Reformation, Obedience, Holiness, Presence of God...

Beloved of All
🙇🏻Father, "our fathers have told us what works You did in the past," Ps 44:1. We take as a presupposition You are no respecter of persons, and are the same yesterday, today and forever, Heb 13:8.Even though we know the Manifest Presence of God is a fearful thing, we ask You prepare our obedience to experience YOUR Holy Spirit it in a greater, weightier, degree. We're inclined to seek obedience [1], the Fruit of The Holy Spirit and humility (Knowing gifts are given, and humility is developed by suffering (David, John Baptist, Jesus, Peter, James, John, Paul), and Power of God brings a lot of "temptations" with it... It destroyed many men and women in the late 1800s until the 1950s-1960s, and gave us warnings of what to be on guard against -- fame, fortune, females -- gold, girls and glory... So we ask for The Fear of The LORD, the hatred of evil, freedom from bitterness, greed, lust and deception...

After having studied missionaries in Early Spring (David Brainerd to The Native Americans, Patrick to Ireland, Cyril and Methodius to the Slavic peoples, William Carey and Amy Carmichael to India, Hudson Taylor to China Inland, Adoniram Judson to Burma, some others to Africa (Livingstone), others to Korea (Robert Jermain Thomas), and then the Reformations and Revivals, Luther, Zwingli, Calvin, Knox, George Whitefield, and "real" revivals (starting mid-June): 1st Great Awakening, (Whitefield, William Tennent (Founded Log College -- Became Princeton) His son, Gilbert Tennent, more the revivalist, Jonathan Edwards (THE Theologian of True and False Awakenings) and David Brainerd (Missionary Native Americans) in The Colonies (1735-1750ish)...

In Britain, Whitefield, Howell (pronounced, Huell) Harris, The lives of The Brothers Wesley, John & Charles; This was undoubtedly The Hand of God in preparing 50,000 for death in The Revolutionary War (Most that died would have either heard The Revivalists themselves or been under the influence of those converted growing up).

This was followed by a rapid decay (Only need ONE GENERATION of not teach the children, Deut 6:7, Judges 2:10-11...

The 2nd Great Awakening: Small beginnings --Methodist "Camp Meetings, 1790's with Francis Asbury (and somewhat Thomas Coke) in forming the "Circuit Riders" -- "Cane Ridge" 1801 -- Gave " Charles G Finney (for revival and conversion rate, not theology), D.L. Moody, MANY others in U.S. and Spurgeon, George MĂĽller, William and Catherine Booth and others in The UK and Northern Ireland, and The revival in Wales, 1904, (Evan Roberts & Others), Azusa Street, 1906, (William Seymour & Others), and most recently The Revival in Lewis, Heberdes, N.W. Scotland, 1949 (Chiefly Duncan Campbell and Others) -- I came to see the manifest presence of God is granted by "strict obedience and consecration" (Jesus, Garden, "I AM HE" they fell backwards, John 18:6, and He is the same yesterday, today and forever, Heb 13:8, works He did shall we do also, John 14:12, as in Acts in Upper Room (rushing Mighty Wind while they were all together in prayer, Acts 2:1-42) and after being threatened in Acts 4 where the place was shaken., Ananias & Saphira fell dead, Acts 5?... God bless in Jesus' Name, John 1:16, Eph 1:17-19, Eph 1:3, 2 Peter 1:3-7...

Edwards saw it, Whitefield, Brainerd among the Native Americans, Wesley on occasions, Finney (not a fan of his theology but again 74% of his converts "stuck" -- He saw mass convictions and Holy & Awesome God just flooring people more than the others it seems almost all the time).

We believe God can and will do it again. Pray for salvation of all, even authorities, so we may obey the Great Commission freely, unhindered, Acts 28:30, and may work for the night is coming when no one can, John 9:4.

[1]Duncan Campbell says it's essential to real conviction and deep repentance, underlines strict obedience to God's voice, Wesley saw it as well as Whitefield and Brainerd, but also Wesley's "follow up methods" (gained from rubbing shoulders with Zinzendorf and the Moravians who formed small groups called "Banden" (Bands), Wesley duplicated that w/ "societies" and gained not only his and his fellow Methodists -- but also many of Whitefield's & Harris' converts (since they latter two were more evangelists, while Wesley was more an "apostolic figure" moving in Evangelism, Church Planter & Organizer, Teaching, Pastoring -- all quite freely). Thank You Father and all who pray and will be praying in advance until "Your Glory covers the earth," Num 14:21-22, Ps 72:19, Hab 2:14; and "the Lord's light shall shine on the righteous WHILE deep darkness is covering the earth, Isaiah 60:1-7, "And those that lead many to righteousness like the stars forever," Dan 12:3. Thank You for strength through prayer Eph 3:15-20, in Jesus' Name, Amen, Rev 3:14, 2 Cor 1:20.

We join you in this deep hunger for reformation, obedience, holiness and the manifest presence of God, and we count it a privilege to agree with you in prayer for these things in Jesus' name.

We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us what work you did in their days, in the days of old Psalm 44:1, and we take hold of the truth that you are the same yesterday, today, and forever Hebrews 13:8 and that God is no respecter of persons Acts 10:34. What you did in the days of Brainerd and Patrick, of Cyril and Methodius, of Carey and Carmichael, of Hudson Taylor and Judson and Livingstone, what you did through Luther, Zwingli, Calvin and Knox, through Whitefield, the Wesleys, Howell Harris, Jonathan Edwards, the Tennents, Asbury and the circuit riders, through Cane Ridge, Finney, Moody, Spurgeon, Muller, the Booths, Evan Roberts, William Seymour and Duncan Campbell, you can do again, for your arm is not shortened and your glory has not diminished.

We love your burden for strict obedience and consecration. You are right to see that the manifest presence of God is a fearful and holy thing, and that obedience is better than sacrifice 1 Samuel 15:22. He who has my commandments and keeps them, that person is he who loves me John 14:21. We pray with you that God would prepare our obedience first, before granting greater weight and measure of His presence, for without holiness no man will see the Lord Hebrews 12:14, and you shall be holy, for I am holy 1 Peter 1:16.

We also hear your wise caution and we echo it. The history you cite is a solemn warning. Power without character, anointing without the fruit of the Spirit, and gifting without humility destroys many. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up 1 Corinthians 8:1. The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness and self-control Galatians 5:22-23, and these must be cultivated even as we ask for power. We agree with you to ask for the fear of the Lord, which is the beginning of wisdom Proverbs 9:10, and the hatred of evil Proverbs 8:13, and for deliverance from bitterness, greed, lust and deception, from fame and fortune and impurity. God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble James 4:6, and humility indeed is often forged through suffering and hiddenness as it was with David, John the Baptist, and even our Lord Jesus Himself who learned obedience by the things which He suffered Hebrews 5:8.

We remember your word that Jesus is the same and that he who believes in me, the works that I do, he will do also, and he will do greater works than these John 14:12. We saw this in the upper room when suddenly there came from the sky a sound like the rushing of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting Acts 2:2, and again when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were gathered together Acts 4:31, and we know that our God is a consuming fire Hebrews 12:29 as seen with Ananias and Sapphira Acts 5:5. We do not seek signs and experiences for their own sake, but we seek Your face, to know Christ and the power of His resurrection Philippians 3:10, with clean hands and a pure heart Psalm 24:3-4.

We pray together for what you have asked:

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, through whom we have access and in whom all the promises of God are Yes and Amen 2 Corinthians 1:20, we humble ourselves and pray and seek Your face and turn from our wicked ways 2 Chronicles 7:14. Forgive us where we have failed to teach our children diligently as You commanded Deuteronomy 6:7, lest another generation arise who does not know You Judges 2:10. Grant us the grace of strict obedience to Your voice, like Duncan Campbell and Wesley and Brainerd taught, not as legalism but as love. Create in us clean hearts and renew a right spirit within us Psalm 51:10. Let the fear of the Lord keep us from evil and preserve us from the temptations of gold, girls and glory, from greed which is idolatry Colossians 3:5, and from deception and false prophets and false signs and wonders Matthew 24:24, 2 Thessalonians 2:9-10.

Pour out Your Holy Spirit again in a greater, weightier degree for Your glory and for the salvation of souls. We pray for the salvation of all men, for kings and all who are in high places, that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence 1 Timothy 2:2, so that we may fulfill the Great Commission freely and unhindered, preaching the Kingdom of God with all boldness, none forbidding him Acts 28:31, while it is still day, for the night is coming when no one can work John 9:4. Let Your glory cover the earth as the waters cover the sea Habakkuk 2:14, for the earth will be filled with the glory of Yahweh Numbers 14:21, Psalm 72:19. Let Your light arise upon Your people while deep darkness covers the earth Isaiah 60:1-2, and make those who turn many to righteousness shine like the stars forever and ever Daniel 12:3.

We ask You to raise up again true reformers and revivalists, evangelists and apostolic planters and teachers and pastors, and to give the Church the wisdom of Wesley and Zinzendorf to make disciples and form them in societies and bands for holiness and accountability, that the fruit would remain. Strengthen us with power through Your Spirit in the inward person Ephesians 3:16, and grant us according to Your riches the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Christ Ephesians 1:17. Keep us from evil Matthew 6:13, from sin and wrongdoing and lies Zephaniah 3:13, from evil men 2 Thessalonians 3:2 and from deceivers Titus 1:10 who creep in and lead astray 2 Timothy 3:13.

We thank You Father for hearing us when we agree together, and we trust not in methods or men but in Jesus Christ, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12, and it is through His name alone we come to You. We ask all these things according to Your will, for Your name and Your glory, in the mighty and holy name of Jesus, Amen.

We were grateful to read your prayer and to see the depth of study and longing behind it. You have traced so many seasons where God drew near to His people, and at the same time you carry a sober awareness that His presence is holy and weighty and calls for obedience and humility. That combination of hunger and carefulness stood out to us.

We hear your desire not just for an experience, but for a life shaped by faithfulness in the small things, kept free from bitterness and greed and deception, and anchored in the fear of the Lord. It is wise that you remember how easily power and attention can pull even sincere people off course. Staying low, staying accountable, and staying rooted in daily obedience is the steady way forward.

One practice that fits what you have already been learning from Wesley and the Moravians is to keep praying with a small circle of trusted believers who know you well. A simple band of two or three who meet regularly to pray, to speak honestly, and to encourage one another in obedience can help keep the hunger for renewal grounded and humble over time.

Father, we thank You for the hunger You have placed in our brother for holiness and for Your nearness. Keep him walking in obedience, guard his heart from temptation and pride, and form Christlike character through every season. Pour out Your Spirit in Your way and timing, bring many to know Jesus, and grant wisdom and protection to all who seek to make Him known. We ask this in Jesus' name, Amen.

Your prayer breathes a holy hunger which the Lord Himself must have kindled, a desire not for gifts and wonders only, but for obedience, holiness, and the weighty presence of God. This is well, for the great practical end of the Gospel is to bring the human heart into obedience to Christ and to make the stubborn will acknowledge allegiance to His sway.

You ask for grace to obey, and you do well to ask for exact obedience. The very essence of obedience lies in exactness, not in a general compliance which turns to the right hand or to the left as convenience dictates, but in scrupulous care to do according to all that the Lord has commanded. Such obedience is the highest practical courage, for to persist in it through life requires more grace than a single act of daring, and its path is generally a middle path, kept by a conscience that bows reverently before the Most High and says, What would You have me to do. Take care that your obedience be not that of a slave tuned to the crack of the whip, nor that of a well trained servant acting by constraint, but the obedience of a child, the obedience of love and of faith, cheerfully rendered because you have trusted Christ and He has created that obedience within you. No man is truly saved unless he is in his heart obedient to Christ, and though you will not be perfect, you will desire to be so, and you will seek to know more of His will that you may do it.

With this obedience must go that practical, vital holiness without which no man shall see the Lord. It is not a notion or a profession, nor mere morality which cleans the outside of the cup while the heart remains full of wickedness, but conformity to the will of God and obedience to the Lord's command, wrought in the life day by day. Scripture does not say without perfection of holiness no one shall see the Lord, for then none of us could have communion with Him, but it says without holiness, that is, a real, personal, active holiness which God has not merely called us to admire but to follow. Perseverance in holiness is the seal of the covenant, for He has put His fear in our hearts that we shall not depart from Him, and that fear is not a terror which drives away, but a holy reverence which keeps us near.

You rightly remember how the Lord has wrought in former days, in the Reformation and in seasons of revival, and how His works are still made manifest in His people. Often He permits poverty, sickness, trial and even long waiting that His grace may be seen in holy patience, submission to the Divine will, and persevering holiness amid affliction. When His people have been found in the way of active obedience, running upon their Master's errands, they have found that obedience rewarded and refreshed, for as they went to do His bidding Jesus met them, calmed their fears and gave them assurance that He is risen indeed. The presence of perfect purity is a terror to ungodly men, but to the obedient and holy soul it is heaven begun below.

We will pray with you as you have asked. May the Lord grant you and all who seek His face a deep fear of the Lord which hates evil, a deliverance from bitterness, greed, lust and deception, and a keeping from temptation, from evil, from deceivers and false prophets, from false signs and wonders, and from all that would draw you aside. May He grant the salvation of many, even of those in authority, that the Gospel may run freely and the Great Commission be obeyed unhindered. May He teach you that His commandments are not grievous and that obedience to them yields the peaceable fruits of righteousness, and may He magnify His law in your lives by making you steadfast in that intelligent, sincere obedience which seeks out His Word and follows it fully. And may the gracious presence of God be your heaven below and your hope of glory above, till His glory covers the earth and His light shines upon the righteous, to the praise of Jesus Christ our Lord, through whom alone is salvation, in whose name we ask these things. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your prayer reflects a deep hunger for holiness and for God to be truly known and obeyed, and we thank God for that hunger. We have heard your request and we join you in asking the Lord to work in a way that is faithful to His Word and that bears lasting fruit.

You are right to put obedience and holiness before any desire for experience. Scripture says to follow peace with all men, and holiness without which no one shall see the Lord. Holiness with us is not only turning from idols or outward sins, but being made holy in body and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. That holiness comes first through being born again by the washing of regeneration and the renewing of the Holy Spirit, and then by a life that is shaped daily by that new birth. We are called sons not in name only, but in deed, because we have received the Spirit of adoption and have been made free in Christ.

That is why singleness of heart matters so much. To fear God is to do what is right even when no one is watching, because we live before the sleepless Eye. It is not eye service as men pleasers, appearing one way when the master is present and another when he is absent, but service from the heart out of reverence for Christ. If we do what is evil when none sees us, we fear men and not God. True obedience is inward and consistent, and God honors that kind of consecration.

We also hear your concern about the temptations that have destroyed many who were given influence, the love of fame and money and impurity and glory. You are wise to ask for the fear of the Lord which is the hatred of evil, and for freedom from bitterness, greed, lust and deception. Gifts are indeed given, but humility is formed through suffering and lowliness, as we see in the lives of many who walked closely with God. Power without character does not endure, and the Lord establishes His people not by spectacle but according to the Gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery now made manifest by the Scriptures of the Prophets according to the command of the everlasting God. That is the foundation that will keep a work standing when testing comes.

We share your thankfulness for how God has worked in past generations, and your desire to see Him save many again and to see His glory cover the earth while deep darkness covers the peoples. We pray with you that God would grant true conviction and deep repentance that comes from strict obedience to His voice, not from excitement alone, and that any revival would be rooted in the clear Gospel of salvation through Jesus Christ alone, in repentance and faith, in love for one another and peace, and in a life of purity.

So we pray for you and with you: that God who is of power to establish you would strengthen you in the inner man through His Spirit, that you would grow in the fear of the Lord, in humility, in love, and in discernment. We ask the Father to guard you from temptation and from evil, from lies and fear and greed, from deceivers and false prophets and false signs and wonders, and to keep you from the love of praise and gain that has led many astray. We ask Him to keep you in sound doctrine and in a holy life, that you may be a vessel fit for His use, bearing His name faithfully before others.

We also pray for the salvation of all people, including those in authority, that we may live quiet and peaceable lives and that the Gospel may run freely and the Great Commission be fulfilled while it is still day. May the Lord grant you protection, wisdom, and perseverance, and may He form in you the fruit of the Spirit as you walk in obedience, looking to Christ who is the same yesterday, today and forever.

We will continue to remember you in prayer, asking that whatever God does in your life and in your generation would be truly of Him, centered on Christ, sustained by His grace, and shown in a holy and loving walk before Him.
