Praying for husbands corrupted mind

Disciple of Prayer
Please pray for our marriage, my husband is a porn addict/ alcoholic. He keeps on checking nude pictures and prostitute sites, he emotionally detached from our marriage. Please pray for my family, my marriage. May God keep Him away from temptation and may he restore our marriage

We hear the pain and burden in your request and we are standing with you in prayer for your marriage and your family. We grieve with you over the sin that has entered your home, for what you describe is not a small struggle but a serious bondage that is wounding your covenant before God.

We must speak the truth in love about what your husband is doing. Looking at nude pictures and seeking out prostitute sites is not harmless, it is sexual immorality and adultery of the heart. Jesus said in Matthew 5:28 that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart. Scripture also says in Hebrews 13:4 that marriage is to be held in honor among all, and the bed undefiled, but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers, and in 1 Corinthians 6:18 to flee sexual immorality, for every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. His drunkenness is also sin that opens the door to further darkness, for Ephesians 5:18 says do not be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit, and 1 Peter 5:8 warns us to be sober and self-controlled because our adversary the devil walks around like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. His emotional detachment from you violates God's calling for a husband in Ephesians 5:25 to love his wife even as Christ also loved the church and gave himself up for her. We rebuke this corrupted pattern of lust and drunkenness and we pray that he will come to see it as God sees it, not as a private habit but as sin that must be repented of.

We also want to gently point out that you asked that God would keep him from temptation and restore your marriage, but you did not mention the name of Jesus Christ. We want to remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we are saved and our prayers are heard. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, and Acts 4:12 says there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If your husband and your family have not yet fully surrendered to Jesus as Lord, we pray that you both will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, for Romans 10:9 promises that you will be saved. It is through repentance and faith in Christ alone that his mind can truly be made new.

We believe God is able to restore what sin has broken, but restoration requires repentance, accountability and a renewed mind. Romans 12:2 calls us to be transformed by the renewing of your mind, and Psalm 51:10 cries create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. We pray that your husband will take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ as taught in 2 Corinthians 10:5 and that he will flee temptation as 1 Corinthians 10:13 promises that God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. He must choose that way of escape, which means turning off the devices, cutting off access, confessing to godly men, and pursuing sobriety.

For you, our sister, we encourage you to remain steadfast in prayer and in the Word, to guard your own heart, and to seek wise godly counsel from your pastor or elders. Do not carry this burden alone. James 5:16 tells us to confess our sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. You may need to set loving but firm boundaries that do not enable his sin while still honoring your marriage covenant. God hates divorce as Malachi 2:16 shows, and He desires reconciliation where there is true repentance, and we will pray with you for that godly restoration rather than separation.

We now pray together for you, your husband, and your family.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, and we thank You that we can approach Your throne of grace through Him. We lift up this wife who is hurting and we ask You to comfort her, strengthen her, and guard her heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Give her wisdom, courage, and peace that surpasses understanding as she walks through this valley. We lift up her husband to You and we ask You to convict him deeply of his sin, to bring him to godly sorrow that leads to repentance. Break the chains of pornography, lust, and alcohol in his life, Lord. Cleanse his mind and wash him with the blood of Jesus. Create in him a clean heart and renew a right spirit within him. Help him to flee sexual immorality and drunkenness and to turn to You with his whole heart. Deliver him from every temptation and teach his hands to war against the schemes of the enemy. Restore to this marriage the love, honor, purity and emotional closeness that You designed from the beginning. Let this husband love his wife as Christ loves the church, with sacrifice and tenderness and faithfulness. Protect this family, heal the wounds that have been caused, and let Your will be done in this home. We ask that both husband and wife would draw near to You and be filled with Your Spirit. We pray all of this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, amen.

We encourage you to continue to pray without ceasing, to fast as the Lord leads you, to keep your eyes on Christ, and to trust that God is able to make all things new for those who repent and obey Him.

We are so sorry for the pain you are carrying. Watching your husband pulled toward pornography, alcohol and prostitute sites while feeling him grow distant emotionally is exhausting and lonely, and we are grateful you reached out for prayer for your family and marriage.

What you describe is so common with these struggles. They tend to thrive in secrecy and to take priority over everything else, which is why the emotional detachment you feel is so painful and not just about willpower. That does not remove responsibility, but it does mean lasting change rarely happens alone and often needs steady, outside support.

If you do not already have someone walking with you, we encourage you to invite one safe, wise person into what you are carrying. That could be a pastor or a Christian counselor you trust, and for the alcohol and sexual behaviors a counselor or recovery support experienced with addiction can be an important help alongside prayer. You do not need to monitor or fix him yourself, and having support for you matters too, for wisdom, boundaries and care as you seek what is healthy and faithful next.

We also encourage you to reach out for personal support right away if you ever feel unsafe or overwhelmed at home.

Father, we lift this wife and her family to You in Jesus name. Bring comfort to her heart, wisdom for each next step and protection over her home. Work in her husband to turn from what is harming him and his marriage, give him a hunger for truth and help, and surround them both with godly support. Restore what has been broken as You lead them forward. Amen.

Your burden has been brought before the Lord and we join our hearts with yours in prayer for your husband, for yourself and for your family.

We hear the heaviness of this trial. A corrupted mind given to strong drink and to the seeking after nude images and harlots is a grievous sin against the holy God and against the covenant of marriage. Holy Scripture teaches that marriage is not a light bond but a covenant in which husband and wife become one, cemented by mutual love and choice, and that the purity of that union is to be guarded as a sacred thing. To give the heart to pornography and to the thought of prostitution is to break that oneness and to stain the garments which should be kept white before the Lord. We cannot ask God to bless such sin, but we do with all earnestness ask Him to convict of it, to bring repentance, and to cleanse and deliver.

You have prayed rightly, May God keep him away from temptation and may He restore our marriage. That is the very prayer our Lord taught us, Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the Evil One. Temptation in itself is a thing very dangerous, though God may bring great benefit out of it when we are tried. It is right for the Christian to pray, Oh, save me from the mischief of the temptation. Let me not stain my garments. Let me not slip nor slide, but may I stand fast. Your husband needs such deliverance, for a man never gets anything out of the devil, even if he conquers him, and the path he is walking leads only to further detachment and death of affection.

Remember also that solemn word, the man who prays Lead us not into temptation and then goes into temptation is a liar before God. He must not go where temptation is to be found and expect the Lord to keep him while he seeks it out. He must turn from the sites, the images, the drink, the places and devices that feed this appetite, and hate the temptation itself. A man may be tempted and yet hate the temptation, and then there is no sin in the being tempted, but when he yields and pursues it, he stains his soul. Pray that God would give him such a hatred of this sin that he will put it away and flee from it as from a serpent.

Yet we do not leave you without hope. We have before us the fall and restoration of Peter. Peter was down, but he was soon up again, and the story is rather his restoration than his fall. The Lord had prayed for him before the temptation, for He foresaw all the danger in which he would be placed, and He exercised His office as High Priest and Intercessor. So He prays now for those who are His. That look of Christ severed Peter from the crowd and brought him to bitter weeping and then to full restoration, till the Lord Himself gave him abundant assurance and the threefold charge to feed His sheep. So we pray that the Lord would give your husband such a look, that the crowing of conscience and the glance of Christ would cut him to the heart, bring him to speedy repentance, and restore him not only to duty but to love.

And for you, dear soul who watches and suffers, we pray that you may be kept from the temptations that attend such sorrow, from bitterness, from despair, from condemning harshly. Remember yourself, lest you also be tempted, and pray again and again, Lead us not into temptation. The child of God under temptation, behaving herself grandly, will become a standing example to those around her. As you have heard of the patience of Job, so may your patience under this sifting be sustained by grace, and may you be able to strengthen your husband when he is restored, as Peter did when he was converted and strengthened his brethren.

Let us pray together. O Lord, our Father, look in mercy upon this marriage and this family. Thou knowest the snare of the evil one and the power of strong drink and unclean lust. Lead this husband not into temptation, but deliver him from the Evil One. Give him eyes to see the sin as Thou seest it, a heart to hate it, feet to flee from it, and a will to walk in purity. Sever him from the crowd that draws him away, speak to him as Thou didst to Peter, and bring him to true repentance through Jesus Christ alone, in whom alone is salvation. Restore, we beseech Thee, the love and oneness of this marriage as Thou hast ordained it, one man and one woman in lifelong covenant. Sustain this wife, keep her from fainting, fill her with wisdom and tender firmness, and keep this family under the shadow of Thy wing. We ask not that sin should be blessed, but that sin should be forgiven and forsaken, and that this home should be made whole for Thy glory. Hear us for Jesus sake. Amen.
