Father, thank You! Thank You for demonstrating Your love for us while we were sinners You gave Your Son, The Christ to die for us, Rom 5:8. Help us freely receive a fresh and greater outpouring of that love again even as it has already been shed abroad in our hearts by The Holy Spirit, Rom 5:5. We ask let Your love abound in us (and our love abound toward others) in all knowledge of God and true discernment, Wisdom to Choose highest of all possible options, that we may be sincere and without mixture, being filled with the fruits of righteousness which come through Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of You, His and our one true Father, Phil 1:9-11. Fill us with the knowledge of Your will and all that results from that, namely a walk worthy of Jesus' Name, pleasing You every way, abiding fruit in all good works, growing by increasingly knowing You more deeply, strengthened with all power, according to the might of Your glory, for the attaining of all consistency, joyously giving thanks at all times for for qualifying us to share in the inheritance of the saints-in-light, Col 1:9-12.

Perfect Father, we are admonished to pursue love, AND earnestly desire its expression through spiritual gifts, especially the edification of Christ's church, 1 Cor 14:1. We ask again in accord with the apostolic prayers, asking, “May our love abound in all knowledge and intense discernment, so we may distinguish between things that differ (see and choose those things which are highest, most excellent, and different from all earthly things -- God's perfect will, way and timing -- which transforms us by the renewing of our minds, as test and approve what the will of God is, that which is good, acceptable and perfect, c.f. Rom 12:2), in order to be sincere and blameless (without anything in our lives that can give offense to The Gospel, or cause our own faith to "hiccup" but rather remain steadfast), Phil 1:9-11, (See Matt 5:45, where we show ourselves to be children of Our Father in Heaven [who is Perfect, Matt 5:48], and Lk 6:35, where we will be called Children of The Most High, consistently bearing His image more clearly, 2 Cor 3:8, by showing what He is really like), Gen 1:27, 1 Cor 15:49.

Father, we are "always praying that we may stand PERFECTLY ASSURED in ALL the WILL OF GOD," Col 4:12. We ask for PRACTICAL WISDOM, James 1:5, Prov 2:6-7, and our inheritance as CHILDREN to be LED by The Holy Spirit, Rom 8:14, in PATHS of RIGHTEOUSNESS and JUSTICE, Prov 8:20, HEARING THE VOICE of JESUS, The Lord OUR SHEPHERD, Jn 10:4-5, 27.

Thank you for angels "sent forth to render service for the sake of those who will inherit salvation,” Heb 1:14, Ps 91:11-12. Keep us from temptation, Lk 11:4, sin, 2 Cor 13:7, Ps 119:2-3, wrongdoing, lies and fear, Zeph 3:13, and let us cease from sin, 1 Cor 15:34, 1 Peter 4:1-2, 1 John 3:9. Lead us not into temptation but rather deliver us from evil, Matt 6:13, and "see to it no one deceives us," Mt 24:4, for evil influences, Matt 24:12, evil people and imposters proceed from bad to worse in the last days, deceiving and being deceived, 2 Tim 3:13, keep us from those who claim to know God but by their deeds deny Him, Tit 1:16, have a form of godliness but deny it's power, in fact let us turn away from such as these, 2 Tim 3:5, again, keep us from evil people and the evil one, 2 Thes 3:2-3. We pray like Jesus, not that You take us out of the world, but rather You keep us from the evil one, John 17:15, lead us not into temptation, but rather keep us from the evil one, Matt 6:13. Grant favor as a shield, Ps 5:12, as we thank You in advance, Mk 11:24, and may the peace of God that passes comprehension guard hearts and minds in Christ Jesus, Phil 4:6-7, 2 in whom all the promises are yes and amen, Cor 1:20. We come before You, Heavenly Father, with hearts full of gratitude for Your boundless love and mercy. Your Word reminds us in Romans 5:8, "But God commends his own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." We stand in awe of this truth, knowing that Your love is the foundation of our faith and the source of our hope.

We echo the apostle Paul’s prayer in Philippians 1:9-11, asking that our love may abound more and more in knowledge and all discernment, so that we may approve the things that are excellent. Father, fill us with the wisdom to choose the highest and most excellent paths, that we may be sincere and without offense until the day of Christ, being filled with the fruits of righteousness which come through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

We also lift up the prayer in Colossians 1:9-12, asking that You fill us with the knowledge of Your will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding. Strengthen us with all power according to the might of Your glory, so that we may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to You, bearing fruit in every good work and growing in the knowledge of God. We joyously give thanks to You, Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.

Lord, we earnestly desire to pursue love, as instructed in 1 Corinthians 14:1, and to seek the spiritual gifts, especially those that edify the church. Grant us the discernment to distinguish between things that differ, that we may choose what is highest and most aligned with Your perfect will. Transform us by the renewing of our minds, as Romans 12:2 teaches, so that we may prove what is the good, acceptable, and perfect will of God.

We stand perfectly assured in Your will, as Colossians 4:12 encourages, and we ask for practical wisdom, as James 1:5 promises. Lead us by Your Holy Spirit, as Romans 8:14 declares, in paths of righteousness and justice. May we hear the voice of Jesus, our Shepherd, as John 10:4-5 and 27 describe, and follow Him faithfully.

Thank You for the angels You have sent to minister to us, as Hebrews 1:14 and Psalm 91:11-12 affirm. Protect us from temptation, sin, wrongdoing, lies, and fear. Deliver us from evil and the evil one, as Matthew 6:13 and John 17:15 implore. Keep us from deception, as Matthew 24:4 warns, and from those who deny You by their deeds, as Titus 1:16 and 2 Timothy 3:5 describe. Shield us with Your favor, as Psalm 5:12 declares, and let Your peace guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus, as Philippians 4:6-7 promises.

We thank You in advance for Your answers to our prayers, believing in the power of Your promises, as 2 Corinthians 1:20 assures us. All these things we ask in the mighty name of Jesus, for it is through Him alone that we have access to You, and there is no other name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). May our lives bring glory and praise to Your holy name, now and forever. Amen.

We hear the depth of your prayer, the longing for love that’s full of wisdom, a heart that truly knows what is best, and the grateful joy of walking with God. Thank you for letting us share in that.

When we pray for love to abound in discernment and for the ability to choose the highest things, it’s easy to picture a sudden breakthrough. Yet the shape of this kind of growth often resembles a long, steady training. The apostle Paul compared the life of faith to an athlete in training, not a single race. Love that overflows in real knowledge and razor-sharp insight is built over time, through countless small decisions: pausing to listen before speaking, choosing patience when it’s costly, forgiving when it’s unfair, and offering thanks even when the day feels thin. Each time you act on the love you’re asking for, you’re putting in another mile of that training. Your prayer isn’t just words, it’s already a step in the daily work God uses to shape what you’re seeking.

As you keep giving thanks and pursuing love, we stand with you in this simple prayer:

Father, thank You for already pouring Your love into these hearts. Keep them growing in the wisdom that comes from walking with You day by day. Guard them from the evil one, and give them the quiet strength to choose what pleases You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

It is a sweet thing when the soul longs to pursue love, and to have that love abound in all knowledge and judgment. The prayer that has been lifted up is full of Scripture, and it pleases the Father to hear His children plead His own promises. Yet I would have you remember this: the heart that burns with first love for Christ can grow cold while the lips still speak of high things. Have you not found, even in the asking, that the very fervour of your love is not what once it was? When first we knew Him, what would we not do for Christ? How swift we were to obey, how tender in conscience, how jealous over our thoughts lest any idol creep in! But now, though you pray for the highest things, is there not a secret slackness? Does the world see in you a joy that cannot be hid? Do you rush to meet with His people, and do you count the hours till you can be alone with Him in prayer? If not, take heed. The Father will not spare the rod if His child’s love cools. It is because He loves you that He will not endure half-heartedness.

You ask to be led in paths of righteousness, to be kept from evil, to know God’s will and walk in it. This is a right desire, but know that the will of God is sometimes a rough road. It may strip you of your comforts, and take away the vineyards that you thought were your own. Yet it is love, sparing love, restraining love, inviting love, all of it love. The Lord says, “I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak comfortably unto her.” He takes away the Baalim from our mouths, the little idols we scarcely name, that we may call Him “Ishi,” my Husband. Do not fear the Providences that seem dark; they are teachers sent from God. He has taught you from your youth, and He will teach you still, by His Word, by His Spirit, and by the observation of His dealings. Only be sure you do not neglect the public assembly of the saints, nor let your Bible grow dusty while you search for high revelations. The plain command is more often the will of God than some special whisper.

But ah, what a glorious portion is yours if you are indeed His! “I have loved thee,” saith the Lord. That is the ocean in which all our love must float. His love is infinite, boundless, eternal, unchangeable, love that spared not His own Son. Here is the fountain; drink deeply. You cannot exhaust it. And when you perceive that love, then love Him in return, and show it by a life that is sincere and without offence. Let your walk be such that no stumbling block is laid before the weak. This is practical wisdom: to cease from covetousness, to submit to His will, to find great peace in loving His Law. The man who loves God’s Law will not be puffed up by prosperity nor crushed by adversity; he has a peace that the world cannot give nor take away.

I do not doubt that you have sought the highest. But I charge you, go again to the cross. There, where love laid down its life for enemies, you will find your first love rekindled. And if you have never yet tasted of that love, if you are a stranger to the new birth, then all your prayers for discernment are vain until you come as a sinner and drink of the grace that flows from Jesus’ wounds. The Spirit and the Bride say, Come. Whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. God’s will is that you should believe on Him whom He hath sent.

Go now, and let your love abound yet more and more. Pray still, but labour also to bring every thought into captivity to Christ. Watch against the first coolness. Repent quickly when you fail. And remember, it is not your grip on Him that saves you, but His grip on you. He will present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy. To that end, I commend you to the God of all grace, who hath qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light. Amen.

You pray for love to abound in knowledge and all discernment, and rightly so. For love is not a blind impulse, a warmth felt without reason. The Apostle prays this very thing, that your love may grow not merely in fervor but in knowledge and insight, so that you may approve the things that are excellent. This is the true safeguard. There are those who love without judgment, who extend the same affection to truth and to error, and their friendships become their ruin. A love born of knowledge discriminates; it does not embrace a spurious doctrine under the pretense of charity. To love with discernment is to love as God loves, who makes His sun rise on the evil and the good, yet has no fellowship with darkness. When you ask for wisdom to choose the highest, the most excellent way, you are asking for this very thing: a love that sees clearly, that is sincere and without offence, that will stand pure in the day of Christ. This is no small request, but it is according to His will.

Yet consider the nature of the love you seek. You plead for a fresh outpouring, and indeed the Holy Spirit has already poured it into your hearts. But do you love only for the sake of receiving? Do we become self-controlled, pure, and full of good works merely for a reward? That is a mercenary virtue, a disgrace and a great condemnation. God, in His mercy, stoops to our weakness and sets a prize before us, but the highest motive is to love goodness for its own sake, to love Him because He first loved us. Understand the love of God! When we were enemies, obstinate, injurious, fleeing from Him, He pursued us and apprehended us in Christ. This is a love without measure, beyond which none can go. When your soul is gripped by this, that He laid down His life for you while you were yet a sinner, then your love will abound not as a calculated exchange but as a joyous, thankful fountain. It will flow out to others, not because you are commanded, but because you have been so loved.

Therefore, when you ask to be led in paths of righteousness, to hear the Shepherd’s voice and be kept from the evil one, do so with confidence and with a quiet heart. He who apprehended you will not let you go. The peace that passes understanding will guard you, not because you have perfectly framed your request, but because you are His. Cease from the anxiety that multiplies words. Entrust yourself to the love that has already qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. Press on, then, to know Him more deeply. Let this be your pursuit: to stand perfectly assured, not by your own grip on wisdom, but by being held firmly in the grip of His love. This is the knowledge that makes all other discernment clear, and this is the love that never fails.
