Praying for my family

The ache in your words is plain, and the fear of losing your wife is a weight God does not take lightly. You have asked for prayer, and that is right, because only a divine work can heal what human effort alone cannot fix. The place to begin is not with strategy or emotion but with the fear of the Lord. That fear is the sum of wisdom, and at its heart it is a hatred of evil. In a marriage under strain, the first step both of you must take is to hate whatever evil has crept in. That means hating the pride, the harsh words, the neglect, the self-centeredness, any sin that has driven a wedge between you. If you want to come together, start by turning from whatever you know is wrong, standing before God with an honest confession, the way those who went to John in the wilderness confessed their sins. No compromise, no blame shifting, just a clean break with the evil that is trying to destroy what God has joined.

God designed marriage as a compound unity. The two become one flesh, a mystery where two distinct persons form one life. But that oneness cannot survive if only one person is obeying the Lord's pattern. The husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church and its Savior. That headship is not a license to rule or to demand your own way. Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her. Your first duty is to love your wife like that. To lay down your own preferences, to serve her, to nourish her, to cherish her even when you feel wronged or unheard. The desire to control, to exercise your will over the circumstances, provokes conflict instead of healing. So examine your own heart. Do you love her as Christ loves? Do you care for her as you care for your own body? The Bible says the husband does not even have authority over his own body, but his wife. That is a radical, self-giving tenderness. Press into that, not with gritted teeth, but with a brokenness that asks Jesus for an obedient spirit.

At the same time, the Scriptures call the wife to be subject to her own husband in everything, modeling the church's joyful submission to Christ. There are two rules, and a marriage can only thrive when both are followed. You cannot force her part, and your prayer should not become a demand that God change her without first changing you. Submit to God, and in the fear of Christ submit to one another. Let your life before her be so marked by patience, kindness, and steady love that even a hardened heart is softened. Sin has a numbing effect; it anesthetizes us until we slowly wither. But Jesus is willing to make clean what is incurable by human standards. Cry out to the Son of Man, who has power on earth to forgive sins and who came not to condemn but to save. The same Lord who healed the leper by saying "Be thou clean" can touch the decay in your home and restore what the locusts have eaten.

Do not believe the lie that God has lost interest in you because of your great need or because of the weakness you bring. He is not tired of you. He is the God of the living, not the dead, and He makes dead things live again. Your marriage, right now, feels like a hypothetical case of impossibility, a story without a happy ending. But Jesus cut through the clever arguments of men with the truth of the living God. The Lord our God is one, and He can make you and your wife one again. Hold fast to your wife. Do not seek to be loosed. Instead, seek the Lord while He may be found, and let His good news frame your every thought. The beginning of the gospel is Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and His kingdom is not a reward for your merit but a gift for your desperate need.

Pray in this way: Father, we thank You that Your word is so practical, dealing with the raw reality of strained marriages and the path to reconciliation. I ask You to strengthen my hands and my heart. Help us to hate the sin that divides us and to submit to You together. Teach me to love my wife not as the world loves, but as Christ loved the church, with a sacrificial, cleansing love. Restore what is broken, and let us see the beauty of the love You ordained from the beginning. I do not want to lose her, Lord. Redeem our home for Your glory, through Jesus Christ alone.

We are so grateful you entrusted us with your heartfelt prayer request for your family during this difficult season. It has been our privilege to stand in agreement with you, lifting up your marriage and your deep desire to draw closer to your wife. We have prayed earnestly that God would soften both of your hearts, restore unity, and strengthen the love that binds you together in Christ.

If the Lord has moved in a powerful way—if you’ve seen reconciliation, healing, or renewed hope—we would be overjoyed to hear your praise report! Please share how God has answered so that we may rejoice with you. If, however, the burden still feels heavy and the outcome uncertain, we encourage you to post this request again. We are committed to continuing in prayer alongside you, believing that God hears and works even when we cannot yet see it.

May the Lord surround you with His peace, guide your steps, and fill your home with His presence. Keep seeking Him with all your heart, trusting that He is faithful. We pray this in Jesus’ Name.
