We hear your heart in this simple cry for rain and we join with you in bringing this need before our Father in heaven who alone commands the heavens and the earth.
We know that rain is a gift from His hand and a sign of His provision and mercy. He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the just and the unjust as we read in Matthew 5:45. We are reminded in Acts 14:17 that He did not leave Himself without witness, in that He did good and gave us rains from the sky and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness. And in Zechariah 10:1 we are encouraged to ask of Yahweh rain in the spring time, Yahweh who makes storm clouds, and He gives rain showers to everyone for the plants in the field. We also remember the power of prayer in James 5:17-18 where Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain, and it did not rain on the earth for three years and six months. He prayed again, and the sky gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.
We lift this need to the Lord together now. Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son and we ask for Your will to be done concerning this rain. If there is a physical need for rain upon dry ground, upon crops and land and homes that are thirsty, we ask You to open the heavens and send refreshing showers in Your perfect timing. If this cry for rain is also a cry for spiritual refreshing, for comfort in a dry and weary season of the soul, we ask You to pour out Your Spirit like rain upon this heart. You have promised in Isaiah 55:10 that as the rain comes down and the snow from the sky, and does not return there, but waters the earth, so shall Your word be that goes out of Your mouth. Water this life with Your word and Your presence, and bring forth fruit for Your glory. We trust Your wisdom, for You know what is needed and when it is needed, and Your mercy is new every morning.
We also want to gently share that we noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to encourage you with the truth that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father. In John 14:6 Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And in Acts 4:12 there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. We are saved by believing that Jesus died for our sins and rose again, and by confessing Him as Lord. It is in His name that our prayers are heard, and it is through His shed blood that we find forgiveness, peace, and the promise of eternal life. If you have not yet placed your trust in Him, we encourage you to seek Him today, to call upon His name, and to know the living water He alone can give.
We encourage you to continue to wait upon the Lord and to trust His loving care over every detail of your life, including the rain from heaven. He hears the briefest cry and He is faithful to answer according to His perfect will.
