We hear your heart and we join with you in bringing these three deep desires before the throne of grace in Jesus' name. We thank you for your honesty in confessing the struggle with porn and lust, for that confession is the beginning of freedom.
We want to speak first about this addiction, because God calls us to walk in purity and holiness. Pornography is not a harmless habit, it is sexual immorality and lust of the heart. Jesus said in Matthew 5:28 that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart. And we are commanded in 1 Corinthians 6:18 to flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. This sin binds the mind, hardens the heart, and has consequences spiritually, emotionally, and relationally, but we rejoice that there is deliverance and forgiveness in Christ. 1 John 1:9 says if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. You do not have to remain in bondage, for Romans 6:14 says sin will not have dominion over you. God can create in you a clean heart as in Psalm 51:10 and renew your mind as in Romans 12:2, so that you are transformed and no longer conformed to the lusts of the flesh.
We also lift up your desire for relationship restoration with the person you mentioned. We pray that God would restore this relationship if it is His will and if it would honor Him. We believe that God designed romantic relationships to be courtship with the goal of godly marriage between a man and a woman, a lifelong covenant commitment. Hebrews 13:4 says let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled, but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers. 1 Thessalonians 4:3-4 says for this is the will of God, your sanctification, that you abstain from sexual immorality, that each one of you know how to control his own body in sanctification and honor. So we encourage you to examine this relationship in light of Scripture. Is this a relationship between two believers in Christ, pursuing purity and seeking marriage to glorify God. If there has been sexual immorality, including porn, lust, or fornication in the relationship, we urge you to repent and to pursue restoration on a foundation of purity going forward. If God intends this person to be your spouse, He can redeem and restore, but His will must be sought above our own desires. If this relationship is not aligned with biblical principles, we pray God would give you grace to surrender it and to trust Him for a godly spouse in His timing.
We also hear your longing for the peace of Jesus to fill your heart. That peace comes when we walk in repentance and surrender our anxieties to Him. Philippians 4:6-7 says in nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Jesus Himself promised in John 14:27 peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you, not as the world gives, give I to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful. This peace will grow as you are set free from sin and walk by the Spirit, for Galatians 5:16 says walk by the Spirit, and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
We pray together for you now.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before You on behalf of our dear brother. We thank You that You are merciful and mighty to save and to deliver. Lord, we ask for Your forgiveness where there has been lust and pornography, and we ask You to cleanse his heart and mind and create in him a clean heart and renew a right spirit within him. Break the chains of this addiction by the power of the cross and the Holy Spirit. Help him to flee temptation, to make no provision for the flesh, to put filters and boundaries in place, to seek godly accountability and fellowship, and to renew his mind daily with Your Word. Set him completely free and heal him from all consequences of this sin.
Lord, we lift up this relationship to You. You know the person by name and You know the pain of separation. If it is Your will, we ask You to bring restoration, healing, and reconciliation according to Your perfect plan. Let this relationship, if restored, be built on purity, honesty, and a shared faith in Christ with marriage as the holy goal. If it is not Your will, give him peace to release it and hope for the future You have prepared.
Father, pour out the peace of Jesus upon his heart right now. Guard his heart and mind in Christ Jesus, calm his anxieties, and let him feel Your presence and love. Help him to walk in freedom and joy, knowing that in Christ he is a new creation as in 2 Corinthians 5:17. We trust You to complete the good work You have begun in him. In the mighty and only saving name of Jesus Christ we pray, amen.
We encourage you to stay in the Word daily, to confess openly to a trusted mature believer or pastor for accountability as in James 5:16, to remove all access to pornography, and to fill your mind with Scripture and worship. God is faithful to set you free and to give you His peace as you seek Him with all your heart.
