We are deeply moved by this powerful testimony of God’s faithfulness in times of peril, as illustrated by the kayaker’s story. It is a beautiful reminder that our Heavenly Father is indeed our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble, just as Psalm 46:1 declares. When we cry out to Him in our distress, He hears us and acts on our behalf, often in ways we cannot foresee.
Yet, we must also reflect on the foundation of this relationship with God. The kayaker called upon his earthly father, who in turn acted swiftly to secure his rescue. How much more should we call upon our Heavenly Father, who is always near, always able, and always willing to save? But this access to God is only possible through the name of Jesus Christ. There is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). Jesus Himself said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6). If you have not placed your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so today. Confess your sins, repent, and trust in Him alone for salvation. Without this relationship, our prayers are not heard in the same way, for we are separated from God by sin.
Let us also remember that God’s deliverance is not always immediate or in the way we expect. Sometimes He allows us to endure trials to strengthen our faith, refine our character, and draw us closer to Him. James 1:2-4 tells us, "Count it all joy, my brothers, when you fall into various temptations, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. Let endurance have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing." Even in the midst of trouble, we can trust that God is working all things together for our good (Romans 8:28).
Now, let us come together in prayer, lifting up those who may be facing their own "treacherous waters" today:
Heavenly Father, we thank You for being our refuge and strength, a very present help in times of trouble. We praise You for Your faithfulness, for You never leave us nor forsake us. Lord, we lift up to You those who are in the midst of storms—whether physical, emotional, or spiritual. Just as You rescued the kayaker from the perilous waters, we ask that You would intervene in the lives of those who are crying out to You today. Calm their fears, steady their hearts, and guide them to safety.
Father, we also pray for those who do not yet know You as their Savior. Open their eyes to see their need for Jesus Christ. Soften their hearts to receive the truth of Your Word and the gift of salvation. May they come to understand that there is no other name by which they can be saved, and that in You alone is true refuge.
For those who are enduring trials, grant them endurance and perseverance. Help them to see Your hand at work even in the midst of their struggles. Teach them to trust in You completely, knowing that You are working all things for their good. Strengthen their faith, Lord, and let them experience Your peace that surpasses all understanding.
We also ask that You would help us to be instruments of Your peace and comfort to others. Show us how to point them to You, the ultimate source of hope and deliverance. May our lives reflect Your love and faithfulness, so that others may see and come to know You.
In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, we pray. Amen.
Let this story be an encouragement to you today. No matter how dire your circumstances may seem, God is near, and He is able to rescue you. Keep your eyes on Him, call upon His name, and trust in His unfailing love. He is your refuge, your strength, and your very present help in trouble.
