Proverbs, Chapter 26

26:1 As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, So honor is not seemly for a fool.

26:2 As the sparrow in her wandering, as the swallow in her flying, So the curse that is causeless does not come.

26:3 A whip for the horse, a bridle for the donkey, And a rod for the back of fools.

26:4 Do not answer a fool according to his folly, Or else you will also be like him.

26:5 Answer a fool according to his folly, Or else he will be wise in his own eyes.

26:6 He who sends a message by the hand of a fool Cuts off [his own] feet, [and] drinks crime.

26:7 [As] the legs hang loose from a cripple: So is a parable in the mouth of fools.

26:8 As one who binds a stone in a sling, So is he who gives honor to a fool.

26:9 [As] a thorn that goes up into the hand of a drunkard, So is a parable in the mouth of fools.

26:10 [As] an archer that wounds all, So is he who hires a fool and he who hires those who pass by.

26:11 As a dog that returns to his vomit, [so is] a fool that repeats his folly.

26:12 Do you see a man wise in his own conceit? There is more hope of a fool than of him.

26:13 The sluggard says, There is a lion in the way; A lion is in the streets.

26:14 [As] the door turns on its hinges, So does the sluggard on his bed.

26:15 The sluggard buries his hand in the dish; It wearies him to bring it again to his mouth.

26:16 The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit Than seven men who can render a reason.

26:17 He who passes by, [and] is furious with strife not belonging to him, Is [like] one who takes a dog by the ears.

26:18 As a lunatic who casts firebrands, Arrows, and death,

26:19 So is the man who deceives his fellow man, And says, Am I not joking?

26:20 For lack of wood the fire goes out; And where there is no whisperer, contention ceases.

26:21 [As] coals are to hot embers, and wood to fire, So is a contentious man to inflame strife.

26:22 The words of a whisperer are as dainty morsels, And they go down into the innermost parts.

26:23 Fervent lips and a wicked heart Are [like] an earthen vessel overlaid with silver dross.

26:24 He who hates dissembles with his lips; But he lays up deceit inside him:

26:25 When he speaks fair, don't believe him; For there are seven disgusting things in his heart:

26:26 Though [his] hatred covers itself with guile, His wickedness will be openly shown before the assembly.

26:27 Whoever digs a pit will fall in it; And he who rolls a stone, it will return on him.

26:28 A lying tongue hates those whom it has wounded; And a flattering mouth works ruin.

Lord, I will sing of your power, I will sing aloud of your mercy in the morning.  For You have been my defense and refuge in the day of my trouble.  Psalm 59.16  Let us all lift our voices to God for His mercy is from everlasting to everlasting to those who love Him with all their heart, mind and soul.  For lack of wood the fire goes out. Prov. 26.20a   May the fire of the Lord fill our hearts today and ever.  Amen

Proverbs 26:12: "Do you see a man wise in his own conceit? There is more hope of a fool than of him."

Let's be honest. Most of us who have reached the age of accountability are fools or have certainly lived that way for a period of time. "God has concluded all under sin that he may have mercy on all," and, "There is none righteous, no, not one!" Yet the verse above makes a distinction between certain kinds of people: fools and fat heads. Why is that? Are some sinners worse than others?

As a Catholic and unlike a Protestant who believes "sin is sin," I am free to believe that is the case.

I believe that the character players mentioned in the Book of Revelation are especially evil because of their momumental, even pathological conceit. The Beast represents the militaristic Herodians of the world who nibble at religious truths around the edges but never get to the heart of the Golden Rule. The False Prophet represents the Christ-crucifying Pharisees with their proud campaign against the innocent. The idolatrous Great Harlot is a special group of licentious, power-grabbing, money-hungy individuals who have an insatiable thirst for blood and the "good things" of this life. All of them claim religion to some extent. But as been said quite wisely, "A good man is used of God. An evil man uses God."

"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places (Eph. 6:12)."

All of these extraordinary characters--and it is very important to see them as extra ordinary, that is, outside the boundaries of ordinary---are "wise in their own conciet." They are so deeply entrenched in their sins, one cannot even get them to reflect on their wickedness as one may do so with an ordinary fool such as drug addict or a prostitute. There is more hope of salvation for a fool than for them.

John the Baptist in Luke 3 warned against doing anything that would lead us into the company of the extraordinarily conceited or connect us with them in any way. All of us are required to do everything possible to repent of any and all greed, slander, and unjust violence.

I surrender all. All to Thee my blessed Saviour I surrender all. All to Jesus I surrender make Savior whole Thyne. Send Thy Holy Spirit over us. We have nothing in this world. Naked have I come out of my mothers womb and naked shall return to God who gave us the breath of life. Give it all to Jesus. He alone will carry you through. Do not answer a fool according to his folly. Prov. 26.4a Pray for them. Ask Jesus to save their souls and invite them to church. Jesus loves all the fools there is and we must take them to the feet of Jesus so they too will surrender all to Him.

Let us all enter into the holy throne of God with fear and trembling.  He alone is worthy of all our praise and glory. Let us all bow down before Him and honor Him. Holy is the Lord our God.  Let us thank Him for giving us His holy word.  To feed our souls and to meditate on Him alone.  Amen

Jesus sees the sorrow and grief within my heart.  He knows it very well.  Jesus knows the sadness that come to us when we lost someone dear.  Jesus comes to us to confort our hearts and give us peace. Christ knows our heart aches and everything that comes along with it.  For lack of wood the fire goes out.  Jesus, make the light of your presence shine through us. To confort those who are going through a hard time.  Make us a blessing that others will see Jesus shining in our lives.  Amen
