Prayers for Strength

Fasting is a powerful way to set aside the clamor of the flesh and fix your heart on the Lord. But I want to encourage you to examine the spirit behind this fast. Scripture warns that a fast can be twisted into a tool for striving or trying to force God’s hand. If the hidden aim is to prove a point or to make your own voice ring louder in heaven, then the fast becomes a religious ritual rather than genuine humility. The question is not whether you can endure forty days, but whether this fast is the kind the Lord has truly chosen: one that loosens the chains of selfish desire and frees you to delight yourself in Him.

Your burden for your ### to know Christ is a good thing, but God desires mercy, not sacrifice. True fasting runs alongside intercession that rests in His timing and His will, not our own demands. It's easy to slip into using self-denial as a bargaining chip with God, yet He cannot be manipulated. He loves your ### far more than you do, and He knows exactly what it will take to draw a heart to Himself. Use this season not to grit your teeth against the devil's attacks in your own strength, but to lean into the Lord's strength. When you are weak, His power is made perfect. Recognize the enemy's roar for what it is, a bluff meant to make you crumble, and then resist him steadfast in the faith, not by panic but by drawing near to Jesus. Rejoice in the victory Christ has already won, and let that joy push back the discouragement.

As you continue, let the fast refine your own heart first. Cling to Him for the strength to persevere, and receive the comfort that you are greatly loved, not because you afflict your soul, but because you are His. Stand in the gap for your ### with prayers shaped by the Holy Spirit, and leave the outcome in the hands of the One who is both just and merciful.
