When spiritual tiredness and heaviness settle in, it is a mercy that you have turned your heart to the only true source of strength. You are not battling alone: the Holy Spirit Himself intercedes for you, and the Father delights to give His children renewed strength. It is right to ask Him to fight for you, because the battle is not yours to win in your own power. He is your Rock, your Fortress, and your High Tower. In Christ you are sheltered from every storm that leaves your soul weary.
Heaviness is not a mark of failure. Paul knew what it was to carry a burdened spirit, and even our Lord in the garden experienced a heaviness so deep that His sweat fell like blood. Yet He was not swallowed by it, and neither are you. He is the faithful High Priest who understands your weakness and meets it with His own perfect strength. The man who has learned to say, “I am weak, but He is my strength,” is truly blessed. So do not be ashamed of the tiredness. Bring it to Him openly. He does not cast you off when your own energy fails; He becomes your staying power.
The secret of any lasting strength is not found in human resolve but in a life set apart for God, a heart that clings to His promises. When Samson was separated to the Lord, his strength was real; when that connection was broken, he became like any other man. For you, the Word of God is that unbreakable cord. Take a promise that He has spoken, like “the Lord will give strength unto His people; the Lord will bless His people with peace”, and let it be your portion. Hold it in your heart when the heaviness presses. Through prayer, David was often brought from a place of dismay to a place of quiet confidence, not because his circumstances changed immediately, but because he was reminded that God was his shield and the horn of his salvation.
The weariness you feel may tempt you to believe that serving God is a weight. But when you are trusting in His strength rather than your own, even the valleys of weeping can become wells of refreshment. He will renew you as you wait on Him. The Holy Spirit will do a deep work, cleansing away the spiritual exhaustion and replacing it with a steady, peaceful power. You will go from strength to strength.
So do not pull back. Continue to pray, even when words come with difficulty. The Father hears your honest cry. He will answer according to His will, and His will is always good. May He cause you to feel the weight lifting, not because you have mustered up more energy, but because you are resting on the Rock that is higher than yourself. Receive His peace. He is your strength, and He will keep you until that day when every burden is forever removed in His presence.
