Proverbs, Chapter 19

19:1 Better is the poor who walks in his integrity Than he who is perverse in his lips and is a fool.

19:2 Also, without knowledge the soul is not good; And he who hurries with his feet sins.

19:3 The foolishness of man subverts his way; And his heart frets against Yahweh.

19:4 Wealth adds many companions; But the poor is separated from his companion.

19:5 A false witness will not be unpunished; And he who utters lies will not escape.

19:6 Many will entreat the favor of the liberal man; And every man is a companion to him who gives gifts.

19:7 All the brothers of the poor hate him: How much more do his friends go far from him! He pursues [them with] words, [but] they are gone.

19:8 He who gets wisdom loves his own soul: He who keeps understanding will find good.

19:9 A false witness will not be unpunished; And he who utters lies will perish.

19:10 Delicate living is not seemly for a fool; Much less for a slave to have rule over princes.

19:11 The discretion of man makes him slow to anger; And it is his glory to pass over a transgression.

19:12 The king's wrath is as the roaring of a lion; But his favor is as dew on the grass.

19:13 A foolish son is the calamity of his father; And the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping.

19:14 House and riches are an inheritance from fathers; But a prudent wife is from Yahweh.

19:15 Slothfulness casts into a deep sleep; And the idle soul will suffer hunger.

19:16 He who keeps the commandment keeps his soul; [but] he who is careless of his ways will die.

19:17 He who has pity on the poor lends to Yahweh, And his good deed he will pay him again.

19:18 Chasten your son, seeing there is hope; And don't set your heart on his destruction.

19:19 A man of great wrath will bear the penalty; For if you deliver [him], you must do it yet again.

19:20 Hear counsel, and receive instruction, That you may be wise in your latter end.

19:21 There are many devices in a man's heart; But the counsel of Yahweh, that will stand.

19:22 That which makes man to be desired is his kindness; And a poor man is better than a liar.

19:23 The fear of Yahweh, [leads] to life And he [who has it] will reside satisfied; He will not be visited with evil.

19:24 The sluggard buries his hand in the dish, And will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.

19:25 Strike a scoffer, and the simple will learn prudence; And reprove one who has understanding, [and] he will understand knowledge.

19:26 He who does violence to his father, and chases away his mother, Is a son who causes shame and brings reproach.

19:27 Cease, my son, to hear instruction [Only] to err from the words of knowledge.

19:28 A worthless witness mocks at justice; And the mouth of the wicked swallows iniquity.

19:29 Judgments are prepared for scoffers, And stripes for the back of fools.

Let us all lift our voices to God and praise Him for His mercy and His love endrureth forever.  Thank Him for His holy word given to us to learn more of His ways, more of His will and more of His holy presence in our lives.  Give glory to God above all things. He alone is worthy of all glory, praise and honor now and forever more.  Amen and amen.

Proverbs 19: 1  "Better is the poor who walks in his integrity than he who is perverse in his lips and is a fool."

I can imagine what the stuck-up, self-righteous rich man (called Davies by tradition) in Luke 16 thought to himself when he stepped over poor Lazarus laid at his gate seeking a crust of bread. "Why does the good-for-nothing deadbeat come to me? Why didn't he go out and get a job and set aside some cash like I did? Then he wouldn't be in such a fix. Stupid scum! He's getting no help from me. THAT'S for sure!"

As a poor man myself who spent 18 months homeless in a large American city once, I know from experience how people hate you--even your relatives (Proverbs 19: 7). In my case, I was a victim of the housing bubble prices that holding down two jobs couldn't cover. One of those jobs took a great deal of talent and years of experience. My Hong Kong landlords--who I was told inherited the property from their filthy rich father and never had to do any real work for a living--really cashed in. My case, at the educated and more compassionate know, was not unusual.

Too many people don't want to face any responsibility they may have for you--even the smallest--so they look for an "out." They blame the victim. "She was raped because of the red dress she wore!" or "He's homeless because he never worked!" Instead of showing some integrity and searching out the facts in a case, such people think in reverse. Assuming all is fair in life, they see a tragedy and look for some logic to justify their silly presumptions. Even Jesus was treated this way. "That Jesus fellow must have done something wrong or else they wouldn't have crucified him!" his fat critics probably chirped as they passed him on their way to market or some other worthless entertainment.

Such people think they are going somewhere but they are going the same way as the rich man who had enough religious training to call Abraham "Father!" and was likely a respected man in his local synagogue. Regardless of their religious profession--or maybe more because of it--such people are perverse in their lips and are complete fools!

There are many devices in mans heart.  Prov. 19.21a   If our devices are directed in the right direction Jesus will use all of them for His glory and honor.  Our talents for singing, teaching, sharing the gospel and everything else we have in store in our lives God can turn them all to be a blessing to others and to glorify His name.  Let us all us our devices for Jesus alone and He will bless us greatly.

Love this wonderful verse.  Chasten your son, seeing there is hope. Prov. 19.18a   Dear Jesus, bless our chldren. Keep them safe and secure under your wings.  Teach them Thy word.  Bless their Sunday school teacher and please use them all for your glory and honor.  Amen

The idle soul will suffer hunger.  Prov. 19.15b.  Keep working hard for the kingdom of God.  Jesus loves all His workers doing His will and He will provide them with whatever they need.  If you are out of a job, keep looking.  God wants to bless you.  Obey Gods word.

Whatever happens, wherever you go whatever you do remember this. God knows everything you do or think you are going to go. God is all you need in your life.  Without Him you are an orphan, a forgotten person and loneliness will come to you.

Also, without knowledge the soul is not good.   Prov. 19.2a  Let us all search the Scriptures for it is in there that we find true rest and the knowledge of what God wants us to for for the rest our lives on earth.
