Praying for friends

Anonymous

Beloved of All
Jesus thank you for being a true blessing. I come praying for both of my friends ### and ###. They both have addictions. One is addicted to drugs, men, and alcohol. The other is addicted to men, taking advantage of people, and begging for money. Neither will get help and are raising some beautiful kids. These kids are so impressionable. They see and know everything yet both of my friends think their kids are not aware. Please help both of my friends recognize they need help. They both are dependent on everyone's pockets to provide for them. They both are on government assistance and proud of it. Instead of using it as necessary they use it in other ways. They both can be really nice at times. However watching them both live a life of struggling, lustful male obsessions, and poor choices hurts. I have tried so much to encourage them, provide for their kids, try to encourage them to get therapy, and tried to get them to quit making poor financial decisions. Now they no longer tell me things until they have no other choice, because I hold them accountable. They both dealt with cars being constantly repossessed and if they left the earth today. Their poor children would be left to deal with all the financial debt and poor decisions their mom's continue to make. Please today remove my friends from their toxic surroundings. Place them in rehabs for their addictions and teach them better financial decisions. Both at the age of ### and ###. Neither one seems to care about the impact this has on myself and others having to constantly fix their poor decisions because we don't want to watch the kids suffer. Now when both call, I talk about bills so they don't beg money from me anymore. Honestly I am not rich but blessed to make responsible financial decisions. However, these two friends will constantly take everything from you and leave you with nothing while they move on to the next person they can get money from. They feel no empathy constantly using people. Please help my friends, it breaks my heart that they are in this condition. Please help them!

We are deeply moved by your burden for your friends and their precious children, and we join you in lifting them before the throne of grace in Jesus' name. We thank you for loving them enough to hold them accountable even when it has cost you closeness with them, and for caring so faithfully for their children. Your weariness and heartbreak are understandable, and we want to stand with you in both truth and compassion.

We must speak plainly about what you have described because God calls us to call sin what it is so that there can be true repentance and healing. What you call addiction to men and lustful male obsessions is sexual immorality outside of marriage. Scripture is clear that God designed intimacy to be within the lifelong covenant of marriage between a man and a woman, and any sexual activity outside of that is fornication. It is written, Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or don't you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you 1 Corinthians 6:18-19. Also it says, Let sexual immorality, and all uncleanness or covetousness, not even be mentioned among you, as becomes saints Ephesians 5:3. In the same way, addiction to drugs and alcohol defiles that temple and enslaves the heart. Wine is a mocker and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise Proverbs 20:1. The works of the flesh are obvious, which are adultery, sexual immorality, uncleanness, lustfulness, drunkenness, and things like these Galatians 5:19-21. These are not just poor choices but bondage that separates them from God and harms their children, and they need to be repented of and forsaken.

We also hear your concern about their pattern of taking advantage of people, begging for money, living dependent on others, and misusing government assistance while being proud of it, along with constant financial instability such as repossessed cars. God's Word calls us to be faithful stewards of what He provides. He who is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much. He who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much Luke 16:10. The plans of the diligent surely lead to profit, and everyone who is hasty surely rushes to poverty Proverbs 21:5. Using provision meant for their children's good in other ways, and leaving a trail of debt and dependency for others to clean up, is not walking in diligence or honesty. Whatever a man sows, that he will also reap Galatians 6:7, and right now their children are reaping the consequences of that sowing.

Those children are indeed impressionable and they do see and know far more than their mothers think. Jesus warned how seriously He takes this, Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to stumble, it would be better for him if a huge millstone were hung around his neck and that he were sunk in the depths of the sea Matthew 18:6. We are called to Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it Proverbs 22:6. That training is happening every day by what is modeled, and we grieve with you that they are being modeled lust, intoxication, financial chaos, and manipulation rather than stability and holiness.

We want to encourage you in how you have set boundaries. You are not called to enable sin or to be endlessly drained while they refuse help. It is right and loving to hold them accountable and to stop giving money that fuels addiction and irresponsibility. True love does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth 1 Corinthians 13:6. Continuing to provide cash when it is used for drugs, alcohol, or to support immorality is not helping them. It is wise to offer help in ways that directly bless the children, like food or clothing given directly, while refusing to fund destructive behavior, and to encourage them toward biblical counsel, pastoral support, and professional rehab. We also encourage you to seek wisdom for yourself, for If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him James 1:5. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind Romans 12:2 is what they need, and only God can bring that transformation as they humble themselves. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9.

We join you in praying for them now.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before You with broken hearts for these two mothers and their beautiful children. Lord, You see every hidden thing, every addiction, every act of fornication, every drink, every drug, every manipulation, and every financial deceit. We ask that You bring deep conviction and godly sorrow that leads to repentance. Remove them from toxic surroundings and break the chains of drugs, alcohol, and sexual immorality. Set them free, for whom the Son sets free is free indeed. Place them where they can receive real help, whether that is Christ-centered rehab, biblical counseling, and a local church that will disciple them, and give them a desire to be sober, faithful, and pure. Teach them to be diligent stewards, to work with their hands, to provide honestly for their households, and to use every provision You allow them to honor You and to nourish their children. Protect those impressionable children, Lord, guard their hearts and minds from trauma and confusion, surround them with Your angels and with godly influences, and let them know they are seen and loved by You. Give our dear friend who is interceding wisdom, strength, and healthy boundaries, guard her from guilt and exhaustion, and supply all her needs according to Your riches in glory Philippians 4:19. We pray that if these women desire companionship, they would seek it only in the holy covenant of marriage to a believing husband, pursuing courtship that honors You rather than repeated fornication. Bring them to salvation and transformation if they do not truly know You, and restore them to wholeness for Your glory. We ask all of this in the mighty and only name by which we can be saved, Jesus Christ, amen.

We hear how heavy this has been for you, watching two dear friends struggle with addictions while you try to love both them and their children well. You have shown such steady care, encouraging help, providing for the kids when you could, and holding a line even when it cost you closeness. It makes sense you feel worn down and heartbroken.

What you describe is so common with addiction. It can take priority over everything else, and those caught in it often minimize how much others, especially children, see and absorb. Loving someone in that place does not mean carrying their consequences for them. In fact, the kindest thing can be a clear boundary, like the one you have started to set around money. A boundary is simply a property line that helps us own what is ours to carry and not take on what is not, so we can stay connected without losing ourselves.

One practical step that may help you keep that line with peace is to decide ahead of time what you will and will not do, write it down, and share it with a trusted pastor or a support group for loved ones of those with addictions. You do not have to figure this alone, and having one or two wise people who know your situation can help you stay consistent when the pressure to rescue feels strong. Continue to encourage professional help for your friends when they are open, and keep praying for that openness.

Jesus, we lift these two mothers and their children to You. Work in their hearts to bring honesty and a desire for help, protect these little ones, and give our friend wisdom, strength, and peace as she loves them with both grace and clear limits. In Jesus' name, amen.

O Lord Jesus, thou friend of sinners, who wast moved with compassion when thou sawest the multitude as sheep without a shepherd, look in mercy upon these two women and upon their precious children. Convict them of sin and of the misery it brings, open their eyes to see that their children do perceive and do suffer, and grant them godly sorrow that worketh repentance. Deliver them from the dominion of drugs and alcohol and from the tyranny of lust. Break the chains of deceit and sloth and teach them to love righteousness. Bring them, we beseech thee, to true repentance and faith in thy shed blood, for there is salvation in no other. If it please thee, remove them from toxic surroundings and place them where they may receive sober help, wise counsel, and the ministry of thy Word, whether through godly physicians, rehabs, or the care of thy church, and teach them to be good stewards of what thou providest, to labor honestly and to owe no man anything but love. Set a hedge of protection about their children, keep those little ones from the snares laid before them, and raise up for them faithful examples and guardians who will point them to thee.

For you who have borne this burden, we pray the Lord will keep your compassion tender yet wise. He that would have friends must show himself friendly, and you have shown yourself friendly indeed. Continue to love at all times, but do not take upon yourself what belongs to the Lord to do, nor allow your kindness to become the means by which sin is sustained. To give without wisdom may harden the heart you seek to soften. Let your help henceforth be that which leads toward Christ and toward responsibility, food for the children, counsel toward repentance, an open Bible, an invitation to the house of God, and a clear and gentle refusal to fund what destroys. Cast your care upon Him who cares for you, and trust that He who has been your friend in many trying and changeful scenes will be your strength still. He will not leave you in the house of mourning.

May the Holy Spirit bedew your heart with fresh love for Christ, the unrivalled Friend who loves at all times, and make you an imitator of His pity toward erring ones, that having received mercy you may show mercy, and having been forgiven much you may labor with much compassion to bring others to Him who alone can make all things new.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
