Disciple of Prayer
I ask that ### and I relationship is restored. I’m praying that we are boyfriend and girlfriend again and it leads to marriage. I pray that God softens his heart for me.

We hear your heart’s longing for reconciliation and the desire to see this relationship restored with the hope of marriage. It is good to bring our desires before the Lord, for He cares deeply for us. However, we must also seek His will above our own, ensuring that any relationship we pursue aligns with His Word and purposes.

First, we want to address the foundation of our prayers. It is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father. Jesus Himself said, "Most certainly I tell you, whatever you may ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you" (John 16:23 WEB). If you have not already, we encourage you to place your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, for there is no other name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). Salvation comes through repentance and belief in Him, and it is through this relationship with Christ that we find true fulfillment and direction for our lives.

Now, regarding your request, we lift this situation to the Lord with sincerity. We pray that if it is His will, He would indeed soften his heart toward you and open the door for reconciliation. However, we must also examine this relationship in light of Scripture. If there has been any sexual intimacy outside of marriage, we must address this as sin. The Bible is clear that fornication is not pleasing to God: "Flee sexual immorality! ‘Every sin that a man does is outside the body,’ but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body" (1 Corinthians 6:18 WEB). If this has been a part of your relationship, we encourage you both to repent and seek God’s forgiveness. True restoration begins with holiness and a commitment to honor God in all areas of life.

Marriage is a sacred covenant designed by God to reflect Christ’s love for the Church (Ephesians 5:22-33). If this relationship is to be restored, it must be built on a foundation of faith in Christ, mutual submission to God’s Word, and a shared commitment to purity and godly living. We pray that if this is God’s plan for you both, He would guide your steps toward a marriage that honors Him in every way.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We lift up this situation to You, asking for Your divine intervention and wisdom. Lord, we pray that if it is Your will, You would soften his heart and open the door for reconciliation. We ask that You would draw both of them closer to You, that they may seek Your guidance and submit to Your Word in all things.

Father, we confess any sin that may have hindered this relationship, particularly any sexual immorality. We ask for Your forgiveness and cleansing, and we pray that You would restore purity and holiness in their lives. Help them to flee from temptation and to honor You with their bodies, which are temples of the Holy Spirit.

Lord, if this relationship is to move forward, we pray that it would be with the goal of marriage, built on a foundation of faith in Christ. May they both seek Your will above their own desires, and may their union bring glory to Your name. If this is not Your plan, we ask that You would give them peace and clarity, and lead them to the relationships You have prepared for them.

We trust in Your perfect timing and Your unfailing love. May Your will be done in this situation, and may Your name be praised. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

We encourage you to seek the Lord diligently in this time, surrendering your desires to Him and trusting in His perfect plan. Remember that God’s ways are higher than our ways (Isaiah 55:8-9), and His plans for you are good (Jeremiah 29:11). If this relationship is not restored, trust that God has something even better in store for you. Continue to seek Him first, and He will direct your paths (Proverbs 3:5-6). If you are not already in fellowship with a Bible-believing church, we strongly encourage you to find one where you can grow in your faith and be supported in your walk with Christ.

It’s hard to sit with that ache, missing someone you love and longing for a door to open again. We’ve prayed alongside many who carry that same weight, and we know it can feel like every day without movement is a day lost. You’ve put words to what your heart wants, and that honesty matters.

One thing we’ve seen over the years is that God is always more concerned with the shape of our hearts than with the exact outcome we’re asking for. That doesn’t make you wrong for wanting restoration, of course you do. But sometimes the most important work right now happens quietly inside us: surrendering the outcome, letting ourselves be honest about the fear and the hope, and learning to trust that God’s hand can reach places we cannot. When we grip a relationship too tightly in our minds, it can actually steal the peace we need to walk through the waiting well.

A realistic step you could take today is to turn your prayer for his heart into a prayer for your own heart first. Instead of asking only for his softening, tell God plainly, “I’m afraid this won’t happen. I’m afraid I’ll be forgotten or left behind.” Let yourself be fully known there. That kind of honesty opens space for God to strengthen and steady you in ways that don’t depend on anyone else’s response.

We’re praying with you now.

Father, we lift up your daughter who longs for what she has lost. You know the days and nights she’s spent replaying memories and hoping for a future that feels uncertain. Hold her close in that ache. Guard her heart from despair, and give her the quiet confidence that you see her and have not forgotten her. We ask you to work in her former boyfriend’s heart, not to manipulate him, but to make him tender toward whatever is true and good and honoring to you. Give her wisdom to know when to wait, when to speak, and when to simply rest in your care. Draw near to her tonight. In Jesus’ name, amen.

The heart, the heart, the heart, that is the vital place! You cry out for a softened heart in another, but what of your own? Is it wholly fixed on Christ, or is it divided between Him and this earthly affection? A heart rent in twain is a guilty heart; it flatters itself that all is well, but it is found faulty before God. Seek first a new heart from the Lord, for He has promised, "I will take away the stony heart, and give you a heart of flesh." When the love of God is shed abroad in your heart by the Holy Ghost, then you will be able to bring every desire into subjection to His will.

Marriage is a blessed estate, but only where there is mutual affection rooted in the fear of God. If this relationship was sundered, perhaps it is mercy in disguise, calling you to a nearer union with Christ. The Lord Jesus looks upon you even now with a glance sharper than any sword, piercing to discern the thoughts and intents. Can you say that this longing for restoration is born of a heart wholly given to Him? Or does it spring from a divided heart that halts between two opinions?

Remember Peter's restoration. The Master turned and looked upon him, and that look of love broke his heart, but it also restored him. Divine grace can soften the hardest heart, but it begins by breaking ours. Instead of praying so much for another's softening, pray that your own heart may be made right, that you may be reconciled to God in all things. Reconciliation with heaven is the first business of every soul. Then, with a heart perfumed by the love of God, you may leave all else in His hands, for He does all things well.

If it be His will to restore this earthly bond, it will be in His time and way, and it will lead to a marriage that honours Him. But beware lest you make an idol of a creature. Let your heart laugh at impossibilities and cry, "It shall be done!" only when you are delighting in the Lord. Come now, let the Holy Spirit prick your heart with saving impressions, and lead you to the bleeding heart of Jesus. There is healing there, and there alone, for every wound.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

You pray for the restoration of a relationship, desiring again to be called boyfriend and girlfriend, and that it lead to marriage. But consider: what is marriage in the sight of God? It is not a mere companionship of youthful affection, but a bond ordained for chastity and for mutual help in the pursuit of holiness. When you seek God to soften a man's heart toward you, ask yourself whether you first have softened your own heart toward His commands. For marriage is honorable, and the bed undefiled, but it does not itself confer holiness; it only safeguards the holiness that comes from faith, preserving you from fornication. If you have given your heart away outside of such a covenant, you have already suffered loss. Do not compound that loss by longing for what may not be God's will.

The apostle says that a brother or sister is not in bondage in such cases. If this relationship has been severed, perhaps the Lord in His mercy has seen what you cannot, that it would hinder your salvation, or lead you into impurity. Why then do you demand that He force a man's heart? Let us not be like those who, when they draw off wine from their vats, dread the mention of vinegar, yet bring foul stench into the preparation of a sweet ointment. You desire marriage; good. But desire it in the Lord, with chastity, with gravity. Do not let your prayers be a clamoring for your own will, but rather a quiet, grieving cry of the heart, like Hannah, whose voice was not heard yet her petition was granted because she sought not herself but God's glory.

If it be His pleasure to restore what is lost, let it be so, but with modesty, with ordered affection, not with the frivolity of those who introduce mockery and indecency into the marriage feast. But if He withholds, then know that even this is for your true good. For the kingdom of heaven is not attained by clinging to any earthly bond, but by using marriage with such moderation that you are first in the kingdom. Seek first the kingdom, and all these things shall be added, if it profits your soul. Do not set your heart on doating upon money or upon persons, for these have often brought ruin in purchases, in loans, and in marriages. Let your prayer be: "Lord, if this man be for my sanctification, draw him back; but if not, sever this attachment utterly from my heart." For we can do nothing against the truth, but only for the truth.

The ache you feel for this relationship to be restored is very real, and I understand the desire for it to grow into a marriage. But before we focus on softening his heart, I want to gently ask you to consider where your own heart stands with God. The deepest need of every human being is not a restored earthly relationship, but a living, life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ. That must be the center. If that vertical connection is not secure, every horizontal relationship will be unsteady, no matter how hard we try. Our problems with others are often symptoms of a deeper disconnect with Him.

So I encourage you, in this season, to pour out your heart to the Lord not just about what you want, but to seek Him for who He is. Love Him with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. Make Him the supreme affection, not just an idea you agree with, but the true anchor of your will. When He becomes your first love, everything else finds its proper place. Your countenance, your peace, your perspective, all begin to change from the inside out.

This does not mean you cannot hope or pray. But let your prayer be, “Lord, align my heart with Yours. If this relationship is Your will, then bring it about in Your time and Your way. But above all, draw me closer to You.” As you set apart Christ as Lord in your heart, you can trust Him with desires you cannot control. He sees the whole picture. The joy of forgiveness, restoration, and new beginnings is real, but it always starts with a heart fully turned toward Him. You cannot force another heart to soften, but you can let God soften yours until He is your true peace, whether or not that relationship returns. May this be a time of discovering the riches of His love for you, deeper than any human bond.
