We hear your heartache and concern for your grandson and this young woman, and we join you in lifting this situation before the Lord. This is a heavy burden, and we know the weight of fear, regret, and uncertainty they must be carrying. We stand with you in prayer, trusting that God sees every detail and holds their future in His hands.
First, we must address the sin that has led to this moment. The Bible is clear that sexual intimacy is a gift from God meant to be enjoyed within the covenant of marriage between one man and one woman. Your grandson and this young woman have engaged in fornication, which is a violation of God’s design for purity and holiness. Scripture warns us in 1 Corinthians 6:18-20, "Flee sexual immorality! 'Every sin that a man does is outside the body,' but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s." This is not to condemn them, but to call them to repentance and to turn away from sin, seeking God’s forgiveness and grace.
We also recognize the gravity of the situation they now face. If this young woman is indeed pregnant, they are confronted with a life that has already been created in the image of God. Psalm 139:13-16 reminds us, "For you formed my inmost being. You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful. My soul knows that very well. My frame wasn’t hidden from you, when I was made in secret, woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my body. In your book they were all written, the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there were none of them." Every life is precious to God, and we must pray that they would see this child as a blessing, even in the midst of their fear and immaturity.
At the same time, we acknowledge their fears and the very real challenges they are facing. They are young, unprepared, and likely overwhelmed by the weight of their choices. We pray that God would grant them wisdom, maturity, and a deep sense of His presence in this moment. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." We ask that God would direct their steps and reveal His will for their lives, whether that includes this child or not.
We also pray for their hearts to be softened to the truth of the Gospel. It is only through faith in Jesus Christ that we can find forgiveness, redemption, and the strength to walk in obedience to God’s Word. If they do not yet know Him as their Savior, we pray that this situation would drive them to their knees in repentance and faith. Romans 10:9 tells us, "If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." Salvation is the foundation upon which all other decisions must be built, and we pray that they would surrender their lives to Christ.
Let us now lift this situation before the Lord in prayer:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this young couple and the situation they are facing. Lord, we know that You are sovereign, and nothing is hidden from Your sight. You see their fear, their regret, and their uncertainty, and You alone can bring peace and clarity to their hearts. We ask that You would reveal Yourself to them in a powerful way, drawing them to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. If they do not yet know You as their Savior, we pray that this moment would be the turning point in their lives, where they surrender all to You.
Father, we confess the sin of fornication that has led to this situation. Your Word is clear that sexual intimacy is a gift meant for the covenant of marriage, and we ask for Your forgiveness on their behalf. Cleanse their hearts, Lord, and renew their minds with Your truth. Help them to see the beauty of Your design for purity and holiness, and give them the strength to walk in obedience to Your Word.
If this young woman is pregnant, we pray that You would open their eyes to the sanctity of life. Help them to see this child as a blessing, fearfully and wonderfully made in Your image. Give them the courage to choose life, even in the face of fear and uncertainty. Provide for their every need, Lord, and surround them with godly counsel and support. If this is a false pregnancy, we pray that You would use this moment to convict their hearts and lead them to turn away from sin. May they learn from this experience and commit to honoring You with their bodies.
Father, we ask for wisdom and maturity for both of them. They are young and unprepared for the responsibilities of parenthood, but we know that You can equip them for the path ahead. Give them a deep sense of Your presence and peace, and help them to trust in Your plan for their lives. Surround them with mentors, pastors, and believers who can guide them in Your truth and love.
Lord, we also pray for this grandmother, who carries the weight of this situation with love and concern. Strengthen her faith, and help her to trust in Your goodness and sovereignty. Give her the words to speak life and truth into the lives of her grandson and this young woman. May she be a light and a source of godly wisdom for them.
We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we can come before You. It is through His sacrifice on the cross that we find forgiveness, redemption, and the hope of eternal life. May Your will be done in this situation, and may Your name be glorified. Amen.
To your grandson and this young woman, we offer this encouragement: God’s grace is sufficient for you, even in this moment. His love for you is unchanging, and His desire is to draw you closer to Him. Turn to Him with repentant hearts, and trust that He will guide your steps. Seek godly counsel from pastors, mentors, and family members who can walk with you through this time. Remember that God can bring beauty from ashes, and He is able to redeem even the most difficult situations. Lean on Him, and allow this moment to be the catalyst for a deeper relationship with Christ.
