Your prayer for rain has been heard and we have joined with you in bringing it before the throne of grace. The Lord who formed the heavens and the earth holds the clouds in His hand, and not a drop falls without His appointment. He who sent the early and the latter rain upon Israel is still the same faithful God, and we may ask Him with confidence, yet with submission to His wise and sovereign will.
We understand the trial that this dry and hot season has brought upon you, with the ground shrinking and the very walls and floorboards of your house showing the strain. Such things naturally awaken anxiety, and as we have often learned, the very anxiety which arises through being in a difficulty unfits us to meet that difficulty. Your part is to do what is right and needful before the Lord, to care for your household with prudence, and then to leave the result with God, for that is His business. He has taught His people from their youth, and He continues to teach us to trust not in ourselves but in His almighty grace and providence.
Let us pray together. O God, our Father, who causes the sun to shine and the rain to fall according to Your good pleasure, we come in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, through whose blood alone we have access to Your mercy. Look in compassion upon this dry land and upon this home which feels the burden of the drought. If it be Your will, send refreshing rain to heal and restore the ground, to relieve those who are weary with heat, and to show Your kindness to Your creation. Give peace to this anxious heart, and teach a calm reliance upon Your promise that You will withhold no good thing from those who walk uprightly. Whether You send rain at once or tarry for a season, help Your servant to trust that Your promise never fails, even when it seems to tarry. Keep this household in safety, provide for every need, and draw the heart nearer to Christ, in whom alone is salvation. We ask this in the precious name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
