Prayers to study to be quiet

Can you please pray for me? I am working hard not to share to much with people in my life and keep things close to heart. I feel like God is putting it on my heart to be more private again. Please pray in the name of Jesus for me. Thank you.

We join with you in prayer and we thank you for asking us to pray in the name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and it is in His name that our prayers are heard.

We hear your heart and we affirm the wisdom in what you are sensing. The desire to be more private, to keep things close to your heart and not to share too much is a godly desire and it is indeed from the Lord when He leads us to be more guarded and quiet before Him. There is great wisdom and protection in restraint and in pondering things in your heart before speaking.

The Scripture speaks directly to this calling. We are exhorted to make it our ambition to lead a quiet life, and to do our own business, and to work with our own hands 1 Thess 4:11. We are also reminded that In the multitude of words there is no lack of disobedience, but he who restrains his lips does wisely Prov 10:19, and Even a fool, when he keeps silent, is counted wise. When he shuts his lips, he is thought to be discerning Prov 17:28. The psalmist prayed, Set a watch, Yahweh, before my mouth. Keep the door of my lips Psalm 141:3, and we are told to Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life Prov 4:23. We think also of Mary who kept all these sayings, pondering them in her heart Luke 2:19, and the wisdom that there is a time to keep silence, and a time to speak Eccl 3:7. The Lord values a quiet and gentle spirit and calls us to be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger James 1:19.

We understand how hard it can be to learn to be quiet, especially when we are used to processing outwardly with others. It takes discipline and trust to bring things to God first and to keep them close to your heart until He shows you what, when, and with whom to share.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we lift up our dear brother or sister to You in Jesus name. We thank You for putting this desire on their heart to be more private and to study to be quiet before You. We ask that You would give them grace and strength to guard their lips and to keep their heart with all diligence. Teach them when to speak and when to remain silent, and give them discernment to know what to share and what to keep between You and them. Quiet their heart before You, help them to find their counsel and comfort in You first, and protect them from oversharing or speaking hastily. Fill them with Your peace as they learn to ponder things in their heart like Mary did, and let their quiet trust in You be a testimony of Your work within them. Guide them into deeper fellowship with You in the secret place, and let them know the blessing of a life that is settled and quiet in Christ. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus, amen.

We encourage you to continue to seek Him in quiet prayer and in the Word, to bring every thought and burden to Him before bringing it to others, and to trust that He who sees in secret will reward you openly. He will give you wisdom for each conversation and peace as you keep your heart close to Him.

Thank you for letting us pray with you about this. We can hear how sincerely you want to follow what God is placing on your heart to hold things closer and speak with more care.

Wanting to be more private is often a sign of wisdom growing, not distance. It takes real self awareness to notice when sharing has been too much or too quick, and to choose quiet instead. That learning takes time and practice, and it is good that you are paying attention to that nudge.

One small practice that helps is to give yourself a brief pause before you share something personal. In that moment you can quietly ask the Lord if this is the right person, the right time, and the right amount to share, and if it is helpful, jot the thought down privately first to process with Him before bringing it to others. Over time that pause makes quietness feel more natural and less pressured.

We are encouraged by your desire to honor God in this way, and we are with you as you learn this rhythm.

Father, we bring our friend to You and thank You for the work You are doing in their heart. Give them wisdom to know when to speak and when to remain quiet, peace as they keep things close to You, and gentle confidence to walk in the privacy You are teaching them. Guide them day by day and draw them closer to You. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

There is much wisdom and grace in the desire you express, to be quiet and to keep matters close to your heart before the Lord. The Scripture saith, he that hath knowledge spareth his words, and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit, and again we are taught to study to be quiet and to do our own business. It is a blessed thing when the soul sets Caution and Self examination at the helm, and cries with the Psalmist, Search me, O God, and know my heart.

To guard the tongue and to watch the heart is not coldness toward others, but care for thine own vineyard, that it be well kept under the eye of the Master. Heedlessness and being too bold with our words often leads to sorrow, but quietness before God gives room for wisdom to grow and for prayer to deepen. The Lord loves a humble and watchful walk, where we examine our motives and speak only what is needful and edifying.

I will pray for you in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who alone is our help and our keeper.

Our gracious Father, in the name of Jesus Thy Son, I ask Thee to grant to this dear soul the grace of quietness of spirit. Teach the lips to be guarded and the heart to be kept with all diligence. Give wisdom to know when to speak and when to be silent, and grant peace in keeping those things which are best pondered in the heart with Thee. Let Thy Holy Spirit be the watchman at the door of the lips, and fill the heart with such communion with Christ that it finds its full satisfaction in Thy presence. Keep this one near to Thyself, humble, watchful, and at peace, trusting not in self but in Thy sufficient grace. This I ask in the precious name of Jesus, Amen.

May the Lord continue this good work in you, and make your quietness a strength, and your private communion with Him a well of joy.
