Reconciliation

Dhitlor

Good and Faithful Servant
Please pray as I am in the process of trying to reconcile with people I have not spoken to in years. A lot of very negative things have happened between us (most occurring due to spiritual warfare). Pray for peace and healing and salvation for those who need it. Thank you.

We join with you in prayer as you step out in obedience to seek reconciliation after these years of separation and hurt, and we thank you for trusting us with this burden.

We hear your heart for peace and healing and we commend your desire to make things right. Scripture teaches us that reconciliation is at the very heart of God, for we are told that God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself, not reckoning to them their trespasses, and having committed to us the word of reconciliation in 2 Corinthians 5:19. We are also called to do our part as far as it depends on us, to live peaceably with all men as Romans 12:18 says, and to seek to be peacemakers for blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God in Matthew 5:9. This means coming with humility, seeking forgiveness where we have sinned and extending forgiveness where we have been sinned against, for if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you in Matthew 6:14, and bearing with one another and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any, even as Christ forgave you, so you also do in Colossians 3:13.

You rightly discern that spiritual warfare has been at work, for our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places in Ephesians 6:12. The enemy seeks to steal, kill and destroy relationships through bitterness, pride, and unforgiveness. Yet we must also honestly examine our own hearts and take responsibility for our part in the brokenness, confessing our sins, for if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness in 1 John 1:9. True healing comes not by blaming only spiritual forces but by repentance, forgiveness, and walking in truth and love.

We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and that our prayers are heard. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me in John 14:6, and there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved in Acts 4:12. If you have not already done so, we encourage you to put your faith in Jesus, that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved in Romans 10:9. It is through His blood that we have peace and healing.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before Your throne of grace in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We lift up this dear one to You and ask for Your wisdom, courage and humility as they pursue reconciliation. Lord, search every heart involved and bring conviction where there is sin, comfort where there is pain, and softening where there is hardness. We ask that You would tear down every stronghold of the enemy that has kept division and bitterness alive, and that You would replace it with Your peace which surpasses all understanding which will guard hearts and thoughts in Christ Jesus in Philippians 4:7. Grant healing to the wounds of the past, and help each person to forgive as You have forgiven us. We pray for salvation for those among this group who do not yet know You, that You would draw them to Yourself, open their eyes to the truth of the gospel, and bring them from darkness into Your marvelous light. Let this reconciliation, as far as it depends on all involved, bring glory to You and be a testimony of Your redeeming power. Guide every conversation, let words be spoken in love and truth, and let Your will be done. We ask all this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

We encourage you to continue to bathe this process in prayer, to put on the whole armor of God daily in Ephesians 6:11, to speak the truth in love in Ephesians 4:15, and to trust the Lord with the outcome even if others are not yet ready to reconcile. God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think in Ephesians 3:20, and we trust Him to bring the peace and healing you seek in His perfect timing.

We are thankful you shared this desire to pursue reconciliation after years of silence. Wanting peace and healing after a lot of hurt takes courage, and we are honored to pray with you for this.

One insight that often helps in this kind of journey is that forgiveness and reconciliation are related but not the same. You can make a quiet, personal decision to release resentment and to desire good for someone, even while rebuilding trust together is a slower process that requires willingness on both sides. Keeping that distinction in mind can take some pressure off and help you approach each conversation with more patience for yourself and for them.

As you move forward, it may help to go slowly and prayerfully, one relationship at a time. Before reaching out, spend time praying for that person and for wisdom about timing and words, and consider talking through what you hope to say with a trusted pastor or mature believer who knows your story. A brief, humble message that simply expresses care, owns your part, and leaves room for their response often opens the door more gently than trying to address everything at once.

We are praying for peace in these relationships, for healing where there has been pain, and for each person involved to be drawn closer to the Lord.

Father, we lift this dear one and each person they hope to reconnect with to You. Bring Your peace where there has been hurt, bring healing where there has been brokenness, and draw each heart toward Your grace and truth. Give wisdom, humility and right timing in every step, and let Your will be done in each relationship. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your desire for reconciliation is heard, and it is a gracious desire, for our God is a God of reconciliation and peace. We will pray with you and for you, that the Lord who alone can soften hearts and heal breaches will work in you and in those from whom you have been long separated.

First, let us remember where all true reconciliation must begin. There is forgiveness with God, and that forgiveness is only through Jesus Christ His Son. Whatever very negative things have happened, and whatever share of sin and sorrow has been on either side, the word stands sure, There is forgiveness with Thee, that Thou mayest be feared. It is a divine forgiveness, surprising and complete, purchased by the blood of Christ, the Just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God. Before we can rightly seek peace with others, we must know ourselves forgiven, and rest by faith upon that finished work. Believe in the forgiveness of sins for yourself, as you believe the Creed, and go your way in peace, for the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

From that forgiveness flows our calling to forgive one another. He not only forgave us at the first all our sins, but He continues daily to forgive, and He teaches us that ours is to be a joint work of mutual forgiveness. Forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you. This does not mean that all wounds are lightly passed over, but that where the Lord has shown us such manifest forgiveness, for us to forgive should become as natural as to open our hands. Pray that the Lord will give you a humble and tender heart, willing to confess where you have erred, willing to release debts where you have been wronged, and willing to leave the outcome in His hands.

You ask for peace, and we pray that you may know that perfect peace which the prophet describes, Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee, because he trusteth in Thee. It is written, The blood of Jesus whispers peace within. This peace is not the absence of difficulty, but a present possession even when duties press and sorrows surge around. As you seek to do the will of Jesus in this matter, rest will come. Keep your mind stayed upon Him, trust Him with those loved ones far away and with every conversation yet to come, and He will keep you.

You ask also for healing. The Scripture says the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations, and the least thing about Christ is healing. His fruit is sweet and nourishing, and even His leaves change the life blood and make the nature other than it was before. All our nations and all our hearts need healing, and there is abundance of healing power in Jesus Christ. We pray that He will heal what has been broken in these relationships so far as it depends upon you and is according to His wisdom, and that He will heal your own soul from bitterness or fear.

You rightly discern that we wrestle not only against flesh and blood. Yet the way of victory is still the way of the cross, through humbling, through confession, through faith in Christ. We will pray that where salvation is yet needed, the Lord will grant repentance and faith in Jesus Christ alone, for there is no other name by which we must be saved.

Let us pray together. O Lord our God, with whom there is forgiveness, we thank Thee for the blood of Jesus Christ which whispers peace within. Grant to this dear soul a fresh assurance of pardon through faith in Thy Son, and that peace of God which passeth all understanding to guard heart and mind. Give wisdom and meekness in every approach to those estranged, words seasoned with grace, and a spirit ready to forgive even as Thou hast forgiven. Where sin has wounded, bring healing by the leaves of the tree of life. Where hearts are yet unrenewed, grant salvation by Thy sovereign mercy, that they may be reconciled first to Thee. Keep all in perfect peace whose minds are stayed on Thee, and in Thy time and in Thy way work that reconciliation which will most glorify Thy name. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
