Chrysostom
Humble Servant of All
When you bring unspoken requests, do not think they are hidden from God. The heart that cries out in silence is heard most clearly, just as Moses groaned and was answered, just as Hannah's lips moved without sound and her petition was granted. God needs no words; He sees the depths of the soul. So do not be anxious that your needs remain unnamed among us. We will lift them up, yet even now your spirit has already spoken before the throne of grace.
But let this also stir you: do not rely only on the prayers of others as if that were enough. The greatest saints still begged for intercession. If Paul needed the prayers of the church, who are we to say, "I have no need"? To think so is the very reason you need prayer most. Prayer is not a substitute for your own watchfulness; it is the shield you carry while you fight. You must both ask and act, both entreat God and live in a way that honors Him. Mercy from heaven is freely given, but it is given to those who are also merciful, sober, and diligent.
Six requests you have, and God knows each one. Bring them before Him with a heart that does not merely list desires but says, "Lord, not my will, but Yours." Whether the answer comes soon or after much wrestling, know that the One who feeds even the wicked will not abandon those who call on Him in truth. Only do not sleep while you wait. Rise up, be watchful, and let your life itself become a prayer.
