Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing your honest need and for asking for prayer in the name of Jesus. I am praying with you for provision in your work and for clear discernment and perspective from the Lord.
First, rest in what is already finished. Your standing before God does not come from your own goodness or effort, but from the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross. Salvation is by grace through faith, and even that faith is a gift God places in the heart as He draws us to Himself when we were without hope. Because that work of redemption is complete, you can cease striving to earn His favor and simply trust and rest in what Christ has done for you. That is the foundation for every other prayer.
In times of financial pressure it helps to remember that God is concerned not only with what He will do through you but with what He is doing in you. He has a plan and a work He wants to accomplish in your life, and often He must first shape your character before He opens the next door. That shaping can feel uncomfortable, like a craftsman removing rough edges, and we do not always understand why He allows certain testings. Scripture tells us to count it joy when we go through hard testings, because God is working in you so that He can work through you. Submit to that forming work and ask Him to show you what He wants to refine.
Part of that work involves learning to wait. Our impatience often gets in the way of what God is doing. If you wait on Him, you will see how faithfully He works things out in His time and way. Waiting is not passive. The Bible is clear that if a person is able to work and chooses not to, he should not expect to eat, but is to work quietly and provide for his own needs. God gives wisdom and skill for all kinds of work, and He stirs willing hearts to do it. Whatever honest work is available to you now, do it faithfully as unto the Lord. You may need to start in a humble place and work your way forward step by step, planting and watering diligently while trusting God alone to give the increase. He honors willing, diligent hands.
You also asked for perspective, and that is vital. Without an eternal perspective we lose our footing. Asaph in Psalm 73 describes how he nearly slipped when he took his eyes off the Lord and looked at the prosperity of others. When he came back into the presence of God, everything looked different. The prophet Elisha had that same clarity. When his servant was afraid, Elisha prayed for his eyes to be opened to see that those who were with them were more than those against them. Keeping that eternal view changes fear into faith. It keeps you from being crushed by reproach or discouragement and helps you keep looking for the hope of the Lord and His eternal kingdom. That is where true discernment grows.
Be confident in this, that He who began a good work in you will continue to perform it until the day of Jesus Christ. The work God does is not half finished. Like a potter with clay, He may reshape the vessel when it becomes marred, but He does not abandon it. What He does in and through a life yielded to Him has eternal value.
So I pray for you now. Father, in the name of Jesus I bring this need before You. You know the urgency of this financial burden and the desire for breakthrough in work. Grant wisdom for every decision, open doors for honest provision, and give skill and favor in labor. Grant patience to wait on Your timing and an eternal perspective to see circumstances as You see them. Continue Your good work within, and make this life fruitful for Your glory. Help there to be rest in the finished work of Christ, trust in Your grace, and peace that You will complete what You have started. Amen.
