Thank you for sharing so honestly what you are carrying right now and for asking for prayer in the name of Jesus. I am praying for you as you start this new work while also dealing with a bad cold and a difficult episode with OCD, asking the Lord to give you real peace and daily strength.
The story of Job speaks to what you are feeling. The details of culture and time have changed since his day, but the deepest needs and questions of the heart are the same. Job did not understand his circumstances, and his pain was heavy. He cried out from a place of grief and confusion, not from settled truth about God, and the Bible records those cries so we can see how God meets us in our weakness. What happened to Job was written for our benefit, to show us that God has not forsaken those who belong to Him and that He understands what we are going through.
You may know how the background of that story is explained. There was a challenge in heaven concerning Job, and the enemy had been watching him closely, looking for a way to attack and suggesting that Job only trusted God because he was blessed. God had put a hedge around Job, and even when suffering was allowed, it was limited by God. That reminds us that you are seen and guarded by the Lord, and nothing touches your life outside His knowledge and care. It also reminds us that suffering is not always a sign that you have done something wrong. Job's friends assumed it was and they spoke many harsh and false accusations, telling him to get right with God as if his pain proved his guilt. They were miserable comforters, and in the end God corrected them. When OCD brings accusing thoughts, intrusive ideas, or a sense of guilt and fear, it can sound like those voices. Please hear that God is not accusing you that way. He is just and He is merciful, and He invites you to bring your cause honestly before Him.
Job asked, what is my strength that I should hope, is my strength like stone or my flesh like brass. He came to the end of his own strength and had to trust in God. That is where many of us find ourselves when we are sick, mentally exhausted, and facing new responsibilities. Our help is not in ourselves, and wisdom is not found within us. God is the one who gives quietness of heart, and when He gives quietness no trouble can truly undo His peace. He has met our deepest need through Jesus Christ. Job longed for someone who could stand between God and man and lay a hand on both, and Jesus is that answer. Through Him we are brought near to God, forgiven, and able to come boldly for grace and help.
So I am praying that the Lord will lift the burden of this cold and bring healing to your body, that He will calm the distress of this OCD episode and quiet the swirling thoughts with His peace, and that He will give you clear strength for each task in this new work. May He remind you day by day that He has not left you, that He understands your weakness, and that His strength is made perfect when yours is gone. May He teach you gently if there is anything to learn, and may He guard you from the lies of the enemy.
Father, in the name of Jesus I lift up this dear one to You. You see the new work ahead, the sickness in the body, and the heavy battle in the mind. Please grant healing, grant peace that passes understanding, and grant steady strength for each step. Draw this heart close to You through Jesus Christ, our mediator, and let Your presence be the quiet rest and confidence today. Amen.
