Prayers for guidance

I need prayers for my grandson ### who has been acting rude, disrespectful and hurtful toward me, his mother and siblings. He has been in contact with his dad who is not a good person and is exactly the same way. Since he has started going around him he’s changed for the worse. His siblings don’t talk to the dad because they see right through him. ### is most like him so he favors him only and will ignore the rest. I pray to Jesus to change him or remove him from their lives but he hasn’t changed and he’s still manipulating ###. I know ###’s forgive and loves everything. I forgave ###’s father years ago but I still don’t feel he should be in their lives especially seeing he’s still the same and ### has gotten worse by just being around him. Please pray for my grandson to open his eyes and see what Jesus had removed from his life he should not have brought back. If I’m wrong please let me know

We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up your grandson and this painful situation. The influence of his father is clearly toxic, and we see the devastating effects it is having on his behavior and relationships with those who love him most. Scripture warns us in 1 Corinthians 15:33, "Don’t be deceived! Evil companionships corrupt good morals." This is exactly what we are witnessing here, and our hearts break for the damage being done.

We must also gently but firmly address the reality of sin in this situation. The disrespect, rudeness, and hurtful behavior your grandson is displaying are not just "teenage phases" or personality quirks, they are sinful patterns that grieve the heart of God. Proverbs 22:15 tells us, "Folly is bound up in the heart of a child; the rod of discipline will remove it far from him." While discipline may seem harsh, it is an act of love, meant to steer him away from destruction. We must pray that his heart is softened to receive correction, whether from you, his mother, or the Lord Himself.

Your prayer for his father to be removed from their lives is not wrong. In fact, it aligns with God’s desire to protect His children from harm. Psalm 101:7 says, "No one who practices deceit shall dwell in my house; no one who utters lies shall continue before my eyes." If this man is unrepentant and continues to lead your grandson astray, it is right to ask God to intervene. However, we must also examine our own hearts. Forgiveness, as you have shown, is not the same as trust or reconciliation. You can forgive his father while still recognizing the danger he poses. Jesus Himself taught us to forgive, but He also warned in Matthew 7:6, "Don’t give that which is holy to the dogs, neither throw your pearls before the pigs, lest perhaps they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces." Some relationships are not meant to be restored, especially when they bring harm.

We also want to address your grandson’s need for salvation. You mentioned praying to Jesus, but we must ask: Has your grandson personally placed his faith in Christ? Does he understand that his behavior is not just "being like his dad" but is sin against a holy God? Romans 3:23 tells us, "For all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God." Without Christ, he is lost in his sin, and no amount of good behavior or human effort can save him. We must pray that the Holy Spirit convicts him of his need for a Savior and that he surrenders his life to Jesus. Only then will he have the power to break free from the chains of his father’s influence.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this precious grandson to You. Lord, we ask that You would open his eyes to the truth of his sin and the destruction his father’s influence is bringing into his life. Break the chains of manipulation and deception, and replace them with a hunger for righteousness. We pray that You would surround him with godly influences, people who will speak truth into his life and model the love of Christ. Father, if he does not know You as his Savior, we ask that You would draw him to Yourself. Let him see his need for Jesus and surrender his heart to You.

We also pray for wisdom and strength for his family. Give them the courage to set boundaries with his father, even if it means cutting off contact. Protect their hearts from bitterness and resentment, and help them to extend grace while standing firm on what is right. Lord, we ask that You would restore peace in this home and that Your presence would be tangible in their lives. May they find their hope and strength in You alone.

We rebuke the spirit of rebellion and disrespect in this young man’s life, in the name of Jesus. We declare that he is not bound by his father’s sin but can walk in the freedom Christ offers. We pray that he would turn away from this toxic influence and toward You, the only One who can truly satisfy his heart.

Father, we trust You to work in this situation. We know that nothing is too hard for You, and we believe that You can turn even this heart of stone into a heart of flesh. We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, the name above all names, the only name by which we can be saved. Amen.

We encourage you to continue praying fervently for your grandson, but also to speak truth into his life with love and firmness. Proverbs 27:5-6 says, "Better is open rebuke than hidden love. Faithful are the wounds of a friend; although the kisses of an enemy are profuse." Sometimes, the most loving thing we can do is confront sin head-on. Trust that God is at work, even when you don’t see immediate change. His timing is perfect, and His ways are higher than ours. Keep leaning on Him, and do not grow weary in doing good.

It is so painful to watch someone you love being pulled in a harmful direction, and we can hear how much you care for and the whole family. When you’ve already walked through forgiveness with his father, it can feel confusing and even unfair to see that same influence now wounding your grandson. Please know that what you’re feeling is not a failure to forgive. You have done the hard work of releasing bitterness, and that stands. But forgiveness and trust are not the same thing, and you are not wrong for recognizing that a relationship remains destructive. Sometimes the most loving thing we can do is keep praying while also maintaining wise boundaries, even when we cannot control whether others do the same.

Right now is being shaped by what he’s seeing and experiencing, and that is a heavy burden to carry as a grandmother. We can ask God to give him a hunger for what is true and life-giving, and also to give you steady wisdom about when to speak, when to stay close, and when to simply entrust him to the Father who sees even more than you do.

Lord Jesus, we lift up this hurting grandmother to you. You see the changes that trouble her, and you know the pull that is under. Guard his heart from manipulation, and open his eyes to recognize what leads toward wholeness and what leads away from it. Give this grandmother your peace that goes deeper than the confusion she feels, and let her rest in knowing that you are at work even when the change is slow. Protect the other siblings who have chosen a different path, and surround this whole family with your mercy and guidance. We ask this in your name, Jesus. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your cry rises from a heart wrung with mingled love and grief, a grandmother’s anguish that sees a beloved child walking a path where thorns already choke the wheat. This trial feels sharper because a voice you trusted to be silenced has returned to poison the well, and drinks as though the waters were sweet.

Take firm hold of this truth: our Lord’s prayer for His own was not that they be plucked out of the world’s entanglement, but that while abiding in its venomous atmosphere they might be kept from evil. You have entreated the Lord to change the father or remove him, yet heaven’s silence teaches that the keeping power of Christ for is not dependent on removing the tempter from his life, but on removing the taste for the temptation from his heart. Would it not be a mightier triumph if, while the father remains just as he is, your grandson were so transformed by grace that the very influence which now ensnares him becomes a testimony to the keeping power of Christ? The Lord answers prayers in ways that amplify His own glory rather than merely ease our immediate distress.

Never forget the radical nature of the change wrought by divine grace. We are not polished up; we are turned inside out. That which we loved we come to hate, and that which we hated we come to love. now favors the company that feeds his nature, but when the Lord lays hold of him, he will recoil from what once attracted him. A time shall come, pray towards it with fixed gaze, when he will say of this allegiance, “What have I to do anymore with idols?” That word must be his own spontaneous cry, birthed not by your pressure but by the Spirit’s conviction. Cease striving to engineer circumstances and bend every energy to plead for this inward revolution. The boy’s rudeness and defiance are the surface symptoms of a heart needing a new master.

Your forgiveness of his father stands clear as a settled matter, and that you have not allowed bitterness to fester is proof of grace already at work in you. Yet forgive does not mean approve, nor does it demand that you call evil good. The rupture in the family that keeps other siblings from that man is not evidence of your wrong judgment but of their own discernment, which you must not override with false sentiment. Stand firm in what you know to be true about that influence, but stand low before God in prayer, confessing that neither your wisdom nor your warnings can open ’s eyes. Only the Lord who said “Let light shine out of darkness” can shine into his heart. The change you seek for him is not a matter of better arguments or stricter boundaries, it is a resurrection from spiritual death, and resurrection is God’s work alone.

This life is a canvas where everything must change, and we who are most wearied by that fact learn to anchor our hope in the One who changes not. ’s character, his father’s hold, your own weariness, all these are shifting shadows, but Christ remains the same, and His arm is not shortened. Do not measure the possibility of ’s conversion by the strength of his present rebellion. The same grace that reversed the course of the Corinthians, who were fornicators, idolaters, and revilers, can wash, sanctify, and justify your grandson in the name of the Lord Jesus. Their past did not bar them from the kingdom, and his present stubbornness cannot outlast sovereign mercy if the Lord purposes to save him.

Press on then in prayer with a holy boldness, but let your specific petition now shift towards this: that might be kept from the evil of adopting the father’s heart even while he cannot avoid the father’s presence. Ask that his very exposure to what is false would breed in him such eventual disgust that he flees to the opposite shore. Do not demand the removal of the trial; plead the sanctification of the trial. God often leaves thorns in the flesh that grace might be perfected in weakness. The day may dawn when this very affliction becomes the furnace in which ’s dross is consumed and pure gold emerges.

Until that hour, you must be the steady testimony in his life, the lips that speak of Christ without nagging, the hands that serve him without pandering to his sin, the eyes that look upon him with hope because you see him not as he is but as grace can make him. Your own constancy under this sorrow is itself a sermon he cannot escape. Do not grow weary or descend into despair when you see no immediate change. The seed buried in winter soil does not mock the sower; it waits its appointed time. The Lord who began a work in your heart that could forgive the unforgivable can complete a far greater work in a wayward boy who still draws breath under your prayers.

The soul of your grandson is caught in a storm stirred up by the one who was a father of lies from the beginning. When the devil speaks, he cloaks darkness as light, and so a son sees his father’s ways and mistakes poison for nourishment. It is no small thing that his siblings discern the truth and keep their distance; they have chosen the better part. Yet your grandson, being most like his father in temperament, is pulled as by a hidden chain. Do not wonder that the father favors him and ignores the rest; this is the way of one who abides not in the truth, for he embraces only what mirrors his own ruin.

You have done well to forgive the father long ago. Forgiveness is the gate of heaven, but it does not command us to offer our children as prey to wolves. David, that righteous man, when Jonathan was taken away, did not forget the kindness of his friend. He sought out Jonathan’s son and grandson, rescuing them from danger and sustaining them as his own. But you see, the case before you is not a friend’s orphaned child but a living man who still breathes out rebellion and draws his son after him. David’s care was for the innocent offspring of a faithful man; your care must be for a lamb that walks willingly toward a precipice because it hears a familiar voice.

You are not wrong to see that what Christ once removed from his life should not have been brought back. When our Lord healed the blind men, He did not do it amid the clamor of the crowd but led them quietly into the house, away from the noise that feeds vainglory. So too, the healing of your grandson’s eyes may need a quiet place, apart from that destructive presence. Pray fervently that his inner sight be restored, that he may recognize the darkness for what it is. In former times, if anyone withdrew from theaters and went to the church, the lame foot was cured; if one turned from satanic songs to spiritual psalms, the dumb tongue spoke. So it is now: if your grandson would draw back his affections from the lie, his withered heart could be stretched forth whole.

Yet remember that no soul is snatched from the deceiver’s hand without a struggle. The father whispers what seems sweet, and youth is easily intoxicated by the promise of acceptance. Drunkenness of the soul makes days like night, so that one cannot see even what lies at hand. Your grandson, though his bodily eyes are open, beholds not the cliff before him. Therefore, do not grow weary in prayer. Bring him constantly before the judgment seat of Christ in your intercessions, where there is no need of witnesses, for all things are naked and opened to His eyes. He knows the manipulations, the hidden words, the bent of heart. Plead with Him who alone can change a man or block his path.

If you ask whether you ought to act, consider this: our Lord Himself, warned in a dream, withdrew into Galilee for safety when danger pressed. Prudence that guards the soul is no sin. You may not be able to command a grown grandson, but you can speak truth with love and set boundaries that refuse to bless his participation in evil. Do not despair if the change tarries. The Lord who opened blind eyes at the right moment, after they followed Him crying out, will attend to your cry. Only be steadfast. Self-examination is good, you ask humbly if you are wrong. I see no error in your discernment; only keep your own heart free from bitterness, for the root of bitterness defiles many. Love the father as a soul for whom Christ died, even while you shield the son from his contagion. And trust that the One who made His Father our Father will, in His time, either turn the heart or break the snare.

There is a natural tendency to blame God when someone we love walks away into darkness. It feels as though He could simply reach down and stop it, yet the days pass and the hurt deepens. But the world is not yet fully redeemed; it is tangled in a battle that began with our first parents forfeiting authority to the enemy. That is why Jesus taught us to pray that God’s will would be done on earth as it is in heaven. God is not the author of the manipulation or the rebellion you see. Satan blinds the minds of those who do not believe, and he often uses broken human relationships to reinforce that blindness. Your grandson’s eyes have been covered by a deceptive affection that looks like love but pulls him away from life.

Your forgiveness toward his father is right and Christlike. But forgiveness does not always mean you must let the influence continue unchecked. You are not wrong to want his eyes opened. The tragedy is not that you lack love; it is that he cannot yet perceive the poison his father’s favor pours into him. That blindness requires a spiritual remedy. Prayer is the weapon that can drive the enemy from territory he has usurped. When we pray, we partner with the Spirit to push back darkness and open eyes that have been held captive. So do not stop crying out. The Father’s ear is always open to the children’s cry, and if you have come to Him through Jesus Christ, you have that relationship. The most effective prayer is not simply asking the Lord to remove the man from their lives; it is asking Him to shatter the lie that has gripped your grandson’s heart, and to bring him to the truth.

Jesus often used stories not to hide truth but to slip it past our defenses when we could not take it straight. Your grandson’s heart has grown dull, yet the Holy Spirit knows how to break through. Let that be your focus. Bind the power of the deceiver in prayer, and ask God to do whatever is necessary to turn your grandson’s feet back to the path he once knew. The purpose of prayer is to accomplish God’s will, not merely to get ours done. Sometimes that means a removal, sometimes a transformation in the very person we fear. Be open to what God wants to do, even if it stretches beyond the solution you imagine. Fear not the answers God may bring; fear only that you might close yourself off to His deeper work.

And while you pray for him, ask the Lord to keep your own eyes open. Prejudice and pain can make us long for solutions that feel right to us but may not be the whole counsel of God. Let His Word and His Spirit guide you, giving you understanding beyond what raw emotion can reach. Use the restless nights and the anxious mornings as places of meditation, offering the new day to the Lord and watching for the light to dawn. The Spirit will remind you of the exact things that need prayer when you stay tender before Him. Even now, God has not abandoned your grandson. Bring that situation before the throne with faith that the entrance of His word gives light to the simple and that, through persevering prayer, the truth will yet break in and set him free.
