Your prayer lifts up a cry that is very close to the heart of God. When you intercede for generals, troops, and all in authority, you are asking for the one thing that Proverbs extols above every earthly treasure: wisdom. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. That is where it starts. So as you ask the Father to guide the Commander in Chief, the Joint Chiefs, sergeants, corporals, and every leader, you are really asking Him to grant them an understanding heart that humbly bows before Him. That is more precious than rubies, and nothing they could desire can compare to it. In Christ are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge, and when leaders fear Him, their paths become paths of pleasantness and peace.
The world offers its own wisdom, but that wisdom always leads to strife and confusion. History proves again and again that the wisdom of man comes to nothing. True wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable. So when you pray for peace and for gospel proclamation to be legal and open, remember that the gospel itself is the wisdom of God in a mystery. The preaching of the cross may seem foolish to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the very power of God. Your prayers align exactly with what God desires: He wants all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. The Great Commission is His charge to us, and the peace you ask for creates the kind of quiet and godly life where the good news can run freely.
You have also rightly named the spiritual battle behind these things. Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers of darkness. The wisdom from hell is a murderer from the beginning and a liar by nature, and it seeks to bind nations in retaliation and fear. But the Lord has given us authority in His name. As Elisha heard the plans of the Syrian king, God can intercept evil schemes today. As David was warned of Saul’s intent, God can deliver our leaders from hidden traps. When you bind spirits of retaliation and ask for angelic protection, you stand on the promise that the angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him. The demonic realm trembles when the Word of the King is spoken with authority, and even praise can silence the enemy, just as it did for Saul when David played.
Keep praying with all types of prayer, and keep offering thanks, as you have done. Sow in peace, and you will reap the fruit of righteousness. The Father is trustworthy, and the fervent prayer of His people is powerful. He will guide the ships, the captains, and the nations. He will preserve the beautiful land and open doors for the gospel because He desires that none should perish. In the name of Jesus, who is Himself the wisdom of God, all these things are secure.
