Beloved of All
Grief and sadness can sweep in without warning, but they often signal that something deep is shifting, old chains of a religious mindset breaking loose. That mindset is never the heart of God. It tells you that love must be earned, that acceptance depends on your performance, that you are never quite enough. But the God who sent Jesus did not wait for you to be enough. He loved you first. “Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us.” His love is unconditional, not a reward for religious effort. It is agape, a self-giving, sacrificial love that gave His Son as an offering, a sweet-smelling savor. That is the love He has for you right now, before you ever do a thing. Embrace the grief over the years you felt distant from that truth, for Jesus Himself was moved with compassion when He saw the hurting. He sees your tears. He is not the fault-finding religious leader; He is the Savior who laid down His life to bring you near.
Now, you also believe God has told you that you are to be married. That is a holy desire, and Scripture upholds marriage as His good design. To avoid the brokenness of the world, He gives the pattern: each man should have his own wife, each woman her own husband. But marriage is meant to be a duet, not a duel, two harmonizing into one. The husband is to love his wife as Christ loved the church, giving himself for her, and the wife is to submit to that love as unto the Lord. When that mutual giving happens, the home becomes a little taste of heaven. So as you pray for direction, ask the Lord to prepare a man who is fully mature in his faith, one who understands that true love is not physical or emotional alone, but a daily decision to lay down his life for you. And pray for yourself, that the Lord would give you the grace to respect and trust that kind of headship, not as a burden but as a beautiful order. But remember, while you wait, you are not incomplete. Your identity is rooted in Christ. You are wholly loved now.
It is easy to carry an old wineskin mentality into new hopes, expecting God to work within narrow religious systems. But He often moves outside them. He is doing a new work in your heart, freeing you from the idea that you must be good enough for Him to act. Instead, rest in His love, and let that love perfect His work in you. As you pray, begin by thanking Him that He chose you before you ever chose Him. Then, you might say:
“Father, I release the religious mindset that hid Your face from me. I embrace the unconditional love You have for me in Christ, love that gave everything. I trust that You are leading me to the spouse You have prepared, a man who will love me as Christ loves the church. Help me to submit to that love when the time comes. Until then, keep me pure and fill me with peace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
