We join with you in bringing this dear brother before the throne of grace and we thank you for standing in the gap for him in love and intercession. We share your burden for his complete deliverance and restoration and we do not take lightly the many years of bondage, the cycle of rehab without lasting victory, and the pain this has caused him and those around him.

We know that addiction is a cruel bondage and that our enemy seeks to steal and destroy, yet we also know that true freedom is only found in Christ. The scriptures tell us If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed John 8:36 and that sin will not have dominion over you, for you are not under law, but under grace Romans 6:14. We are told No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with you the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it 1 Corinthians 10:13. This tells us that while the struggle is real, God has provided a way of escape through abiding in Jesus, walking by the Spirit, and not by the flesh. Rehab and human effort alone cannot deliver, only Christ can make us a new creation where old things have passed away 2 Corinthians 5:17.

We must also lovingly rebuke and address what you have shared about theft, extortion of large sums of money, and lying to fund his addiction. These are not merely symptoms of addiction, they are sins before a holy God that require repentance. The Lord commands You shall not steal Exodus 20:15 and again Let him who stole steal no more, but rather let him labor, producing with his hands something that is good Ephesians 4:28. We are also commanded Do not lie to one another Colossians 3:9 and warned that extortioners will not inherit the kingdom of God 1 Corinthians 6:10. We love this brother and therefore we cannot excuse this behavior, we must call it what it is and call him to repentance, confession, and where possible restitution as Zacchaeus modeled in Luke 19:8. True deliverance will include a turning away from these practices, confessing them to God and to those he has wronged, and submitting to godly accountability. We encourage him to confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed James 5:16 within a faithful Bible believing church where he can be discipled, held accountable, and encouraged daily.

We are grateful you noted he is a Christian, and we pray his faith is genuine and living. We want to gently remind you and him that it is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God and that there is salvation in no one else Acts 4:12. Jesus himself said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. If he has truly believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, confessing with his mouth and believing in his heart that God raised Him from the dead Romans 10:9, then the Holy Spirit dwells in him and has power to break every chain. We pray he will examine himself, abide in Christ daily through the Word and prayer, and walk in the Spirit so he will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh Galatians 5:16. We also pray for you as his friend, that you will love him without enabling him, speak the truth in love, and set healthy biblical boundaries while continuing to intercede.

We pray together now.

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and our deliverer. We lift this precious brother to You and ask for Your mercy and Your power to break the bondage of heroin in his life completely. Lord, set him free indeed, cleanse him, renew his mind, and fill him with Your Holy Spirit so that he may walk in newness of life. We ask that You convict him deeply of the theft, extortion, and lies, grant him godly sorrow that leads to repentance, and help him to confess his sins to You. We claim Your promise If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9. Give him courage to confess to those he has harmed and to make restitution as You lead him. Break the cycle of returning to old patterns and plant his feet firmly on the Rock. Surround him with godly men, a pastor and brothers who will disciple him, hold him accountable, and not let him walk alone. Restore what the enemy has stolen, for You have promised I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten Joel 2:25. Protect him from temptation, guard his heart and mind, and let him stand fast in the liberty by which Christ has made us free Galatians 5:1. We also lift his friend who is praying, strengthen and encourage this intercessor, give wisdom to know how to help in a way that honors You. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Deliverer, amen.

We are grateful you brought your friend to us for prayer. Watching someone you love go in and out of rehab without lasting freedom is heavy, and even more so when you see him resort to theft and lies to keep the addiction going. It makes sense you feel both deep concern for him and weariness from the long road.

Heroin addiction is not simply a matter of trying harder. It affects the body, the mind, habits and relationships, and the spirit, which is why people rarely find lasting change alone. Complete deliverance and restoration is the right thing to pray for, and it usually also takes steady, experienced help over time, with God and with wise counsel walking alongside. The fact that he is a believer does not make the struggle less real, but it does mean he is not without hope or without a Shepherd who still loves him.

If he is willing, we encourage you to keep pointing him toward ongoing professional addiction care and a recovery community that understands heroin addiction well, along with a pastor who can know him consistently. And as his friend, please don't carry this alone either. It helps to have your own support and clear, loving boundaries, especially around money, so care does not become enabling.

Father, we lift this young man to You. You see his years of struggle, the shame and the choices that have hurt others, and the desire for freedom that has not yet held. We ask for Your mercy to deliver him, to protect those around him, to give him honesty and willingness to receive help, and to give his friend wisdom, strength and peace as he loves him well. Lead each next step according to Your will. In Jesus' name, amen.

We join you in prayer for this dear one who is held fast by heroin and who has fallen into theft, extortion and lying to feed that bondage. We have carried your burden before the Lord, asking Him for a complete deliverance and a true restoration, for we know that deliverance from sin is solely by the power of God. It is not of him that wills, nor of him that runs, but of God that shows mercy, and He has found a ransom in the blood of His Son, the Lamb slain for sinners.

We pray that God would grant him not a carnal repentance which is of the flesh and gives no glory to God and leads to no lasting deliverance, but that repentance unto life which is the work of the Holy Spirit in the renewed heart. There is a repentance that washes and brushes the outward life yet leaves the heart unrenewed, and it does not save. True repentance gives God glory, it makes a man weep and abhor his past life because of the love of Christ which has pardoned it, and it makes him avoid present sin because of the love of God who died for him. That repentance ejects sin as an evil tenant and faith admits Christ to be the sole master of the heart. The two are inseparable, and where there is true repentance there is also remission of sins preached in the name of Jesus.

We ask the Lord to show him that repentance is not a thing done once and forgotten, but a grace that lives as long as faith lives, and that it will yield works meet for repentance. True repentance is practical and it lasts. It will lead him to confess his sin honestly before God and before those he has wronged, to turn from theft and lying with a holy hatred of those sins, and to seek to make restitution where he is able, not to earn forgiveness but as fruit that his turning is real. We pray that he would look out of self to Christ and to Christ only, for our deliverance was attended with enrichment when He brought His people forth, and He alone can bring this brother forth from the pit.

Let us pray together. O Lord our God, who alone can deliver from the pit, have mercy upon this thy servant who is ensnared by this cruel addiction. Thou hast seen his many attempts in his own strength and his many falls. We confess before Thee his sins of addiction, theft, extortion and deceit, and we ask Thee to work in him a godly sorrow that needs not to be repented of. Create in him a clean heart and renew a right spirit within him. Show him the ransom Thou hast found, even Jesus Christ who bore our sins and breaks the power of sin. Break these chains, we pray, and set him free indeed. Keep him from returning to the old paths, plant his feet upon the Rock, give him a hatred for sin and a love for holiness, and restore to him the joy of Thy salvation. Surround him with faithful brothers, with a true church, with wise counsel and help, and give him strength to walk day by day in dependence upon Thy grace. We ask this not for his glory but for Thine, that Thou alone would have the praise for his deliverance. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

We encourage you to continue to plead for him and to urge him, as God gives opportunity, to cast himself wholly upon Christ, to walk in the light with honest confession, to submit to faithful pastoral care and to accountable help for his body and soul, trusting not in the arm of flesh but in Him who brings His people forth with power.
