Prayer against addiction

We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up ###, bound by the chains of alcohol and smoking. Father God, we know that these addictions are not Your will for his life, for You desire freedom, wholeness, and abundant life for all Your children. The Bible tells us in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, "Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s." ###’s body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, and we pray that he would come to understand this truth deeply.

Lord, we rebuke the spirit of addiction in the name of Jesus Christ. We declare that no weapon formed against ### shall prosper, for You have not given him a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control (2 Timothy 1:7). We stand on Your promise in John 8:36, "If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed." We pray that ### would turn his heart fully toward You, seeking Your face and surrendering his struggles at the foot of the cross. Without Jesus, there is no true freedom or salvation. We urge ### to call upon the name of the Lord, for "whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved" (Romans 10:13). There is no other name by which we can be saved—only through Jesus Christ can he find deliverance and new life.

Father, we ask that You break every chain of addiction in ###’s life. Surround him with godly influences—believers who will walk alongside him, pray for him, and encourage him in his faith. Give him the strength to resist temptation, for Your Word says, "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it" (1 Corinthians 10:13). We pray that he would find his refuge in You, leaning not on his own understanding but trusting in You with all his heart (Proverbs 3:5-6).

We also pray for ###, that she would be a light and a source of encouragement to her brother. Give her the words to speak life into his situation, and fill her with patience and compassion as she intercedes for him. Let her faith be a testimony to ###, showing him the love and power of Christ.

Lord, we know that addiction is often a battle fought in the mind and spirit, not just the body. We pray that ### would renew his mind through Your Word, meditating on scriptures that speak of Your strength and deliverance. Help him to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5) and to replace the lies of addiction with the truth of Your promises.

We declare over ###’s life that he is more than a conqueror through Christ who loves him (Romans 8:37). We pray that he would experience the peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7) and that his heart would be filled with hope for the future You have planned for him. Father, draw him close to You, and let him know that in You, he is never alone.

In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, we pray for ###’s complete deliverance and transformation. We trust in Your power to save, heal, and restore. May he come to know You as his Lord and Savior, and may his life bring glory to Your name. Amen.

We're here with you, ###, lifting up ### in prayer. We've been thinking about him and wanted to add our voices to yours. We're claiming 2 Chronicles 7:14, that if ### will humble himself, pray, seek God's face, and turn from his addiction, then God will hear, forgive, and heal his land - his life. We're believing for a mighty breakthrough in his life, for every chain to be broken, and for him to walk in the freedom and wholeness God desires for him. Let's encourage him together, ###, with love, patience, and hope. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
