
Help us to prioritize each other’s well-being, listen attentively,
and build a foundation of mutual respect and unwavering support.

Lord, I pray for the ability to forgive readily and release the burdens of past hurts.
Help us to let go of pride and ego.
Give us the strength to reconcile with one another,
mirroring Your boundless mercy and grace.
Guide us in resolving conflicts peacefully,
with empathy and a willingness to compromise.

Father, we pray that You continue to strengthen the love between us.
Bind us together in Your love so that we may grow closer each day.
Remind us that we are stronger together,
and when one of us is tired or discouraged,
let the other lift them up.
May our relationship be a burst of light and a reflection of Your faithfulness.

Dear God, please help us to guard our tongues and think before we speak.
Grant us the wisdom to communicate our thoughts with honesty, gentleness, and truth.
Remove any temptation to criticize or judge,
and help us to always speak life over one another.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

We lift this request before the Lord with hearts full of concern and hope, seeking His will for your situation. First, we must address the foundation of your relationship. Scripture is clear that marriage is a sacred covenant between one man and one woman, designed by God to reflect His love and faithfulness. In Genesis 2:24, it says, "Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother, and shall join to his wife, and they shall be one flesh." The term "boyfriend" suggests a relationship that is not yet bound by this holy covenant, and we must examine whether this aligns with God’s design.

If your relationship is indeed a courtship with the goal of marriage, then we rejoice in that intention and pray fervently for God’s guidance. However, if this relationship involves intimacy outside of marriage, we must rebuke that in the name of Jesus. The Bible calls this fornication, and it is a sin that grieves the heart of God. In 1 Corinthians 6:18-20, it says, "Flee sexual immorality! ‘Every sin that a man does is outside the body,’ but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s." We urge you to honor God with your body and to pursue purity in your relationship, saving intimacy for the marriage bed.

We also notice that your prayer does not explicitly mention the importance of both of you being believers in Jesus Christ. A marriage or courtship should be between two people who share the same faith, as this is the foundation for a godly union. In 2 Corinthians 6:14, it says, "Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship do righteousness and iniquity have? Or what fellowship does light have with darkness?" If your boyfriend does not share your faith in Jesus Christ, we must ask you to prayerfully consider whether this relationship is pleasing to God. A relationship built on anything other than Christ will struggle to withstand the trials of life.

With these concerns in mind, we join you in prayer, asking the Lord to guide you both according to His will.

Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, seeking Your wisdom and guidance for ### and her relationship. Lord, we ask that You reveal Your will to her clearly. If this relationship is not aligned with Your Word, give her the strength to walk away and trust in Your plan for her life. If it is Your will for them to be together, we pray that You would bind their hearts in love and purity, leading them toward the sacred covenant of marriage.

Father, we ask that You soften their hearts to hear Your voice and to follow Your ways. Help them to prioritize their relationship with You above all else, for it is only in You that they will find true fulfillment. Lord, we pray for patience, kindness, and grace to flow between them. Teach them to communicate with love and honesty, and to resolve conflicts in a way that honors You. May they encourage one another in their faith and grow closer to You each day.

We rebuke any temptation toward impurity or sin in this relationship, and we ask that You guard their hearts and minds. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit, that they may walk in purity and righteousness. Lord, if there are any past hurts or burdens, we ask that You heal them and set them free. Help them to forgive one another as You have forgiven them, and to let go of pride and ego.

Father, we pray that this relationship would be a reflection of Your love and faithfulness. May it bring glory to Your name and draw others closer to You. We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

We encourage you to seek godly counsel from your pastor or a trusted Christian mentor as you navigate this relationship. Surround yourself with believers who can speak truth into your life and hold you accountable. Remember, God’s plans for you are good, and He desires to give you hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). Trust in Him, and He will guide your steps. If this relationship is not of God, do not fear letting it go, for He has something far greater in store for you. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, and He will lead you into all truth.

Dear ###,

We've been praying for you and your relationship, and we want to encourage you in a few more areas. We believe that God wants the best for you, and we're here to support you in that.

Firstly, we want to emphasize the importance of communication. We've seen in your prayer that you're seeking patience and kindness, and we believe that open, honest, and loving communication is key to fostering these qualities. In Ephesians 4:15, we're encouraged to "speak the truth in love." This means being truthful with each other, but always with a heart full of love and respect. We pray that God would give you both the wisdom to communicate effectively and the grace to listen attentively to each other.

Secondly, we want to highlight the power of forgiveness. Holding onto past hurts can be like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die. It's not healthy for either of you. We pray that God would give you both the strength to forgive each other as you've been forgiven by Him. In Colossians 3:13, we're told to "bear with each other and forgive one another, just as the Lord forgave you." This isn't always easy, but it's a crucial step in building a strong, healthy relationship.

Lastly, we want to remind you of the importance of personal growth. A strong relationship isn't just about the two of you, but also about the individuals you're becoming. We pray that God would help you both to grow in your relationship with Him. As you grow in your own faith, it will naturally strengthen your relationship with each other. In 2 Corinthians 13:11, we're encouraged to "aim for perfection, listen to my appeal, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you."

We're here for you, and we'll continue to pray for you both. Remember, God is always with you, guiding and loving you every step of the way. Trust in Him, and He will direct your paths.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

My boyfriend and I are both firm believers in Jesus Christ, and go to church together every Sunday. Christ is the foundation of our relationship, and we fully intend on marriage and unity in Christ.
