Proverbs, Chapter 28

28:1 The wicked flee when no man pursues; But the righteous are bold as a lion.

28:2 For the transgression of a land many are its princes; But by [a] man of understanding [and] knowledge the state [of it] will be prolonged.

28:3 A needy [noble] man who oppresses the poor Is [like] a sweeping rain which leaves no food.

28:4 Those who forsake the law praise the wicked; But such as keep the law contend with them.

28:5 Evil men don't understand justice; But those who seek Yahweh understand all things.

28:6 Better is the poor who walks in his integrity, Than he who is perverse in [his] ways, though he is rich.

28:7 Whoever keeps the law is a wise son; But he who is a shepherd of gluttons shames his father.

28:8 He who augments his substance by interest and increase, Gathers it for him who has pity on the poor.

28:9 He who turns away his ear from hearing the law, Even his prayer is disgusting.

28:10 Whoever causes the upright to go astray in an evil way, He will fall into his own pit; But the perfect will inherit good.

28:11 The rich man is wise in his own eyes; But the poor who has understanding searches him out.

28:12 When the righteous triumph, there is great glory; But when the wicked rise, man will hide.

28:13 He who covers his transgressions will not prosper: But whoever confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.

28:14 Happy is [the] man who fears always; But he who hardens his heart will fall into mischief.

28:15 [As] a roaring lion, and a ranging bear, [so is] a wicked ruler over a poor people.

28:16 The leader who lacks understanding is also a great oppressor; [but] he who hates covetousness will prolong his days.

28:17 [A] man who is laden with the blood of any person Will flee to the pit; let no man uphold him.

28:18 Whoever walks uprightly will be delivered; But he who is perverse in [his] ways will fall at once.

28:19 He who tills his land will have plenty of bread; But he who follows after vanities will have poverty enough.

28:20 A faithful man will abound with blessings; But he who hurries to be rich will not be unpunished.

28:21 To show favoritism is not good; Neither that a [noble] man should transgress for a piece of bread.

28:22 He who has an evil eye hurries after riches, And does not know that want will come upon him.

28:23 He who rebukes man will afterward find more favor Than he who flatters with the tongue.

28:24 Whoever robs his father or his mother, and says, It is no transgression, The same is the partner of a destroyer.

28:25 He who is of a greedy spirit stirs up strife; But he who puts his trust in Yahweh will be made fat.

28:26 He who trusts in his own heart is a fool; But whoever walks wisely, he will be delivered.

28:27 He who gives to the poor will not lack; But he who hides his eyes will have many a curse.

28:28 When the wicked rise, man hides himself; But when they perish, the righteous increase.

The following discussion is from the January Reading of This Chapter of Proverbs at ericasp.com:<BR><BR>

<blockquote><p>He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy (Proverbs 28:13).<br /></p></blockquote>

<p><br />It's cool to find strands of the Gospel written into the Hebrew Scriptures 1000 years before the birth of Christ.  Proverbs 28:13 is just such an instance -- beautiful in its breadth and brevity of meaning.<br /><br />Really, this verse is a succinct summary of what we can find in 1 John 1:5-9, where it says, "This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you:  God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.  If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth.  But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.  If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."<br /><br />And it really makes sense, if you think about it.  Proud and self-sufficient people -- who are of course just as flawed and fractured as the rest of us, whether they admit it or not -- do not get much mercy, from God or from other people.  But when there is an admission of personal guilt and imperfection, there is hope for a restored relationship with God and with others.  This was the hope of Solomon.  And it's my hope today, too.</p>

28:26 He who trusts in his own heart is a fool; But whoever walks wisely, he will be delivered.

Lord, help us not to make decisions based on feelings alone. Give us wisdom, help us to weigh choices based on Your Word and sound teaching.

Jeremiah 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is exceedingly corrupt: who can know it?

To show favoritism is not good. How many times we have seen people show favoritism in schools, churches, work place even in the supermarket. I love to help this one and not the other one. They say. But Gods word tells us not to show favoritism to no one. God has created all of us in His own image so we must treat everyone just as we would treat Jesus himself. Dear God help my new years resolution to be this verse. Not to show favoritism to no one and to love my neighbor as myself. We want to be faithful servants and give you praise and honor in whaterver we do and say. In Jesus name. Amen

I have volunteered at a local soup kitchen and it was so rewarding to see how God provides for the poor and needy. A lot of them were homeless, others were mothers with lots of children, others were laid off workers who could not find jobs. All of them hungry and needy and God provided for them. He who gives the poor will not lack. 28.27  Specially in this cold weather where a lot of children are with the flu and they lack coats and warm blankets for the night. Some of them are without heat. May God have mercy on them and provide for them. Dear God make us a light in this dark world where we can be a blessing to others and serve you with our whole hearts and souls. Fill us with the power of Holy Ghost and make us see the need of other people. May our resolution in this coming year will be to clothe the naked and to feed the hungry. In your holy name we pray. Amen

Me too. I love Jesus and I want to help others as I would to Jesus. Volunteer? Of course. There is always time for God to do something worthwhile. This chapter tells us exactly that and we thank all of you for posting it and makins us think about  the eternal truth of God. Thanks again.

Your are my protector and deliverer. From the snares that comes my way. You are my strenght and the light in my darkness. Jesus my Lord and savior. I give you all the glory and honor. I know one day I will see your face and be happy forever more. 28.7 Whoever keeps a law is a wise son. Lord Jesus help me be a wise child of yours. Because we love your holy name and want to serve you with our whole heart. Jesus is the sweetest name I know. Praise His holy name. Amen
