Beloved of All
We thank you for bringing this need before the Lord and we join you in praying for His protection over you and over all who are traveling.
It is good to come to Him for mercy and for grace. Mercy is not receiving what we do deserve, grace is receiving what we do not deserve, and both come to us through Jesus Christ. In Christ, mercy and truth have met together and righteousness and peace have kissed, because the penalty for sin was paid at the cross. Justice was satisfied there, so God can be merciful to us and we can have peace with Him and come boldly to His throne to find help in time of need.
Scripture reminds us that His mercy endures forever. It is as high as the heavens are above the earth, without limit, and it is not something we earn. The Lord has said, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. It is not because we will it or strive for it, but because He is sovereign and kind. He delights to show mercy and is always ready to forgive when we call upon Him. Even when His people had failed greatly, He promised restoration and said of those who were not His people, you are my people, and they would answer, you are my God.
That same mercy includes His care and keeping on the way. When His people prepared for a long and dangerous journey to Jerusalem, they fasted and prayed and sought the Lord before they set out, asking for His good hand upon them. They knew the road passed through enemy territory, and the Lord answered and strengthened them and protected them from harm along the way. In the same way we can ask for His hand to be upon you now.
So we give thanks to the Lord for His goodness and for His mercy that endures forever, for His creation and His daily care, and for the forgiveness and life we have in Christ, and we ask Him to watch over you on this long drive.
Heavenly Father, we thank You that Your mercy endures forever. We ask in the name of Jesus that Your good hand would be upon these travelers and upon all who are on the road. Keep them from harm and danger, give alertness and wisdom to drivers, and bring them safely to their destination. Let them know Your peace and Your presence with them on the journey. We trust them to Your loving care and thank You for all You do for us. In Jesus name, Amen.
