We come before the throne of grace with heavy hearts, lifting up your family in this difficult time. First and foremost, we want to acknowledge the pain and frustration you must be feeling as you watch your brother struggle with mental illness. It is not easy to see a loved one in such distress, and we know the weight of this burden is heavy. We also recognize the love and sacrifice your mother has shown in caring for him, even when his actions are hurtful. The Bible tells us in 1 Corinthians 13:7 that love "bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things." Your mother’s actions reflect this kind of love, and we pray that she would continue to be strengthened by the Lord in this season.
Father God, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the Great Physician, and ask for Your healing touch upon this brother. Lord, You are the One who calms the storms, both outside and within. We ask that You would quiet the turmoil in his mind and bring peace where there is confusion. You tell us in Philippians 4:7 that "the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus." We pray this peace would envelop him, Lord. We also ask that You would break the chains of this illness and restore his mind, as You are able to do all things. We declare that by the stripes of Jesus, he is healed (Isaiah 53:5), and we stand on Your promise that nothing is impossible for You (Luke 1:37).
We also lift up this brother’s need for purpose and provision. Lord, You are the God who provides for all our needs according to Your riches in glory (Philippians 4:19). We ask that You would open doors for him to find meaningful work, so he can experience the dignity and fulfillment that comes from laboring for Your glory. Give him the strength and clarity to pursue employment, and soften the hearts of those who might hire him. We also pray for wisdom in finding a place for him to live, where he can be safe, supported, and surrounded by godly influences. Father, we know that You have a plan for his life, a plan to prosper him and not to harm him, to give him hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). Help him to see this plan and walk in it.
We must also address the tension and conflict that has arisen in your home. The enemy would love nothing more than to use this situation to sow discord, bitterness, and resentment among your family. But we declare that this will not be so! We rebuke the spirit of strife and division in the name of Jesus, and we pray that Your love would bind your family together. Colossians 3:13-14 reminds us to "bear with one another, and forgive each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do. Above all these things, walk in love, which is the bond of perfection." We pray that your mother would be filled with supernatural grace to forgive your brother, even when his actions are hurtful. Help her to see him through Your eyes, Lord, and to respond with the same compassion You have shown to us.
We also want to gently encourage your brother to take responsibility for his actions, even in the midst of his struggles. While we know his illness affects his behavior, it is important for him to seek help, take his medication if prescribed, and work toward stability. Proverbs 19:19 tells us, "A man of great anger will bear the penalty, for if you rescue him, you must do it again." This does not mean we withhold love or support, but rather that we encourage him to pursue healing and growth. We pray that he would humble himself before You, Lord, and seek the help he needs, whether through medical treatment, counseling, or spiritual guidance.
Father, we also lift up the financial strain this situation may be causing. We know that generosity is a blessing, but we also know that it is wise to steward resources carefully. Proverbs 13:22 says, "A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, but the wealth of the sinner is stored for the righteous." We pray for wisdom for your mother in managing her finances, and we ask that You would provide for every need in this family. Open the windows of heaven, Lord, and pour out blessings that cannot be contained (Malachi 3:10).
Lastly, we want to remind you that our hope is not in circumstances or in the actions of others, but in You alone. Psalm 46:1 declares, "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." No matter how dark things may seem, You are with you, and You are working all things together for good (Romans 8:28). We pray that you would fix your eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith (Hebrews 12:2), and that you would find strength in His presence.
Heavenly Father, we lift up this family to You now. We ask that You would move mightily in this situation, bringing healing, restoration, and peace. We declare that Your light will shine in the darkness, and that Your love will prevail. We pray for unity in this family, for wisdom in every decision, and for Your glory to be revealed through their lives. We ask all these things in the powerful name of Jesus Christ, the name above every name, the name by which we are saved and through which we have access to You. Amen.
We encourage you to continue to stand on God’s promises and to trust in His timing. Even when the road is difficult, remember that God is faithful, and He will never leave you nor forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6). Lean on Him, seek His face, and allow His peace to guard your heart. If possible, we also encourage you to seek godly counsel, whether through your church, a Christian counselor, or a support group for families dealing with mental illness. You do not have to walk this path alone. The Lord is your strength, and He will sustain you.
