Proverbs, Chapter 24

24:1 Don't be envious against evil men; Neither desire to be with them:

24:2 For their heart studies oppression, And their lips talk of mischief.

24:3 Through wisdom is a house built; And by understanding it is established;

24:4 And by knowledge are the chambers filled With all precious and pleasant riches.

24:5 A wise [noble] man is strong; Yes, a man of knowledge increases might

24:6 For by wise guidance you will make your war; And in the multitude of counselors there is safety.

24:7 Wisdom is too high for a fool: He does not open his mouth in the gate.

24:8 He who devises to do evil, Men will call him a mischief-maker.

24:9 The thought of foolishness is sin; And the scoffer is disgusting to man.

24:10 If you faint in the day of adversity, Your strength is small.

24:11 Deliver those who are carried away to death, And see that you hold back those who are ready to be slain.

24:12 If you say, Look, we did not know this; Does not he who weighs the hearts consider it? And he who keeps your soul, does he not know it? And will he not render to man according to his work?

24:13 My son, eat honey, for it is good; And the drippings of the honeycomb, which are sweet to your taste:

24:14 So you will know wisdom to be to your soul; If you have found it, then there will be a reward, And your hope will not be cut off.

24:15 Don't lay in wait, O wicked man, against the habitation of the righteous; Don't destroy his resting-place:

24:16 For a righteous man falls seven times, and rises up again; But the wicked are overthrown by calamity.

24:17 Don't rejoice when your enemy falls, And don't let your heart be glad when he is overthrown;

24:18 Or else Yahweh will see it, and it will be evil in his eyes, And he will turn away his wrath from him.

24:19 Don't fret yourself because of evildoers; Neither be envious at the wicked:

24:20 For there will be no reward to the evil man; The lamp of the wicked will be put out.

24:21 My son, fear Yahweh and the king; [And] don't company with those who are given to change:

24:22 For their calamity will rise suddenly; And the destruction from them both, who knows it?

24:23 These also are [words] of the wise. To show favoritism in judgment is not good.

24:24 He who says to the wicked, You are righteous; Peoples will curse him, nations will abhor him:

24:25 But to those who rebuke [him] will be delight, And a good blessing will come upon them.

24:26 He kisses the lips Who gives a right answer.

24:27 Prepare your work outside, And make it ready for yourself in the field; And afterward build your house.

24:28 Don't be a witness against your fellow man without cause; And do not deceive with your lips.

24:29 Don't say, I will do so to him as he has done to me; I will render to the man according to his work.

24:30 I went by the field of the sluggard, And by the vineyard of [the] man void of understanding;

24:31 And, look, it was all grown over with thorns, The face of it was covered with nettles, And the stone wall of it was broken down.

24:32 Then I looked, and considered well; I saw, and received instruction:

24:33 [Yet] a little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to sleep;

24:34 So will your poverty come as a robber, And your want as an armed man.

The following discussion is from the January Reading of This Chapter of Proverbs at ericasp.com:<BR><BR>

<blockquote><p>Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter.  If you say, "But we knew nothing about this," does not he who guards your life know it?  Will he not repay each person according to what he has done? (Proverbs 24:11-12).<br /></p></blockquote>

<p><br />Even now, more than six decades after the conclusion of the Second World War, the Holocaust is a touchy subject in Holland.  They were hit hard by Adolf Hilter's campaign to "cleanse" Europe of its "impurities."  From an outsider's perspective, it seems there is a pervasive pan-generational sense of pain, anger, and guilt for what happened in Western Europen in the early 1940s.<br /><br />I think a lot of the malaise comes from the societal recollection of what happened to "those staggering toward slaughter."  I know:  It's hard and dangerous for me to judge the thoughts and motives of people from a different culture, from a different era, living under much different circumstances -- but celebrated Dutch historian Geert Mak has published much the same sentiments:  <em>"The war years were hard, the dilemmas sometimes almost irresolvable, and it befits generations that had no part in this period to be cautious in their judgment.  It has to be said, however, that this phase of Amsterdam's history offers little scope for self-congratulation.  Most Amsterdammers were anything but resistance fighters.  With their families they tried to avoid the perils of occupation as far as possible, and that was all... Despite the heroic work of some individuals, no form of resistance was such an abject failure as that against the deportation of the Jews... The guilt of the idle spectator still hovers like a cloud over the entire city."</em><br /><br />Hindsight, of course, is 20-20.  The real question is how are we going to do things differently in our day and age?  How can we follow the instruction of Proverbs 24:11, to "rescue those being led away to death" and take action on the instances of injustice and inequality of which we're all aware (albeit shoved all the way to the back of our consciousness)?<br /><br />There are two classic (and current) responses to these biblical imperatives to help the needy.<br /><br />The first classic Christian response is to assume that verses such as Proverbs 24:11 are talking purely (or at least primarily) about spiritually-needy people, who do not know or follow the God of the Bible and are effectively staggering off toward an eternity apart from God in spiritual darkness.  Practically speaking, the call-to-action in this response is to share the Good News of Jesus, verbally, with as many people as possible and keep returning every conversation to the centrality of our spiritual well-being.<br /><br />The second classic Christian response is to assume that verses such as Proverbs 24:11 are talking purely (or at least primarily) about physically-needy people, who are literally being victimized by genocide, slavery/human-trafficking, homelessness, poverty, famine, or any other type of social injustice in our world today.  Practically speaking, the call-to-action in this response is to organize protest rallies or public awareness campaigns, to volunteer in soup kitchens and homeless shelters, and so on.<br /><br />For some reason, people who tend to respond in the first way often find themselves arguing with people who tend to respond in the second way -- and vice-versa.  There's some kind of (usually unspoken) assumption that the two responses are mutually exclusive.  However, I would suggest from my reading of the Bible, that we need to keep a balanced perspective, trying to rescue <em>both </em>spiritually-needy <em>and </em>physically-needy people.  Because the fact of the matter is that both types of need are very real and very tragic.  They <em>all </em>fit the circumstances of Proverbs 24:11 and thus <em>all </em>deserve our consideration.<br /><br />So here's the real question:  Who do <em><span style="text-decoration: underline;">you</span> </em>know that might be currently staggering toward slaughter?  And what are you going to <em>do</em> about it?</p>

Do not be envious against an evil man. Wow. This is certainly something to think about. Lots of people I meet every single day are so envious about the Lamborghini, the mansion people have and the money the spend on themselves lavishly. But God is telling us not to be envious about others who love to show how much money they are worth. God certainly provide for our needs every day and we are so grateful. Being content with what we have is a precious gift and that is exactly what this verse is telling us. Our source of income and provider of our needs is Jesus and He will never fail us. Never.

Let us all pray for the peace of Israel. They really need Gods help and we ask Jesus to get them saved and that our eyes be towards heaven because we all are heading to Beulah land where there is no pain, no sorrow, no evil will befall those who trust Him and obey His commandments. Just like this wonderful verse says...My son, fear Yaweh..24.21  How can we fear God is we do not obey His word?  May my heart hunger after Thee Oh Lord, My life be offered as a sacrifice for your glory and honor. We are your vessels, we are your children. Hear us Oh Lord of hosts. To Thee I come, and meditate day and night. From eternity to eternity your name shall be glorified. All knees will bow down before your holy throne. In You alone I find my delight, my pleasure and joy everlasting. May your name ever be praised and honor. Amen

A riveting and compelling call to prayer shows you that your prayer life can be what God intends it to be. The child of God is driven to say, “I must pray, pray, pray. I must put all my energy and all my heart into prayer. Whatever else I do, I must pray.” This and other resources are now integrated into the Virtual Prayer Partner that you can interact with.
God of mercy, God of love, See how your people suffer. Come with a mighty power of love and compassion. Save the souls that are far away from you. Please Jesus give us you wisdom to do what is best for others who see our deeds daily receiving you as a companion and merciful father. We thank you for this word. You came to rescue us and gave us your word. Help us to keep in the depth of our hearts. Amen

If you sense that the Spirit of God is speaking to you.. then hear it and obey what He directs you. Let all your possesions be used for Gods glory and praise.  We are not the owners of anything on this earth. Everything belongs to Him. He has given us to be stwards and managers. Let all that you have be to the glory of the Lord.  Look, He is coming in the clouds.. and every eye will see Him, and all peoples of the earth. Revelation 1.7  This is really our future. To see Him coming in the clouds with a host of angels praising and glorifying Him. For He alone is worthy of all praise and honor.  So you will know wisdom, to be to your soul. If you have found it, then there will be a reward. 24.14  Lord Jesus, make a channel of your blessing today. So I will know wisdom from on high. To tell others about God and save souls for eternity. May my life and all my possesions be given to You because you are the owner of every single thing we have on this earth. May my service and my devotions be yours alone. In Jesus name. Amen

Please submit a request that we should be approved for our new home loan. We're trying to keep our family together. The only way for our family to stay together is for my brother to move into the new home to help me with my 24 yr old son who has end stage kidney failure.
