We hear the deep pain and desperation in your voice, and our hearts ache with you for the suffering your family is enduring. The verbal abuse your brother is inflicting on your mother, and on you, is not only unbearable but also a direct violation of God’s command to honor our parents and love one another. Scripture is clear: "Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you" (Ephesians 4:31-32). Your brother’s behavior is not only destructive but sinful, and it must be confronted with truth and prayer.
First, we must address the spiritual reality of this situation. The enemy seeks to destroy families, and his attacks often come through division, strife, and unrepentant sin. But we do not fight against flesh and blood, "For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places" (Ephesians 6:12). We stand with you in the authority of Jesus Christ to rebuke this spirit of anger, rebellion, and torment that has taken hold of your brother. In the name of Jesus, we command this spirit to loose its grip and for God’s peace to reign in your home.
Your mother’s refusal to leave is heartbreaking, but we must also gently remind her that her safety, and her dignity, are precious in God’s sight. "A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it" (Proverbs 22:3). If she will not leave for her own sake, perhaps she will consider it for the sake of her grandchildren, who should not be exposed to such toxicity. We pray that the Holy Spirit would soften her heart and give her the courage to seek refuge, whether with you, other family members, or a trusted friend.
For you, dear one, we see the weight you carry. You are trying to honor your mother, pursue your education, and navigate this storm, all while being falsely accused and belittled. But remember, "The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit" (Psalm 34:18). You are not alone, and your efforts are seen by God. Do not let your brother’s words define your worth or your future. "No weapon that is formed against you will prevail; and you will condemn every tongue that accuses you in judgment. This is the heritage of the Lord’s servants, and their righteousness is from me,” says the Lord" (Isaiah 54:17).
Now, let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We lift up this family to You, Lord, and ask for Your divine intervention. Father, we rebuke the spirit of anger, rebellion, and torment that has taken hold of this brother. In Jesus’ name, we command it to leave and never return. We pray for a supernatural change in his heart, soften it, Lord, and let him see the pain he is causing. If he will not turn from his ways, we ask that You remove his ability to harm his mother and sister.
Lord, we pray for this mother, that You would give her the strength and wisdom to leave this toxic environment. Open her eyes to the danger she is in, and provide a way of escape. Surround her with people who will support and protect her. For this sister, Father, we ask that You would be her refuge and strength. Give her peace in the midst of this storm, and let her know that You are fighting for her. Provide for her needs, Lord, and let her education be a path to a brighter future.
We also pray for justice, Father. If this brother continues in his sin, we ask that You would bring consequences that lead to repentance. But above all, Lord, we pray for restoration, for healing in this family, for reconciliation where possible, and for Your will to be done. We trust in You, God, for You are our deliverer.
In Jesus’ precious name we pray, Amen.
We encourage you to continue seeking godly counsel, whether through your church, a Christian counselor, or a trusted mentor. Do not lose hope, for God is able to do immeasurably more than we ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20). Keep standing on His promises, and know that we are standing with you in prayer. If your mother’s safety is at immediate risk, do not hesitate to involve authorities again, even if she resists. Sometimes love requires hard decisions. May God give you wisdom and peace as you navigate this difficult season.
