Praying for friends

Anonymous

Beloved of All
Old and new, Lord please open mighty miracle doors and for true godly friendships and for close ones as well, this new one that I invited for a walk or something doesn't even bother responding, praying for their Salvation and conviction that Jesus would lead and guide to those that would be safe to interact with or work to me and through me to reach the lost, God please open mighty miracle doors. Amen

We join you in bringing this heartfelt desire for true, godly friendships before the Lord together in Jesus' name, and we thank you for sharing this burden with us. It is a good and biblical desire to seek close, faithful friends who will walk with you in Christ, and we know the Lord cares deeply about the community He places around us.

The scripture teaches us what true friendship looks like. Proverbs 18:24 says, A man of many companions may be ruined, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. And Proverbs 27:17 says, Iron sharpens iron; so a man sharpens his friend's countenance. God does not want us isolated nor surrounded by casual acquaintances only, but knit together with brothers and sisters who will sharpen us, encourage us, and spur us on toward love and good works. We also remember the words of Jesus in John 15:13-15, Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends, if you do whatever I command you. Jesus Himself is our greatest and most faithful friend, and He models for us the selfless, loyal love we are to both seek and show.

We understand the discouragement when you reach out in kindness, as with the new person you invited for a walk, and receive no response. Please do not let your heart be troubled by this silence. The Lord sees your effort and your heart to connect, and He is sovereign over every open and closed door. Revelation 3:8 reminds us, Behold, I have set before you an open door, which no one can shut. We trust that God will open mighty miracle doors in His perfect timing that no man can close, and He will also graciously close doors that are not for your good or protection. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don't lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. He will guide you to those who are safe to interact with and to those He wants you to reach.

We also rejoice that your heart is not only for your own companionship but for the salvation of others and to be used to reach the lost. This is the heart of Christ. We are called to be discerning about our closest fellowship, for 1 Corinthians 15:33 says, Don't be deceived. Evil companionships corrupt good morals, yet we are also called to go out with love to the lost as Jesus did. Matthew 5:16 says, Even so, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

We pray together for you now.

Father, we come before You in the precious name of Jesus, thanking You that You are a friend who never leaves us nor forsakes us. We lift up our dear fellow believer to You and ask that You open mighty miracle doors for true, godly, close friendships, both old and new. Bring into their life faithful brothers and sisters who love You, who will sharpen them as iron sharpens iron, who will bear burdens and speak truth in love. Heal any sting of rejection from the unanswered invitation and help them to not grow weary in doing good. Guide their steps and guard their heart, leading them clearly to those who are safe and edifying, and away from those who would be harmful. We pray for the salvation of their friends and of the one who did not respond, that Your Holy Spirit would bring conviction and draw them to Jesus, for there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved. Use our friend mightily as Your vessel, working in them and through them to reach the lost with the gospel, with boldness and grace. May they delight themselves in You first, trusting Your promise in Psalm 37:4 that You will give them the desires of their heart as they seek You. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, Amen.

We hear how deeply you long for real, godly friendship, both to keep the good connections you have and to find new ones where you can be known and be safe. It hurts when you reach out, like inviting someone for a walk, and hear nothing back. That silence can feel personal, even when it often is not, and we are grateful you brought it to the Lord instead of holding it alone.

One thing we have seen help when loneliness lingers is to lean into places where the same people gather again and again. Friendships usually grow less from a single invitation and more from steady proximity and small, honest sharing over time. If you have a church, small group, or regular serving opportunity, staying present there week after week can give those natural connections room to form. It also helps to keep praying as you are, asking Jesus to show you who is safe and who is open to Him, and to work through you to reach others, while you keep the door open for Him to bring the right people in His timing.

Father, we lift our friend to You and ask You to open the doors only You can open. Bring trustworthy, godly friendships, old and new, and give wisdom to recognize them. We pray for those who do not yet know You, that You would draw them to Yourself, and guide our friend toward relationships that are safe and life giving. Fill the lonely places with Your nearness and hope today. In Jesus name, amen.

Your longing for true and godly friendships is itself a gracious sign that the Lord has wrought a good work in you, for the heart that loves Christ longs for the fellowship of those who love Him too. It is right and good to pray that the Lord would open doors which no man can shut, and guide you to those with whom you may walk safely and in holiness, and through whom He may also make you a blessing to the lost.

Do not be greatly cast down because one whom you invited for a walk has not responded. Our blessed Savior knows this very sorrow. He was left alone just when most, as Man, He needed human sympathy, and therein He has consecrated the lonely path for His people. Sometimes the child of God endures loneliness arising from the absence of godly society, and at other times he feels the keen pain of being overlooked or forgotten by those he would befriend. In such seasons remember that Divine Providence is not put under your supervision, but under His who orders all things well. You may safely leave the ordering of your friendships with Him who knows the grandeur of His own character and will not suffer one hard thought against His faithfulness to stand.

It is a precious thing to desire plain, holy, godly living and to seek companions who will help you therein. Such friends are worth more than all the world besides, for they strengthen you in the immortal principles of the Divine Life which comes from the death of Christ. Bind them continually upon your heart when God gives them, and while you wait, keep close to Christ Himself. He is the Second Person of the Divine Trinity made visible to men, and His presence is the one hope of the people of God. Where He is, difficulties dissolve, and even the systems of error and the coldness of this world flow down like glaciers in the summer sun.

Continue then to pray as you have prayed, for the salvation and conviction of those around you, both old friends and new. Who can tell what blessings God gives to unconverted men because of the prayers of their converted friends who hedge them about. Plead that the Divine Spirit will still display His power over the most unlikely persons to the glory of His grace, for He can save the most obstinate and bring opposers to the feet of Jesus. And ask that the Lord would make you faithful to reach the lost, not by fine words alone, but by a consistent and godly life which makes others aspire to know your Savior and cry, O that my ways were directed to keep His statutes.

Let us pray together. O Lord our God, we thank Thee that Thou art sovereign and that Thy hand is in all things. Thou knowest the loneliness of Thy servant and the desire for true and godly fellowship. Open, we beseech Thee, those miracle doors which Thou alone canst open, and lead to safe and holy friendships which will build up faith and keep the heart from sin. Work conviction and salvation in those who yet know Thee not, and let Thy Divine Presence be manifest to dissolve every difficulty. Make Thy servant to be kept close to Christ, content to be alone with Him if need be, and yet ready to be used of Thee to reach the lost. Grant confidence in Thy faithfulness, that trembling at Thy greatness we may yet rest in strong confidence in Thy love, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
