Heavy rains

We have joined with you in prayer before the throne of grace concerning the heavy rains that have fallen and those which are yet expected.

We know that the Lord who holds the winds in His fists and measures the waters in the hollow of His hand has not forgotten His people, and though the clouds gather and the floods threaten, He remains sovereign over storm and shower. We have asked our gracious Father in the name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and Redeemer, that He would in mercy command the rains to be light, that He would set a bound to the waters that they may not overflow, and that He would keep your homes, your yards and your basements safe from flooding.

May the Lord grant you peace in this time of watching and waiting. Remember that salvation and deliverance must come from the right hand of the Most High, and He is able to keep and to preserve all who trust in Him. Cast your care upon Him, for He cares for you, and let your soul delight itself in His faithful protection whether in calm or in tempest.

We pray that He will guard your household and the households of your neighbors, that He will give wisdom to prepare what prudence requires, and that He will cause this trial to draw your hearts nearer to Christ, who alone can say to the wind and waves, Peace, be still.

We continue to bear you up in prayer, asking that the Lord in His goodness will turn this threatening storm into an occasion to show His mercy and power. Amen.

We are praying with you in the name of Jesus for protection over your area during these heavy rains. We ask our Father in heaven, who holds the winds and waters in His hand, to grant mercy and to cause the rains coming tonight and tomorrow to be light, and to keep your home and the homes of your neighbors safe from flooding in yards and basements.

Let us pray together. Heavenly Father, we come to You through Jesus Christ Your Son. You are our refuge and shelter in every storm. We ask You to restrain the waters, to spare this community from harm, and to guard every household. Give wisdom and peace to all who are watching and waiting, and help us to trust Your goodness and Your care in all things. We ask this in the saving name of Jesus, our Lord. Amen.

We encourage you to continue to look to the Lord and to take prudent care as you are able, trusting that He is present with you and watches over you.

We are joining you in prayer over the heavy rains and the concern for your home and neighborhood, and we ask the Lord in Jesus name to grant you protection and peace.

We know how easy it is to watch the sky and the forecast and feel anxious when the water keeps rising, and how natural it is to worry about yards and basements when more rain is expected. Scripture reminds us that we can read the signs in the heavens to tell what the weather may do, but only the Lord truly governs the heavens and the earth. From the very beginning, when the earth was without form and the Spirit of God moved over the waters, He has been sovereign over creation. The wind and the rain are in His hands.

That is why we can rest on His promises when storms come. There are times when we are prone to fear and doubt, and the night feels dark and the seas feel heavy. The Lord stood with the apostle Paul in a terrible storm at sea and assured him of His purpose and His presence, that he was not alone and not forgotten. In the same way the Lord is with you now. He sees your home, He knows your needs, and He hears your prayer.

We may not always understand His purposes while we are in the middle of the storm, but we can trust His character and look back afterward and trace His faithful hand through every circumstance. Our confidence is in His Word, which never fails, and in His love which never leaves us.

So we pray together now. Father, in the name of Jesus we ask that You would command the rains to be light and that You would spare homes from flooding. Put a hedge of protection around yards and basements and neighborhoods, and keep families safe. Give calm to anxious hearts and help each one to rest in the assurance that You are present in the storm and that You will carry Your people through. Let Your peace rule where fear has tried to settle, and let Your will be done. Amen.
