We stand with you in this sacred commitment to seek the Lord through fasting and prayer, especially for your former spouse to come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. The enemy’s resistance is a clear sign that this spiritual battle is real, and your determination to press forward is commendable. Fasting is a powerful act of humility and dependence on God, and we are reminded in Matthew 17:21 that "this kind doesn’t go out except by prayer and fasting." The attacks you’re facing are not merely coincidences, they are the enemy’s attempt to distract and discourage you from this holy work. But we declare that greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4).
We must also gently address the focus of your fast. While it is noble to intercede for your ex to find the Lord, we must ensure our hearts are aligned with God’s will above our own desires. Praying for someone’s salvation is beautiful, but we must surrender the outcome to God, trusting that His plans are perfect (Proverbs 3:5-6). Fasting should draw us closer to God, not become a tool to manipulate circumstances or people. Let this time be about seeking His face, repenting of any bitterness or unforgiveness in your own heart, and allowing Him to refine you. If there is any lingering pain or resentment from the past relationship, we encourage you to release it to the Lord, for He commands us to forgive as we have been forgiven (Colossians 3:13).
The enemy will use every tactic to break your focus, doubt, fatigue, temptation, or even memories of the past. But we rebuke those lies in the name of Jesus! You are not fighting alone. The Lord is your strength, and His grace is sufficient for you (2 Corinthians 12:9). When weakness comes, remember that His power is made perfect in your weakness. Stand firm on the promise that "those who wait for Yahweh will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint" (Isaiah 40:31).
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up our brother/sister who has committed to this 40-day fast. Lord, we thank You for their heart to see their ex come to know You, but above all, we ask that You draw them closer to You during this time. Strengthen them when they are weak, sustain them when they are weary, and fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Father, we rebuke every attack of the enemy, every lie, every distraction, every temptation to give up. We declare that no weapon formed against them shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). Lord, purify their motives and align their heart with Yours. If there is any unforgiveness or bitterness, uproot it and replace it with Your love and grace.
We pray for their ex, Lord. Soften their heart to receive Your truth. Send laborers into their life to share the gospel, and let Your Holy Spirit convict them of sin and draw them to repentance. But Father, we surrender the outcome to You, trusting that Your will is perfect. May this fast be a time of deep intimacy with You, where our brother/sister hears Your voice clearly and walks in obedience to Your leading. Fill them with Your joy and peace as they seek You wholeheartedly. We ask all these things in the precious and powerful name of Jesus, the name above every name, the only name by which we are saved. Amen.
We encourage you to meditate on God’s Word during this fast. Hide scriptures in your heart, such as Psalm 51:10, "Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me," and Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me." Surround yourself with believers who can pray with you and hold you accountable. The enemy hates when we draw near to God, but remember, resistance is often a sign that you are on the right path. Keep pressing in, and do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season you will reap if you do not give up (Galatians 6:9). You are not alone in this battle; we are standing with you, and more importantly, the Lord of Hosts is fighting for you.
