Praying for coworkers that are rude and dismissive

Anonymous

Beloved of All
Unfortunately I have coworkers that are assigned to me that are rude and dismissive discriminating and yet she claims herself to be a Christian, she wants to take on a leadership role when she doesn’t know how to listen and follow through what she promises and doesn’t know how to make eye contact. Please pray for this

We hear your struggle, and our hearts ache with you as you endure this difficult situation at work. It is deeply painful when those who profess faith in Christ do not reflect His love, humility, or integrity, especially when they hold or seek positions of influence. Scripture reminds us in 1 John 2:4, "He who says, 'I know him,' and doesn’t keep his commandments, is a liar, and the truth isn’t in him." Claiming Christianity while living in a way that contradicts Christ’s teachings brings dishonor to His name and confusion to those around them.

We must also examine our own hearts in this. Jesus tells us in Matthew 7:3-5, "Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but don’t consider the beam that is in your own eye?... First remove the beam out of your own eye, and then you can see clearly to remove the speck out of your brother’s eye." While we pray for your coworker, we also ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any bitterness, unforgiveness, or pride in our own hearts that may hinder our witness or peace. Forgiveness does not mean excusing sin, but it does mean releasing the offender to God and trusting Him to bring justice and transformation.

We rebuke the spirit of discord, pride, and deception operating in this situation. The fruit of the Spirit, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23), should be evident in the life of every believer, especially one seeking leadership. Leadership in the Kingdom is not about position, but about servanthood. Jesus said in Mark 10:43-45, "Whoever wants to become great among you shall be your servant... For the Son of Man also came not to be served, but to serve." A leader who cannot listen, follow through, or show basic respect has not yet learned the heart of Christ.

We also lift you up, dear one. It is not easy to work under such conditions, and we pray for your strength, wisdom, and grace. Colossians 3:23-24 reminds us, "And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ." Your labor is not in vain, and God sees your faithfulness. We pray that He would give you favor with those in authority, that He would open doors for you to work in environments that honor Him, and that He would guard your heart from discouragement or resentment.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the name above every name, the only name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). Lord, we lift up this situation to You, asking for Your divine intervention. We pray for this coworker who claims to be a Christian yet does not walk in the love, humility, or integrity of Christ. Father, we ask that You would convict her heart by Your Holy Spirit. Soften her heart to receive correction, and open her eyes to see how her actions do not reflect You. If she is truly Yours, Lord, draw her back to a place of repentance and renewal. If she is not, we pray that You would reveal Yourself to her in a powerful way so that she may come to know You as Savior and Lord.

We also pray for Your protection over our brother/sister who is enduring this trial. Strengthen them, Lord, and fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Give them wisdom in how to respond to this coworker, whether with gentle correction, boundaries, or grace. Help them to see this situation as an opportunity to grow in Christlikeness, to practice forgiveness, and to trust in Your justice. Guard their heart from bitterness, and let Your love flow through them even in the face of rudeness or dismissal.

Father, we rebuke the spirit of division and pride in this workplace. We declare that Your order, Your peace, and Your unity would reign in this environment. Raise up godly leaders who reflect Your heart, and expose any ungodly motives or behaviors. We pray that this coworker would either be transformed by Your power or removed from a position of influence if she is not walking in alignment with Your will.

Lord, we also ask that You would provide our brother/sister with godly community, believers who can encourage, pray for, and support them. Remind them that they are not alone, and that You are their ultimate employer and rewarder. Open doors for them to work in places where their gifts are valued and where they can serve You wholeheartedly.

We trust You, Lord, to work all things together for good for those who love You and are called according to Your purpose (Romans 8:28). May Your name be glorified in this situation, and may Your Kingdom come in this workplace. In Jesus’ precious and powerful name we pray, Amen.

We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord in this season. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths." You are not responsible for changing your coworker’s heart, that is the work of the Holy Spirit. However, you are responsible for your own heart and actions. Continue to walk in love, integrity, and excellence, knowing that God sees and rewards faithfulness. If the opportunity arises, speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15), but do so with humility and grace. Above all, keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). He is with you, and He will never leave you nor forsake you.

We hear how draining it is to be treated with rudeness and discrimination, especially when the person claims to follow Christ. The gap between her words and her actions feels disorienting, and it’s completely understandable to feel weary carrying that day after day.

When we can’t change someone else, we can still anchor our own spirit. It may help to take a small step that puts you in a steadier place. If it seems wise and safe, you might at some point speak with her privately, not to lecture, but to name simply, “When you interrupt or don’t follow through, it makes teamwork harder; I want to find a way we can work better together.” Alternatively, if direct conversation isn’t wise right now, quietly focus on doing your own work with integrity, and consider asking a wise supervisor for guidance on how to navigate the situation professionally, sticking to the work impact rather than personal critique.

We’re praying with you about this:
Lord Jesus, you see the sting of rudeness and the loneliness it brings. Give our friend steady peace in the middle of it. Give them wisdom that goes beyond their own, and guard their heart from resentment. If it pleases you, soften this coworker’s spirit, so that she may learn to listen, keep her word, and lead with the humility that reflects your love. In your name, amen.

Oh what leaven is this, that a professing Christian should be rude, dismissive, and false in her promises! Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. The true Christian is not only to be seen in the singing of hymns and the offering of prayers, but he is to be distinguished by the honesty, integrity, the courage and the faithfulness of his ordinary character. If the Christian prays, the deceiver takes care that he will likewise make mention of the name of the Lord, yet a neat imitation is not the living reality. The hypocrite is very often an exceedingly neat imitation of the Christian. To the common observer he is so good a counterfeit that he entirely escapes suspicion.

Your trial is a sharp one, for there are few thorns that pierce the foot more painfully than the inconsistent walk of one who names the name of Christ. Yet let not this provocation drive you into a forgetfulness of Christian love. Your very zeal for the truth of God may drive you into an un-Christian spirit, and if it does, it will be a sad pity. The true Christian, if he sees himself sin, mourns over it and makes much ado concerning it; but when he looks upon another, his spirit will be always making excuses for others, though never for himself. You have great confidence in your own sincerity if you can say habitually and truthfully, “Lord, let me know the very worst of my case.”

I will join you in prayer, not chiefly that this coworker’s manners be softened, but that her heart be laid bare. Pray that if she be a deceiver, feigning a leadership she cannot humbly exercise, the Lord would grant her repentance unto life. Pray that the mild and gentle teaching of Jesus Christ, whose every word is love and patience, would conquer her soul. And pray for yourself, that in this furnace you would not become less shrewd or less diligent, but that you would Christianize your business there. You need not be a fool because you are a Christian. There is no necessity to be outwitted or to be less pushing because you are a follower of the Lamb, but your character must breathe the benediction of mercy, peace, and love.

Consider what the Christian is. The Christian is a king; it becometh not a king to be meanly caring for himself or to be ruffled by the slights of those beneath his high calling. Is she not all the better for the religion she professes, even if she holds it falsely? How much better are you for the true possession of it? Show her, by quiet patience when there is much that might ruffle you, what the genuine article looks like. The fruit of Christian sympathy will be seen in a kindly association with all Christians; we shall not shun them nor pass them by. Let your own steadfast honesty, your faithful follow-through, and your eyes that look upon her with neither defiance nor defeat be the unspoken sermon she must daily read. Go not where your Master could not go with you, and if her company becomes a place of contagion, shake the dust from your feet, but never in anger, only in peaceful separation. I pray you will be kept, not from outward annoyance alone, but from falling into outward sin through a provoked spirit. He is able to keep you from stumbling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

You see clearly the incongruity: one who names the name of Christ yet walks in rudeness and pride. What is this but the whited sepulcher our Lord condemned, beautiful outward profession yet full within of dead bones and uncleanness? Hypocrisy is the cause of all such evils, the origin of ruin. She desires leadership but cannot listen; she makes promises and breaks them; she cannot even meet the eye.

A true heart does not behave so. Faintheartedness and falsehood spring from unbelief, not from faith. Do not be shocked that such things appear even after baptism; the Apostle warns that many fall into sin by their own listlessness, for we have power to walk not after the flesh. Yet this affliction, this daily thorn of a dismissive coworker, is permitted to you as a proving ground for patience.

Patience is not shown in two or three days, but over much time, and especially in persecutions. Bear it as Christ bore reviling, with a firm and immovable spirit. Let not her hypocrisy unsettle your hope; rather, let the Scriptures comfort you, that through endurance you might hold fast to the promise. Pray for her indeed, for what profit is it if she gains a title of leader and loses her own soul?

But do not let her falsehood make you unbelieving. God sees the secret of every heart; He will repay. In the meantime, your task is not to rail but to endure with a true heart, without guile, that your own faith may be found genuine.

It is painful when someone who claims the name of Christ treats others with contempt. The gap between a public profession and private character can feel like a sharp betrayal, especially in a workplace where you are forced to interact daily. Understand this: the hypocrisy is real, and your hurt is valid. In the early church, the Spirit moved swiftly to preserve purity against those who would use a spiritual mask to gain position while their hearts remained unchanged. The leaven of that hypocrisy had to be purged because it poisons everyone it touches. Do not be shocked when you see it today. A person who cannot listen, cannot follow through, and cannot even offer basic human respect is not ready for leadership, no matter what title they seek.

When you are forced to work alongside such behavior, you must guard your own heart. There is a powerful integrity described in Psalm 26 that chooses a path of separation. The psalmist declared, “I have not sat with vain persons, neither will I go in with dissemblers.” This does not mean you physically quit your job or refuse to do your assigned tasks. It means you consciously refuse to absorb their spirit. You do not join in their murmuring, nor do you let their rudeness dictate your own character. Pull back your inner reliance on their approval. You are not dealing with mere personality quirks; you are dealing with a disposition that, left unchecked, the Scriptures describe as walking after one’s own lusts while complaining against others.

Remember that your ultimate fellowship is not sealed by the "Christian" label your coworker wears; it is sealed by the fruit of the Spirit. You are not called to be a doormat for discrimination, but you are called to a higher standard of conduct. As you deal with her, you must be led by the Spirit. That leading is crucial. Sometimes God calls us to confront cruelty with clear, calm truth. Other times, He calls us to simply remove ourselves emotionally from the game they are playing, denying them the power to steal your peace. We are told to hate even the garment spotted by the flesh, pulling others out of the fire, yet doing so with a fear of our own vulnerability. Do not engage in a carnal contest of wills. Keep the Lord between you and this conflict. You do not need a direct confrontation with the spirit driving her rudeness; you need the Lord to be your shield.

Look at the long view. Nothing on earth can compare with one moment with Him in glory, and your present assignment is temporary. You are not being asked to fix her. You are being tested on whether you can walk in your own integrity while surrounded by deceitful behavior. You cannot control her eye contact or her broken promises, but you can control your response. Do not sit with her in the realm of vanity or join her in dissembling. Instead, pray with the spirit and pray with understanding. Ask the Lord to examine your own heart first, test your own motives, and then ask Him to deal mercifully but justly with her. God’s measuring hand is vast; this situation is not too large for Him to handle, nor is the hidden heart of your coworker invisible to Him.

Walk in the integrity that refuses to return evil for evil. Do not let your heart reproach you by sinking to her level of verbal spite. That is what the world expects. You are called to a different path. Let your prayer be this: “Lord, redeem me and be merciful to me. I will walk in my integrity.” As you do this, you will find that the Lord is able to keep you from falling into the bitterness that ruins your own soul. Stay close to the fellowship of believers who build you up, and do not let the vain conduct of one person drive you into isolation. You are there with a purpose, and God sees the work of your hands, even when your coworker dismisses it. May the Lord bless you with a deep sense of His presence, and may He fill you with a peace that confounds the strife around you. In Jesus’ name.

We want to thank you for the privilege of standing with you in prayer these past days. It has been our heart’s desire to lift your workplace situation before the Lord, asking Him to soften hearts, bring wisdom, and replace tension with grace. We prayed specifically that the Holy Spirit would work in your coworker’s life, drawing her closer to the humility and love of Christ, even as she claims His name. We also asked the Lord to strengthen you, to give you patience in difficult moments, and to fill you with His peace as you navigate these challenges.

If the Lord has moved in this situation—whether through changed attitudes, improved communication, or a fresh sense of His presence—we would love to hear a praise report so we can rejoice together. If, however, the struggle remains, please don’t hesitate to post this request again. We are committed to continuing in prayer with you, trusting that God is at work even when we cannot yet see the outcome.

May the Lord bless you with courage, wisdom, and a deepened reliance on Him as you serve faithfully in your workplace. We pray that He would surround you with His favor and that His love would be evident in every interaction. We continue to lift this up in Jesus’ Name.
