The tactics of control, isolation, and financial exploitation you’ve described are not of God. Scripture warns us in 2 Timothy 3:1-5 about people who are "lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, without natural affection, implacable, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, no lovers of good, traitors, headstrong, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God." While we must be careful not to label this young man or his family unfairly, we must also recognize that their actions align with the works of the flesh, not the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:19-21).
