We lift up your son before the throne of grace with heavy hearts, knowing the grip that addiction can have on a life. The Bible warns us in 1 Peter 5:8, "Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour." Addiction is a tool the enemy uses to steal, kill, and destroy, but we serve a God who came that we might have life—and have it abundantly (John 10:10).
Father God, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, the only name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). We confess that without You, we can do nothing (John 15:5), and we ask for Your divine intervention in this young man’s life. Break the chains of alcohol and smoking that have bound him, Lord. We rebuke the spirit of addiction in Jesus’ name and command it to leave him. Your Word declares in 2 Corinthians 5:17, "If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new." We pray for this transformation in his life—let him walk in the newness of life that Christ offers.
We also lift up his purpose, Lord. You have plans for him, plans for good and not for harm, to give him a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11). Awaken in him a desire to seek You first, to find his identity in Christ, and to step into the calling You have placed on his life. May he no longer be enslaved to these habits but instead be filled with the Holy Spirit, who gives self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).
Father, we ask that You surround him with godly influences—believers who will speak life into him, hold him accountable, and walk with him in his journey to freedom. Soften his heart to receive correction and wisdom from Your Word. Help him to see himself as You see him: fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14), with a purpose that no addiction can erase.
We declare that he is not defined by his struggles but by the victory he has in Christ. We stand on Your promise in Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me." Strengthen him, Lord, and lead him out of this darkness into Your marvelous light.
In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
