Protection from a vicious resident

Anonymous

Beloved of All
Lord help me through my anxiety because of a resident in my building who is malicious and abusive. Pray that the Lord will work in het heart to leave me alone.

We hear your burden and we are lifting you up together before the Lord, asking for His protection and His peace over you in this difficult situation with this resident in your building. The Lord sees how you are being treated and He knows the anxiety this malicious and abusive behavior has caused you. He is your refuge and strength.

We are reminded that God does not want you to live in fear of man. Proverbs 29:25 says the fear of man proves to be a snare, but whoever puts his trust in Yahweh is kept safe. And Isaiah 41:10 says Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. When anxiety rises, we can cast it on Him because He cares for us, as 1 Peter 5:7 teaches, and we can bring everything to Him in prayer. Philippians 4:6-7 tells us In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Psalm 46:1 reminds us that God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble, and Psalm 91:1-2 says He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of Yahweh, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.

We also pray for this woman who is acting with malice toward you, because Jesus calls us to a higher way. Matthew 5:44 says But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you. We pray not only that the Lord would restrain her from harming you and cause her to leave you alone, but that He would work in her heart to bring conviction, repentance and even salvation. Romans 12:19 reminds us Don’t seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, Vengeance belongs to me, I will repay, says the Lord. And Romans 12:21 says Don’t be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. We encourage you not to return evil for evil, but to remain blameless before the Lord while also using wisdom. God has also given authorities for protection, and if you are threatened or harassed, it is right to document what happens and to seek help from building management or the proper authorities, for Romans 13:4 says the authority is a servant of God for your good.

You asked for the Lord’s help, and we want to gently remind you that it is through the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father and it is by His name alone that we are saved. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not already, we encourage you to put your full trust in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and to call upon His name in every need.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear one to You. Lord, You see the anxiety and the distress caused by this abusive resident, and we ask You to be a shield around them. Cover them with Your presence, guard their home and their coming and going, and let no weapon formed against them prosper. We ask You to calm their heart and mind with Your peace that surpasses all understanding, and to replace fear with faith, remembering 2 Timothy 1:7 that You have not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control. Lord, we also bring this woman before You. Soften her heart, convict her of her malice, turn her away from doing harm, and cause her to leave Your child alone. If it is Your will, bring her to repentance and to the knowledge of Jesus. Give our dear one wisdom to respond with grace and truth, to set godly boundaries, and to seek right help when needed. Let them feel Your nearness each day and know that You are their defender and deliverer. We ask all this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and our only hope, amen.

We are really glad you reached out about this. Feeling anxious when someone in your own building is acting malicious and abusive toward you is exhausting. Home is meant to be a place where you can rest, so it makes sense your nerves feel frayed when that safety feels threatened.

One thing that has helped others in similar close quarters is thinking about boundaries as a kind of property line. It helps clarify what is yours to carry and what is not, and it gives you permission to keep interactions brief and calm without feeling guilty for protecting your peace. That can also mean not trying to manage her heart on your own, but letting others help carry the practical side.

It may help to keep a simple private record of dates and what was said or done, keep exchanges short and neutral when you must pass in common areas, and let a trusted building manager or neighbor know what is happening so you are not facing it alone. If the anxiety is making it hard to sleep or your body feels constantly tense, it is also wise to talk with a pastor or counselor or your doctor alongside prayer.

Jesus, we lift our friend to You right now. Please surround them with Your protection and steady their anxious heart with Your peace. Give them wisdom for each interaction, provide safe support nearby, and work in this neighbor's heart toward leaving them alone. Guide them step by step as they seek help and rest. In Jesus' name, amen.

We have heard your prayer and we join with you in bringing this burden before the Lord who is our keeper and our peace.

You speak of anxiety because of one who is malicious and abusive where you live, and you ask that the Lord would work in her heart to leave you alone. It is right to seek the Lord for protection, for He alone can keep the heart quiet when sorrows are surging round and can restrain the hand of those who would do harm.

The Scripture says, You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. This perfect peace is not found in the absence of trouble, but in the presence of Christ. The blood of Jesus whispers peace within, and that peace may be enjoyed even in the ordinary circumstances of life and in the very place where you feel pressed and unsafe. It is the mind which is the main thing, it will bring you daylight or midnight, peace or war, and when the mind is stayed upon the Lord, He keeps it in peace, peace, a double peace that the world cannot give and cannot take away.

We know also that the very anxiety which arises through being in a difficulty unfits you to meet that difficulty. Therefore cast your care upon Him, for He cares for you. Bear your sorrow with Him and see what peace, what perfect peace, you will enjoy. Christ has left us peace in the conscience. Peace with God is the treaty made by His blood, and peace in the conscience is the publication of it. It is a peace which God the Father gives, a peace which Jesus Christ bought with His blood, for He is our peace, and a peace which the Holy Spirit works in the soul. There is no solid peace apart from Christ, and he that has Christ has a peace that passes all understanding.

Let us pray together.

O Lord our God, You are the God of peace and the God who sees all that Your child endures. We ask in the name of Jesus Christ alone, through whom alone we have peace with You, that You would grant perfect peace to this troubled heart. Stay the mind upon Yourself, quiet the anxiety, and let the peace of God which passes all understanding keep heart and mind through Christ Jesus. We ask for Your protection in that building, that You would restrain all malice and abuse, and set a hedge about Your child. Work, we pray, in the heart of this neighbor, turn her from malice, soften what is hard, and cause her to leave Your child alone. Where there is sin, bring conviction, where there is anger, bring restraint, and where there is need of repentance, grant it by Your grace. Give wisdom to know what steps to take for safety, give favor with those in authority if help is needed, and give courage to not be easily disheartened. Let this trial drive the soul nearer to Christ, to find in Him a present rest while doing Your will, and to know that in Jesus keeping we are safe. We ask this not because of any merit in us, but through the precious blood which has made full atonement, and through Jesus Christ our peace. Amen.

Continue to look to Christ, to trust Him day by day, and to seek Him first. His peace is a filling peace, a well founded peace, and He will not leave His own without comfort. May the Lord bless you with His own peace and keep you in it until earths struggles shall cease and He calls you to Heavens perfect peace.
