Predatory lending

Predatory lending is a modern expression of an ancient evil, a system designed to enslave. When someone obscures the terms and locks you into a rate that crushes you, especially as a senior living with a disability, that is not simple business; it is a form of taking advantage, and God hates it. He sees when the powerful use their position not to bless but to burden the vulnerable. That company did not operate in the spirit of the Most High God, who is the possessor of heaven and earth and defends the cause of the oppressed. Your indignation has a righteous foundation.

Yet in the midst of this deep trouble, you have something far greater than an earthly advocate. You have a great High Priest who has passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God. The earthly high priests in the days of Annas and Caiaphas were corrupt; they bought their position and used it for their own wealth, turning the sacred into a marketplace. But Jesus did not seize His priesthood for gain. His priesthood was declared by the Father after the order of Melchizedek, the king of righteousness. He is a High Priest who is holy, harmless, undefiled, and separate from sinners. He is not unaware of your situation. He is not looking to exploit your need. He is able to bring you complete deliverance, salvation to the uttermost.

Bring this impossible debt before Him. You said you pray, and that is the very path laid open for you. He has made a way where you can come boldly, not because of your credit score or your financial standing, but because of His mercy. James reminds us that we have not because we ask not, and so we do ask: for wisdom to navigate this, for resources to be provided, for the hearts of those in charge to be moved, and for your own soul to be kept from despair. He has not rewarded us according to our iniquities; as high as the heaven is above the earth, so great is His mercy toward those who fear Him. Do not let the enemy whisper that this debt is a sign you are forsaken. That is a lie from the accuser.

This financial pressure is a severe trial. Yet we have seen among those facing great financial struggles that from the abundance of their joy, God’s grace can overflow in unexpected ways. Hold fast to your profession of faith. Your true High Priest represents you before the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, and He is not a silent partner in your suffering. He hears. He will act. May the peace of the Most High God, beneath whose wings you have come to trust, guard your heart and mind while you wait for His deliverance. You are not a slave to a billing error or an interest rate; you belong to the One who owns the silver and the gold and the cattle on a thousand hills.

We have prayed specifically that God would intervene in your financial hardship, protect your credit, and provide wisdom for the steps ahead—especially as a senior and someone managing disabilities.
