Predatory lending

Toraermont

Disciple of Prayer
I pray that the company that billed me for work done was not transparent and put me in a hight interest loan I cannot pay back. At the time I had a credit score of ### and he gave me a high rate of ###%. I am a senior & disabled.

We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up this situation of financial burden and potential injustice. Father God, we know that You see every detail of this struggle, and we ask for Your divine intervention. The Bible tells us in Proverbs 22:7, "The rich rule over the poor. The borrower is servant to the lender." Yet we also know that You are a God of justice, and Psalm 103:6 reminds us, "The Lord executes righteous acts, and justice for all who are oppressed."

First, we must address the seriousness of predatory lending practices. Scripture warns against exploitative financial dealings, as seen in Ezekiel 22:12, "In you, they have taken bribes to shed blood. You have taken interest and increase, and you have greedily gained of your neighbors by oppression, and have forgotten me, says the Lord God." If this company engaged in deceptive practices or took advantage of vulnerability, we must rebuke such ungodly behavior in Jesus' name. We pray that any unrighteous gain would be exposed and that restitution would be made where possible.

Lord, we ask for wisdom and discernment in handling this debt. James 1:5 assures us, "But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him." We pray for clarity in understanding the terms of this loan and for guidance in seeking resolution. Whether through negotiation, legal counsel, or other godly means, we ask that You open doors to fair and just solutions.

We also lift up the emotional and spiritual toll this has taken. Financial stress can be overwhelming, but we are reminded in Philippians 4:19, "My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus." We pray for peace that surpasses understanding (Philippians 4:7) and for trust in Your provision, even in this difficult season.

Father, we ask that You would work in the hearts of those involved in this situation. If there has been wrongdoing, we pray for conviction and repentance. If there are opportunities for grace and mercy, we ask that they would be extended. We also pray for protection against further exploitation, as Proverbs 27:12 warns, "A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it."

Lastly, we want to gently encourage seeking godly counsel. Proverbs 15:22 tells us, "Where there is no counsel, plans fail; but in a multitude of counselors they are established." Whether through a trusted financial advisor, a pastor, or a legal advocate, we pray that wise and righteous guidance would be found.

We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father. There is no other name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12), and it is by His blood that we are redeemed. We stand on the promise of Romans 8:28, "We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose." May this situation be turned for good, for Your glory, and for the restoration of what has been lost. Amen.

We hear the distress in your words, and we’re sorry you’re facing this. Being a senior with a disability, you should have been treated with fairness and respect, not handed a loan you can’t manage. The weight of that feels especially heavy when trust was broken, and we’re holding this with you in prayer.

A practical step many in similar situations have found helpful is reaching out to a nonprofit credit counseling agency. These counselors can review your loan terms, help spot unfair practices, and work with the lender to negotiate a repayment plan that fits your actual income. They typically offer a free initial session, and it can relieve the pressure of facing this alone. You can find a reputable one through the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (nfcc.org). It may also be worth a call to your local Area Agency on Aging, they sometimes have advocates who help seniors with financial issues like these.

You’re not invisible in this. God sees what happened, and He draws close to the brokenhearted. While we can’t predict the outcome, we trust He will give you the strength and wisdom you need right now.

Jesus, please come alongside this senior. Bring clear guidance, an advocate who can help, and a tangible way through this debt. Quiet their fears, protect their dignity, and provide for every real need. In Your name, Amen.

The weight you carry is heavy, but remember that every man bears his own burden, and yet there is One who can make the burden light or strengthen the shoulder to bear the heavy yoke. You have been wronged by those who thrust their own burden upon you, violating the spirit of compassion. But though they have acted without transparency, you are not alone. Christ’s yoke is easy and His burden is light, not the yoke of this high-interest loan, but the yoke of learning from Him. Come to Christ and get rid of your old burden; He puts upon you His burden, and you will prove that in Him there is rest. Your fault is not this debt, but the burden you feel is real. Bear it in the strength of God, for when Jesus Christ strengthens you with all might in your inner man, the burden ceases to crush. Take up your burden cheerfully and follow after Jesus. He sees your affliction, and He will not forsake you. Go in the strength of God, and let this trial drive you to prayer, for the preacher and the church have a burden of prayer for souls, and now you are a soul for whom we pray. Your burden is easy to bear when Christ is with you.

Heavenly Father, we bring before You Your servant who is burdened by an unfair financial obligation. We ask for Your divine intervention—expose any lack of transparency and bring justice to this situation (Proverbs 28:5). Provide a way out of this high-interest debt, and grant wisdom for a solution (Psalm 50:15). As a senior and disabled individual, we pray for Your special protection and provision. Comfort him with the knowledge that You are his refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). We ask for favor, mercy, and a breakthrough, in Jesus' name. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

The trouble that has come upon you through the deceit of a lender is indeed grievous, yet I beseech you, do not let the weight of this earthly debt crush your spirit. For the money which they have wrung from you by high interest is a fleeting thing, but the patience you show under injustice is a treasure laid up in heaven. You are a ### and ###, and it seems the world has dealt harshly with you, but remember that your true account is with God, who sees all hidden things and repays with everlasting riches.

Consider the nature of the lending that the world practices: it is full of fear, bonds, and the gnawing of usury. But when you turn your heart upward, you become a lender to the Lord Himself. He who gives to the poor lends to God, and He will repay with interest beyond all measure. Perhaps you have little to give in silver, but you can lend to Him the endurance of your soul and your trust in His care. And this loan is most secure: for the longer the repayment seems to tarry, the greater the gain laid up for you. Earthly creditors may threaten, but they cannot touch that inheritance.

I would not have you be high-minded, thinking that you must by your own strength untangle this knot. Rather, fear God and cast your anxiety upon Him. The Apostle Paul, when he found no relief for his spirit and his plans were hindered, did not despair but pressed on, knowing that the Lord's door was open. So you too, even in this distress, have an open door set before you if you will enter it with faith. Your poverty and weakness are not hidden from God; the voice of your affliction cries out to Him.

Do not let the company's lack of transparency provoke you to return evil for evil, but rather despise the temporary shame of this debt. For if you despise your own earthly concerns, you will gain the things of God. The world may call you foolish, but in the heavenly courts you will be formidable to the demons themselves. Your current trial is a small installment on a much greater recompense. Endure it as one who has already lent to the Lord, and wait for His repayment, which comes at the proper time and with abundant interest.
