You ask for prayer that your relationship be restored and lead to marriage under God’s rule. That desire for a union honoring Him is right, but we must examine it soberly. True holiness in this matter is not merely wanting marriage; it is wanting it only as God defines it. If this relationship has involved sin, whether fornication, emotional impurity, or departing from His commands, restoration cannot mean simply returning to what was broken. First must come repentance, cleansing, and a new foundation in Christ. Marriage is honorable, but it does not of itself bestow holiness. It preserves the holiness given by faith when a man and woman live chastely within it. If you are unmarried, remain pure until a lawful union. If you have already been united in the flesh outside marriage, do not confuse God’s blessing with your own longing. He will not bless what violates His order.
Pray rather that both you and this person first seek the Lord with your whole hearts. Election is a sign of virtue, and God’s elect live by faith, not by demanding signs or restorations. If this relationship is His will, He will confirm it through obedience, patience, and the testimony of a clear conscience before the church. But perhaps the separation itself is a mercy, calling you away from something that would not have produced godliness. Imitate the saints who trusted God’s delays as much as His gifts. Pray, yes, but with the prayer of faith; which submits all outcomes to Him. Let your request be that you both grow in virtue, that if it be His design you marry, He would make it plain and lead you in purity; and that if it is not, He would heal your heart and give you contentment in Him alone. I will join my prayers to yours, not for a restored relationship on any terms, but for God’s perfect will to be done through your obedience.
