One IMPORTANT LESSON we learned from the healing evangelists of the 1940s and 1950s is that they can be given gifts, the anointing can be active AND they can GO ASTRAY in BOTH TEACHING AND LIFESTYLE -- and The PEOPLE can still think the VESSELS of CLAY are RIGHT WITH GOD... Jesus, we ask and agree for HUMBLE, yet bold, loving, (ok, humble again, the foundation of Jesus, Phil 2:1-11) -- LIFESTYLES yet extremely accurate in their preaching of The Gospel, and teaching of "everything You commanded," Matt 28:19-20 and attesting miracles, Acts 14:3. Confirm Your Word by The Holy Spirit that show You suffered, died for our sins, rose and ascended to heaven as Messiah, The Lord's True Anointed, Mark 16:20, John 20:30-31, Acts 2:22, Acts 4:29-30, Rom 15:18-19, 1 Cor 12:9-10.

Thank You in Jesus' Name Father, may You help us get our lives and message correct, 1 Tim 4:16, walk worthily in day-in and day-out lifestyles worthy of The Lamb and His mannerisms, John Col 1:10, 2 Thes 1:11, and confirm the Word and holy, humble lifestyle with gifts, signs and wonders, as it is written, "This salvation was first announced by the Lord, was then confirmed to us by those who heard Him, 4 and was affirmed by God through signs, wonders, various using miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to His will," Heb 2:3-4.

1 Corinthians 12:4-12, "There are different gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 There are different ministries, but the same Lord. 6 There are different ways of working, but the same God works all things in all people. 7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 8 To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in various tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. 11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, who apportions them to each one as He determines. 12 The body is a unit, though it is composed of many parts. And although its parts are many, they all form one body. So it is with Christ." We join you in this deep and weighty request and we say amen to your cry for bold, holy, loving lives and teaching that is worthy to be endorsed by God.

Your discernment is right and sobering. We have seen in Scripture and in history that gifts and anointing do not automatically equal approved character. Jesus warned in Matt 7:22-23 that many will say to Him in that day, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name cast out demons, and in your name do many mighty works, and then He will declare He never knew them. And Paul teaches in 1 Cor 13:1-2 that though we have prophecy and all knowledge and faith to move mountains, without love we are nothing. The lesson you draw from the healing evangelists of the 1940s and 1950s is a necessary warning for every generation, that vessels of clay can carry power and still go astray in both teaching and lifestyle while people assume all is well. That is why we must watch both life and doctrine closely as Paul exhorts in 1 Tim 4:16, Pay attention to yourself and to your teaching. Continue in these things, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.

We love your emphasis on Phil 2:1-11, the foundation of humility. The Lord gives grace to the humble, for God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble in James 4:6 and 1 Peter 5:5. We ask with you not for power without purity, but for lamb-like servants who are meek and lowly in heart like Jesus in Matt 11:29, yet bold when needed by the Holy Spirit as in Acts 4:29-30, Now, Lord, look at their threats, and grant to your servants to speak your word with all boldness, while you stretch out your hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of your holy Servant Jesus. We pray for that holy balance, humble in character, bold in witness, loving in lifestyle, accurate in preaching the Gospel and teaching all that He commanded in Matt 28:19-20.

We pray together for what you have asked.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, we come before Your throne of grace and we agree together for a generation of servants after Your heart. Grant to us and to those You are raising up hearts that are humble, obedient, and holy, walking worthily as You desire in Col 1:10 and being counted worthy of Your calling in 2 Thes 1:11. Keep us from pride when You entrust us with a little power, and keep us from compromise when we face the pressures of reformation and opposition. Let our lives be worthy of the Lamb day in and day out, in manner and motive, and let our message be extremely accurate, preaching Christ who suffered, died for our sins, rose and ascended as Messiah, the Lord's true Anointed. Confirm Your Word with the Holy Spirit through signs, wonders, various miracles and gifts distributed according to Your will as You have promised in Heb 2:3-4 and Mark 16:20, not to exalt us but to attest that Jesus is Lord and to draw many to salvation as in Acts 2:22 and John 20:30-31. Distribute the manifestations of the Spirit for the common good as You will in 1 Cor 12:4-11, whether wisdom, knowledge, faith, gifts of healings, workings of miracles, prophecy, discernments of spirits, tongues and interpretation, so that the Body may be built up as one Body in Christ in 1 Cor 12:12. Help us to believe Your promise in John 14:12 that those who believe will do greater works because Jesus has gone to the Father, and to ask in faith in John 14:13-14 and Mark 11:24, trusting You who rewards those who diligently seek You in Heb 11:6. We thank You in advance with thanksgiving, that Your peace which surpasses all understanding will guard our hearts in Phil 4:6-7, and we bless You for all Your benefits in Ps 103:2-5. Let all be done for Your glory and let Your yes be yes in Christ in 2 Cor 1:20 and Rev 3:14. Amen.

We encourage you to continue to contend for both character and power without separating them. Pursue love, pursue holiness, pursue sound doctrine, and earnestly desire spiritual gifts in 1 Cor 14:1. Remember that God is able to keep us from falling in Jude 1:24, but we are called to humble ourselves under His mighty hand in 1 Peter 5:6 and to walk in the fear of the Lord. May the Lord raise up many such faithful, loving, Spirit filled teachers and counselors and intercessors whose lives and lips agree, whose prayer and preaching are alike holy, and whom He can affirm and endorse without their being destroyed by pride.

We hear how deeply you long for leaders and for your own life to stay humble and faithful while carrying real responsibility. Wanting boldness and love without pride, and wanting the message and the daily life to line up, is a holy burden to carry.

What you named about the evangelists of the last generation is sobering. Gifts can be active even while character drifts, which is why we find it helpful to remember that fruit matters more than gifting for measuring health, and humility is not something we get in a moment. It grows slowly, like training for a long race, through small steady faithfulness, honest reflection and willingness to be corrected.

One simple practice we have seen help is to prayerfully invite a few trusted people who know you well to tell you honestly how they see your life and teaching, and to keep that circle close over time. That kind of relational accountability keeps boldness from turning into self reliance and keeps humility from turning into timidity.

We are grateful for your desire to walk in a way that is worthy of Jesus and to see His word confirmed with grace and truth.

Father, we ask You to keep this servant grounded in Your love, to grow humble courage and faithful teaching day by day, and to guard the heart from pride when influence increases. Shape daily life and words to reflect Jesus, and let whatever You entrust be used for the good of others and Your glory. In Jesus name, amen.

Your prayer touches a matter of the deepest weight, and there is great wisdom in the lesson you have laid to heart. You have rightly observed that gifts may be present and the anointing may seem active, and yet the vessel of clay may go astray both in teaching and in lifestyle, while the people still suppose all is well. This ought to keep every servant of Christ upon his watch, for when destruction walks through the land it casts its shadow before it, and that shadow is in the shape of pride, and when honor visits a man's house it casts its shadow before it, and that shadow is in the fashion of humility.

You ask for that which God delights to give, humble, obedient, lamb like servants who are bold when needed, filled with the Holy Spirit, loving in life and true in doctrine. Know this, that humility is not the telling of falsehoods against yourself, it is the forming of a right estimate of yourself. True humility is to feel that we have no power of ourselves, but that it all cometh from God, to lean upon our Beloved, to believe that He hath trodden the winepress alone, to lie upon His bosom and to exalt Him and think less than nothing of ourselves. The imitation of it is the nearest thing in the world to pride. Seek of God the gift of true humility, for there are many sorts of pride and they lurk in every heart, and he who is over head and heels in pride is most likely to imagine that he is not proud at all.

Yet do not fear that such humility will injure boldness. The centurion's deep humility was not injurious to the strength of his faith, and his gigantic faith was by no means hostile to his deep humiliation. So you may pray with the apostles, Lord grant unto thy servants that with all boldness they may speak thy word, while you also follow Him who made Himself of no reputation and took upon Him the form of a servant, as it is written in Philippians chapter two. Prostrate before the throne is the proper attitude for such prayer, for in humility is our strength for supplication. Let the goodness of God never become a cloak for pride or a couch for sloth, but an incentive to zeal.

You desire to handle power and the pressures of reformation without being destroyed. Remember that power with men may be an evil thing, but power with God ennobles the soul. No man hath any meritorious power with God. Our power proceeds not from what is in us, but from what is in God, that we may cry Abba Father and draw near through the blood of Christ alone. Whenever justification by faith has been uppermost in the preaching, the morals of the people have been purest and their spirituality brightest, for pride is always inconsistent with the true doctrine of the gospel. Try every teaching by this test, if it legitimately leads a man to boast of himself, it is not true. What hast thou that thou didst not receive. If all be of grace, boasting is excluded.

And concerning preaching, remember that the simple, plain declaration of the Word with all honesty hath exceeding power to awaken the conscience and to save the soul. Christ is both the power of God and the wisdom of God unto every one that believeth. Take heed therefore unto thyself and unto the doctrine, as the apostle exhorts in First Timothy chapter four verse sixteen, and continue in them, for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself and them that hear thee. Watch unto prayer, continue in the Word, and walk worthily of the Lord in all lowliness of mind, serving the Lord with all humility.

My prayer for you is this, that the Lord would keep you low at His feet and bold at His bidding, accurate in the preaching of the gospel, that Christ suffered and died for our sins and rose and ascended as Messiah the Lord's Anointed, and loving and holy in all manner of life, that He would confirm His Word with signs following according to His own will, not for your glory but for His, and that whether He entrusts you with little power or much, you may be found faithful, unspoiled by praise and unshaken by pressure, looking unto Jesus, who is the Author and Finisher of our faith. May He grant you to partake of that peace which passeth understanding as you cast all your care upon Him, and may all the benefits of Psalm one hundred and three be yours in Christ, to whom be glory forever. Your prayer for humble yet bold servants who teach and live the truth has been received with thankfulness, and it is right to bring this before the Lord.

You have asked well to pray for lives that can bear a little power without being destroyed by pride. Scripture shows that gifts are given by the same Spirit for the common good, not for display, and that each one receives as the Spirit determines. When greater gifts are given to some, there is a temptation to be lifted up, and when lesser gifts are given to others, there is a temptation to envy. Both must be checked. The apostle teaches that we are one body with many parts, and that no part should boast over another, but all should serve together in love.

You also remember rightly the lesson from vessels of clay who were gifted and yet went astray in teaching and in life. This is why boldness and humility must go together. True humility is not being lowly because you have no other choice, but choosing to be lowly minded when you could be high minded, following the mind of Christ who humbled himself in obedience. Even the disciples, though they were fishermen and poor and without standing, needed to be guarded lest they be lifted up when crowds gathered and when signs and wonders were done through them. The Lord therefore trains his servants to tread pride under foot, to know that they have freely received and must freely give, and that the power is Gods grace and not their own.

So we will pray with you according to the Scriptures you have cited. We ask the Father in the name of Jesus that he would raise up servants who are lamb like and obedient, yet bold when the truth requires it, filled with the Holy Spirit, sound in the gospel that Christ suffered and died for our sins and rose and ascended as Messiah and Lord. We ask that he would grant boldness to speak his word as in Acts 4:29 to 30, and that he would confirm that word with his own working as he wills, through signs and wonders and gifts distributed according to his will as in Hebrews 2:3 to 4, not to exalt the servant but to attest that salvation is from the Lord. We ask that their lives and their teaching would be kept together as in 1 Timothy 4:16, that they would walk in a manner worthy of the Lord as in Colossians 1:10, and that they would remain lowly in heart even while they are trusted with influence, remembering that God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble.
