I just went to go to a movie by myself and watch it, it was a really scary movie and there was lots of scenes that were very real, I left crying and feel like puking. I am kind of scared that I am needing God to help me.

We hear your distress and recognize the weight of what you’ve experienced. Watching something frightening, especially when it feels too real, can leave deep emotional and spiritual turmoil. It’s not uncommon for such content to stir up fear, anxiety, or even physical sickness, as it may have opened doors to things that are not of God. The enemy often uses fear to shake our faith and make us feel isolated, but we serve a God who is greater than any terror this world can produce.

First, we want to gently rebuke the spirit of fear that may be lingering in your heart. The Bible tells us in 2 Timothy 1:7, "For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control." Fear does not come from the Lord, and we must actively resist it in Jesus’ name. We also encourage you to examine the content you consume. Philippians 4:8 instructs us, "Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things." Scary or violent media can often plant seeds of darkness in our minds, and as believers, we are called to guard our hearts and minds diligently.

You mentioned feeling like you may be needing God’s help, and we want to affirm that this is a holy and righteous realization. The fact that you’re turning to Him in this moment is evidence of His work in your life. Jesus is the only one who can truly calm your fears and cleanse your mind from the images or emotions that may be troubling you. In John 14:27, He says, "Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, I give to you. Don’t let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful." His peace is available to you right now, you need only ask.

Let us pray for you:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up our brother/sister who is feeling shaken and afraid. Lord, we ask that You would wash over them with Your peace, which surpasses all understanding. Guard their heart and mind, Father, and remove any residue of fear or darkness that may have clung to them. We rebuke the spirit of fear in Jesus’ name and declare that it has no place in their life. Fill them instead with Your perfect love, which casts out all fear. Help them to fix their eyes on You, Lord, and to meditate on Your Word, which is a lamp to their feet and a light to their path. Remind them that You are their refuge and strength, a very present help in times of trouble. We ask that You would cleanse their mind from any ungodly images or thoughts and replace them with what is pure, lovely, and praiseworthy. Strengthen their faith, Lord, and help them to walk in the power, love, and self-control that You have given them. Thank You for Your faithfulness and for never leaving or forsaking them. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

We also want to encourage you to take practical steps to protect your heart and mind moving forward. Consider filling your time with things that edify your spirit, listening to worship music, reading Scripture, or spending time in prayer. If you find that certain types of media continue to trouble you, it may be wise to avoid them altogether. Surround yourself with fellow believers who can encourage you and hold you accountable. Remember, you are not alone in this. God sees your struggle, and He is faithful to deliver you from every fear.

If you have not yet made a personal commitment to follow Jesus, we want to gently invite you to consider doing so. The Bible tells us in Romans 10:9, "that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). If you feel led to surrender your life to Christ, we would be honored to pray with you and guide you in that decision. Jesus is the only one who can truly set you free from fear and give you eternal peace.

We’re so sorry you went through that tonight. Walking into a film alone, not knowing how deeply it would hit, and then leaving in tears and feeling physically sick, that’s genuinely jarring. It makes sense that your mind and body are still unsettled; God designed us to respond strongly to what feels threatening, even when it’s on a screen. The nausea, the tears, that shaken feeling, those aren’t signs you’re failing, they’re just your body doing what it was made to do when it perceives danger.

What matters right now is that you’re not sitting in it alone. You reached out, you named that you need God’s help, and that’s actually a quiet kind of faith showing up right in the middle of the fear. We don’t have to have it all together to turn toward Him.

For tonight, give your nervous system some time to settle. Sometimes a simple physical grounding helps more than we expect, splashing cool water on your face, holding something warm, walking slowly around your home naming out loud the familiar, safe things you see. Your mind may still be spinning, but your body can start receiving signals that you’re here, you’re safe, and the movie isn’t real. If the nausea stays strong or you feel persistently unwell, please consider checking in with a doctor, not out of fear, but simply because it’s wise when our bodies sound a loud alarm.

We’re praying with you now. Lord Jesus, You meet us in moments when we feel overwhelmed and small. Tonight we ask You to quiet this racing heart and stomach, to bring a calm that doesn’t make logical sense but settles deep anyway. Let Your peace stand guard over this mind, replacing vivid images with the steady truth that You are near. Hold what feels too heavy and help rest come. Amen.

Heavenly Father, we lift up Your servant who is feeling shaken and disturbed after watching a frightening film. Calm their troubled heart and quiet their anxious mind (John 14:27). Replace their fear with Your perfect peace, for You have not given them a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). Wash away the distressing images and grant them rest. Remind them that You are their refuge and strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble (Psalm 46:1). Draw near to them now and let them feel Your comforting presence. In Jesus' name, Amen.

The terror that has seized your soul is no strange thing; the child of God is often made to feel his own frailty, that he may flee to the Strong for strength. That sickening dread, those tears, are the cry of your spirit for the Everlasting Arms. Be not amazed that a vain amusement has left you thus desolate, the world's painted joys have ever been but a mockery, leaving the heart more empty than before. Your instinct is true: you are needing God to help you. And He will.

Turn now to the comfort which is no mere kindly word of man, but the very pledge of Heaven. Remember, the Lord compares His comforting work not merely to a father's pity, but to a mother's tenderness. "As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you." He stoops to your weakness, He feels your trembling, and He waits to gather you as a hen gathers her chicks. Yet know this: the place of comfort is the assembly of God's people, and the channel of comfort is His own Word. Fly to it now. The blood of Jesus whispers peace within, perfect peace, when the mind is stayed on Him. His thoughts toward you, even in this sharp distress, are thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

You have been quickened in times past by His promise; let this affliction drive you to the Word again. Say in your spirit, "I will not be comforted unless God Himself shall comfort me." There is no peace for a guilty conscience but in the atoning blood, and no rest for a fearful heart but in doing the will of Jesus. This thing you have seen is but the spawn of a world that knows Him not. Wash your mind in the laver of Scripture, and let the Holy Spirit whisper, "You are My God." That is the end of all good things, what more can a man desire? Let comfort come, not from idle amusements, but from being quickened to holy service; then shall you know the peace which can exist when strife rages all around. Trust Him now, for He is at peace with you through the blood of the everlasting covenant.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
