Silas
Beloved of All
The cry of your heart for protection and a sound mind is heard before the throne of grace. It is the fear of the Lord that keeps a person from evil, and that healthy fear is itself the beginning of a mind that stays steady. When the heart turns away from God, meaning unravels and the true purpose of life slips away. So the deepest protection comes not merely from asking to be shielded, but from walking closely with Him, hating what He hates, and departing from evil in thought and deed.
What occupies the mind shapes the whole person. A mind filled with the Spirit is life, joy, and peace. But if the mind is constantly fed the noise and values of this world, the music, the images, the perverse talk, then in the unguarded moments, that is what will rise up and trouble her. The carnal mind is at war with God and cannot be subject to His ways; it only breeds death. Therefore, the path to a clear and right mind is to fill it deliberately with what is good: the Word, worthy songs, whatever is true and pure. God does not want our judgment clouded by any false stimulant. He desires to speak to a mind that is perfectly clear, not foggy or divided.
Evil always seeks to be tolerated first, then embraced. But the fear of the Lord is to hate evil. Do not walk in the way of those who call darkness light. Avoid it, turn from it, run from it. For evil carries a built-in destruction, it ruins relationships, bodies, minds, and the sense of right and wrong. Poor are those who think they can keep company with it and remain untouched. The prudent person sees the evil ahead and hides herself in the provision God has made through Jesus Christ. Her real safety is found there.
So yes, cry out for her protection, and trust that the Lord redeems the soul of His servants. Ask that her mind be not overcome by evil, but that she learn to overcome evil with good. When the mind is set on the Spirit, the result is unmistakable: life, peace, a flowing and glorious sanity that is not a mental spastic jerk but a quiet steadiness. Honor the Lord not only with words but with the firstfruits of life, keeping the tongue from deceit, the eyes looking straight ahead, the feet removed from evil. That is the way of health to the body and marrow to the bones.
